We have never rented a car while at WDW and would like to know if anyone has ever stayed at the FW Cabins and relied on WDW transportation instead of renting a car? Anyone with insight or advise would be greatly appreciated...Thanks! :flower:

You'd be ok relying on WDW transportation. However, FW Cabins are the ONLY place on WDW property where you can park a car literally right by your front door. If it were me, I'd take advantage of that fact and rent a car. The waits for those buses can get long sometimes.

Necessary - no. However, you need to take a bus to the Marina where a boat takes you to the Magic Kingdom.(same amount of time driving or bus/boat) As for the other parks, you need to take a bus to the Outpost, and then another bus to the parks or Downtown Disney. We really liked driving right up to our cabin, after a long day at the parks. As for the cabins, they are GREAT! You will love the extra space, as well as the maid service - who also runs your dishwasher! Have a great vacation!

A car is a huge advantage for getting to any park except the Magic Kingdom. The resort is huge and has it's own internal bus system (cars are not allowed anywhere but your cabin, the main entry area, and the camp store). So getting anywhere is time consuming. We rented a golf cart for several days (I was 6 months pregnant when we stayed there) and that really helps, but it is very hard for me to pay $45 a day to rent a golf cart!

We rented a car while staying at the cabins. It was useful for running out for groceries, pizza, etc and extreamly useful when we were evacuated from the cabin over to POR. I don't know how we would have managed if we had to wait for Disney transportation to take us from FW over there with all our suitcases plus food.

As for getting around the parks, no a car is not needed at all. Half the charm is utilizing the boat system from the marina over to MK and from there you can catch the monorail to Epcot. The bus system was running smoothly when we were there so no issues with going anywhere else either.

I'm comfortable without a car at most of the resorts, but not if I were at a cabin or in the campground. You may have to take transportation or walk a ways within the campground/cabin area to get to transportation, and then get transportation to the TTC to get to some places.

If you plan to try to get to any of the resorts for dining you'll really want one. If you are doing all your eating in the cabin, you may want one for food/supply runs.

We have stayed at FWC 3X & never had a car for any of the trips. We did it with a small child with health issues on top of it & never had a problem using WDW transpo. We really don't like to be bothered with driving when we are on vacation & waiting a few minutes for a bus was a small compromise to let someone else do the work & worry for us.

Being able to pull of van right up to the front door is one of the perks that makes DH's day.

We drive to WDW from NC so we have our van with us. When staying at other resorts, your vehicle is parked pretty far away in a lot somewhere. At the cabin it is right at your door.

Since we had 2 in strollers we drove to all the parks except MK - took the boat over. It was nice to come back from Typhoon Lagoon in our own van versus riding a bus in our bathing suits.
