I am so frustrated, I booked our first DVC trip in March as soon as I could and was told that I would get a room around the HH at Old Key West as my 2 DD have Autism and one toe walks and it takes her hours to get anywhere, I was told because I book early it wouldn't be a problem. Sent email yesterday to confirm as I was told to do and received email stating no rooms are available near HH. DD doesn't like buses so I try to avoid them if possible, if I have to take her on one every time we want a drink or anything this will not be a very enjoyable time at all, hard enough to get her on the bus to the parks, picking this resort with the boat to DTD was another reason to stay hear. Sorry for the rant, just. So frustrating!

Who did you book with? I take it you are not an owner because HH is a booking category? I am sorry for your frustration. You can still request a specific area, several are short walks to the HH area. Good luck or maybe you could put LO in a stroller to make the walk for a drink or snack and only use the buses to get to the parks.

So you booked the trip in March for later on this year or you recently booked a trip that takes place in March. OKW has two booking categories, near Hospitality House and not near HH. If you didn't book near HH, then you wouldn't be placed in one of those units (11, 12, 13 and 14 right near HH and 23, 24, 25 and 26 near Peninsular Road).

When you booked, you should have gotten a confirmation email that listed HH if that is what you booked. As mentioned, it is a booking category so you know right away whether you got it.

It is important to always double check things when you book so that if mistakes are made, you can get them corrected as soon as possible. My suggestion is to go on a wait list and keep checking online as things might open up.

Buildings 62, 63 and 64 are not part of the "near Hospitality House" category yet they are physically close to the HH. They are typically reserved for people with a medical need of some sort. (They are the only buildings with elevators so often people with mobility issues attempt to lock-in a room there.)

I would call DVC and see if they can get you into one of those buildings.

As others have said, the near-HH room category has been around for several years now and you're either booked into it or not. I'm not sure why there would have been any ambiguity when making the reservation.

OKW isn't really a resort conducive to mobility issues. As I previously said, only 3 of the 50 or so buildings have elevators. The others were built pre-ADA and are grandfathered from those restrictions. If nothing else, I would highly recommend requesting a first floor room so that you don't have to deal with stairs.

I would also suggest looking into grocery delivery services or something along those lines. No matter where you are at OKW, heading to the Hospitality House for a beverage is going to be very frustrating.

Good luck.

Is OP a renter? If that's the case, they need to have the person whom they're renting from contact DVC about putting a special needs request on the reservation.

Call Member Services (if you're a member, not a renter) and say you have a medical necessity to be as close to HH as possible. I can't tell if you tried to book the HH category or not.

Will you have a car? You do realize you will need to take a bus everywhere but DTD, I'm assuming.

Welcome to Dis -

I was going to ask one of the same questions above - did you rent? If so, the member will have to make the request.

Did you waitlist?

So OP did you rent or are you an owner? If you are an owner you should know HH is a booking request.:goodvibes

Never stayed at OKW so I don't know about specifics there, but a couple things I know about going with someone with special needs. Disney is really good at honoring requests, just explain the situation and say you need a room near whatever it is you want. Also, don't know if you already know this, but when you get to the parks, request a GAC (Guest Assistance Card) and that may help you get through lines faster if that is something that will be hard for your kids.

where are you DISFANX4? Did you get what you wanted? We would all like to know how it turned out.

So sorry have been extremely ill and hadn't been on the comp for quite some months, didn't mean to be a hit and run. As far as our trip went it was great they ended up getting us pretty close . To answer a few of your questions I am an owner but this was my first time after purchase, we did get a GAC which helped a lot. Thank for all your responses

You can make room requests due to medical necessity. MS may be in a better position to fill your need and/or they will turn your request over to the group that deals with medical requests.

I'm glad you had a great trip. You should realize the situation and compromises that a timeshare presents. They are many and magnified when you have special considerations. You need to be willing to accept the negative side of the issues that you can't control and put yourself in the position to control the ones you can. Put another way, assume requests cannot be honored and know that up front. Good luck with planning going forward.
