Hi. We're looking forward to our upcoming 8 night trip beginning 2/19/05 :Pinkbounc
Except for a cramped stay at the CBR in '99, our family of five (dh, me, dks 9, 6, & 3) usually stays at an off-site suite hotel. With the new "evening magic hours" though, we'll be staying on-site from now on!
Sooo, we currently have ressies at Ft. W Cabins - all other villa type accomodations are price prohibitive. (We did consider one room at the Poly or CR, but we just couldn't see spending an extra 1K and having less room (at least till the kids are a bit older). We are not really outdoorsy people and are starting to get apprehensive about staying at the campground.
Does anyone have any experience or opinions about the cabins? We're also thinking about connecting rms at the Pop.
Any and all opinions are appreciated.
Thanks,

Thanks,

I, too, am apprehensive about the cabins. I don't think it would feel "Disney" enough for me. Also, we (meaning me and the girls!) are not "camping type". So, I booked two rooms at POP. Hoping to get King/2 Dbl connecting rooms. Also, with four daughters, two bathrooms will be a lifesaver!!

I'm definately NOT a camping type but really enjoyed the Cabins. We stayed in May with 2 kids, age 4 and 6. It was great not to worry about the kids making noise. The full size kitchen is great with kids too. However you will only have one bathroom. Also, renting a golf cart to get around makes life much easier but they are expensive. I think you need to decide if a kithcen or 2 bathrooms will benefit you the most and go from there. good Luck!

We are not remotely camping people anymore, although I was when I was younger....
That said, we stayed our first 3 WDW trips in the FW cabins. We loved it. It was so nice to have the extra space, the privacy at night for DH & I to relax togther after our DS went to bed & the kitchen facilities. It is VERY Disney, with tons of activities right on site. What could be more Disney than Chip & Dale leading a Campfire Sing-Along before watching a Disney Movie around a campfire????? You don't get that at any of the other resorts. Also, you can watch the Electric Water Parade & the Fireworks from the Beach - perfect Disney ending for a day....
Taking the launch across Bay Lake & into the Seven Seas Lagoon to Magic Kingdom is Magical.
We are taking my Stepson & his wife & children to WDW for Christmas next year & will be getting 2 FW Cabins again. We found it the best way to do WDW with young ones.
The only thing I wish they would improve on are the pools. It'd be nice if they turned River Country into the theme pools for FW.

We're leaving in a few days and staying in a cabin. Your children are rather young, if you were to get 2 value rooms, who would be in which rooms? You and dh in one, and the children in the other???? Or would you and dh split up and each keep 1-2 children? I haven't stayed in adjoining rooms at Disney, but we did it at a Holiday Inn last year. The rooms are just like regular rooms with just a door between them. It's practically impossible to keep the doors between the rooms propped open. I guess there's a way, but it was rather a hassle. But we had 2 teens in the other room.

Anyway, I would say that maybe with your children's ages, having the kitchen would be better than 2 bathrooms. You could save $100's by just having breakfast in the cabin. Also, you can be a little bit noisier in a cabin. Your children won't have to be really quiet walking around like in a hotel room.

I am definitely NOT a camping/outdoorsy type person. I will post when we get back and let you know how the cabin was.

I am way more of a Ritz-Carlton type of person than a campy type of person and I LOVED the cabins. The setup was absolutley perfect with 3 children! My husband & I slept on the murphy bed in the living room and the 3 children had the bedroom. We woke up early, got showered and dressed and put breakfast on the table, then woke up the kids. We loved the set up and the kids got the extra sleep time they wouldn't have in a hotel room. It was also great at night where we could put the little ones to bed and stay up a bit later without worry of noise.

The full kitchen was great! We would eat breakfast at home, then usuallly other meals out, but plenty of storage for snacks for kids to carry along, no worries about storage of milk gallon jugs. I had my coffee everyday, and the housekeeper cleaned to boot! I worried that it would be more like camping than a hotel but that wasn't the case at all. The housekeeper left plenty of fluffy towels everyday, we still had Mickey Soaps, and the beds were made.

I liked that the kids could be excited and a little loud and rambunctious without worrying about disturbing the neighbors. I also liked how quite and peaceful the surroundings were.....after a day of that much activity, the kids needed the peace and subdued nature.

Another vote for the cabins I loved them when we stayed there, it has a very Disney feel to it much lessed rushed feeling than the hotels with a very friendly staff.

As much as I loved the cabins when we stayed there, I would not stay there if I did not have a car. The transportation was kind of a hassle for me, with the changing of busses and if you walked instead, it was quite a hike. They are quite large (size of a double wide trailer) for a family. Luckily, we had a rental so we were able to drive ourselves to and from the park. The boat to MK was nice but the bus ride home from the TTC after an e-ride night was quite bad. That being said, I would stay at the cabins again. You can save a lot of money on breakfast and get the full freezer to freeze waterbottles and save some money in the park on drinks as well.
