Ft Wilderness Beach?

Local news also stated this morning that they were adding mesh netting to the rope fences. Will post those updated photos if I can come across any.

So... if they're fencing off the water then what's the point of keeping the beaches closed after 9pm?

Thanks for the pictures. It doesn't seem too obtrusive particularly if they continue to allow fireworks viewing from the beach. I feel for Fort Wilderness management because their clientele is very different from those of all other resorts and they have a whole series of additional things to balance that the other managers do not: people walking dogs along canals, people playing near multiple bodies of water (playground, dog park), fishing along canal banks, field games adjacent to canals. It's going to be a challenge to balance the usual uses and activities of a campground with the generic actions mandated to the resorts.

It looks very different, guess I'll see first hand next Monday how different it really looks in person. I agree if the fence is in place what's the need for closing the beach, just hope will be able to watch Fireworks on the 4th and the EWP, we always get a Mickey ice cream and watch the show from the beach at FW, it our tradition,

It hasn't been officially confirmed if they are allowing people to be on the beaches for the Fireworks yet. Some places have reported they've been allowed near the beaches, but not allowed to stand on the sand and other reports are they've been open for certain times with cast supervision - as if a 120lb cast member is going to stop me from being dragged into the water by a 500lb gator :confused3

Whew! I feel much safer now. That 3 rope fence should be able to stop the largest gator. 8-)

Florida native here. Do they not realize alligators have been known to climb six foot chain link fences? Just saying...
And yet there have only been 2 incidents in over 30 years.

Like others, I understand the need for the reaction by Disney, but some of this is just lunacy. (And yes, I realize the rope fence is to keep US away from the gator, not the other way around. Still silly though)

Hate to admit it but I was thinking very much the same thing. Not sure if I heard this info on "SWAMP PEOPLE" or "GATOR BOYS " And I am a New York boy where everyone knows alligators only occupy the sewers

The news isn't helping. We saw a report that claimed an encounter with a gator 60 miles from Disney happened right next door. Have agree with Teamubr any fence that can so easally defeat any 3 year old makes me feel so much safer

So ugly and an absolute waste of time. Like it has been said, the gator can beat it easily and I know any little kid worth his salt can get past it so why even bother putting that up?

So true, and I agree! It certainly spoils the natural, relaxed look of the beach areas.

But, I'm sure it's the work of lawyers and what Disney can be held accountable for. Between fences and signs, I'm sure that there will still be parents allowing their children to climb, ignore, unless there is vigilant patrolling by CMs. Everyone has to pay the price just to keep some people safe from themselves.

Liability. Now that it's happened in the world of the law suit (much different place 30 years ago), if anything similar happens and Disney hadn't done something, the check would have many more zeros on it than it will now. If you decide to ignore the signs or go beyond the rope, you've just accepted some (not all) of the liability. A little big check vs a big, big, big, check.

I view the rope fence like the bag checks at the parks or the TSA at MCO. It's an allusion of safety. Just like the Yeti in EE. :duck:

This! They gotta put forth an effort to protect. Now, if I ignore the rules and get drug into the lake by a 10 foot oversized luggage Disney is off the blame list and my wife and kids can't sue.

Heck, I bet they won't even name a canal after me.

Older video, but iIwonder if anybody told Br'er Rabbit that he couldn't fish along that stream anymore.

I hate to say it or wish it on anyone, but the next news headlines we'll hear from Disney, some kid not being watched their parents falls from "gator fence" and breaks neck, parents holds Disney responsible for not have safety nets under fence or not having CM posted every ten feet along the "gator fence", because after all is Disney's responsibility to watch their children on vacation.

Just my $0.02

And by no means am I referring anything about the family that lost their son at the GF, my heart goes out to them. But we've all seen kids running wild and the parents are not watching them.

Living in Fl all my life, I have actually seen a gator climb over a 4 foot chain link fence, so I have no doubt that this new fence is not to keep gators from getting in, but more to keep people from getting to close to the water. I honestly do not think there is any absolute way to keep gators away from the public unless they drain the lakes! Hopefully after time, this will all subside and people will relax. Sharks attack people much more often, but the beaches are still open with no fences.

The media has created such a hype that Disney has to do something to appease the public. It was so bad a few weeks ago that someone on the cruise forum was worried about gators at Castaway Cay! Crazy.

Hang on! We could mudbog our way to the MK.
