Frustrated

I guess he doesn't have any employees who could be trusted to open the freezer for a week?

I'm sorry, I'd be frustrated too. It's bad enough that he can't go, but to let you think all along that he's going and then pull this "Well of course I can't go" routine, as if you were insane, is that much worse.

Well he has two full time employees and one part time. One of the guys has a wife who is pregnant and due anytime. I even asked her to induce her labor... just joking! well kinda....
and as for the other guy, he has just started and my dad doesn't trust him enough to leave him there by himself just yet.
And my husband is the part timer (he's a full time firefighter) and there is no way I'm letting him miss this trip, no matter how much he doesn't care for it.
I'm sure things will be fine... I'm slowly getting over it. I'm just disappointed that he will be missing the things like family pictures, etc... I wanted to send x-mas cards out with the x-mas decorations up but he just said to insert him on the computer. I hate pictures like that, I can always tell when people do that...

yeah but you can't keep them dead in the back of your truck waiting for your taxidermist to answer his phone, unless you like maggots. Usually right after a hunt they will call on their way back from hunting and tell my dad to make room for their animal. Since it's deer season they bring the whole deer and store it in one of my dad's huge freezers. People will call at 3 am to ask if they can bring in their animal and my dad has never refused to open his shop not matter how late it is!

Glad I continued to read on....I kept trying to tie Thanksgiving and taxidermy, and I kept thinking that people were stuffing their Thanksgiving turkeys somehow  Can you tell I don't keep up with hunting seasons ?

Go have fun and enjoy even if he can't come ! If he is all worried the whole time he is there about losing business then he (and you) won't be having fun anyway. Don't let it spoil your :wizard:

This is so true! I didn't think about it in this way... I can just imagine him being on the phone in the middle of a parade or show...

I think any time you try to plan anything (even a simple dinner) with that many people you end up with a lot of upheavals. Most people are very inconsiderate about last minute requests. I have A SIL like that and I refuse to revolve any plans around her. If she shows up great if not I don't care because I have learned not to plan anyhting for her. :charac2:

I have asked on other boards what their worst trip was like and every single one described their mistake as going with anyone other than small family (husband, wife, kids).

Good luck! I do hope you all have fun. It would be less fun to have your Dad there when his mind is on work anyway.

Well, my dad drops a bomb on me and tells me that I needed to make room for one more because he invited my cousin who is 13....After that i felt bad and called to squeeze him in. Well, last night I called my mom to see if I had left my daughters' cinderella dresses at her house and she informed me that my dad was not going to be able to go because of work! So now I am really upset!

So your Dad knows he won't be going since Hunting season is always a busy time but before he tells you he isn't going he invites along your cousin so that you and your Mom can take him to Disney?

I'd be frustrated too! Hugs all around and have a great time! It will be magical with your girls and very special for your little sister!

I wish this wasn't happening to you! I can relate though..my dad used to do this to our family all the time! Whenever my mom would plan a trip he would be all for it. Then a week or two before it he would start. Bad mood, I'm not going etc. There were 5 of us kids and I was the oldest...I hated trips! Then when I was around 16 we were going to my mom's families homes in Ohio. Normal stuff started. I will never forget the look on my dad's face when my mom put us all in the car and LEFT him at home and never turned back. We had the best time without sourpuss. I will say my dad learned a little lesson because he didn't go so far anymore..and now that he and my mom are retired, well..they are never at home and always traveling..go figure.

So I guess I would say as hard as it is, go have fun and remember the trip with your children! I hope that you have a WONDERFUL time.

I am so sorry this has happened to you! I don't think most people realize how much time and energy is spent planning a trip to Disney. I spend months planning our trips and have to put up with my DH's complaining about the times I make our ADR's. But I've never had someone say they weren't going. I'm sure you'll have a magical time!
