So i posted yesterday about still being on the waitlist for one night during our stay in August...well talking over with my husband we decided we do not want to have to move resorts (with 4 kids moving is hard..lol) so i called and there is availability at SSR, the only thing is i am 5 freaking points short AHHHHH..lol Geez i just need to get to WDW and have fun!!! :wizard:

You can buy the use of 5 points from MS. I think it's around $15 per point.

oh i didn't realize that..and the CM i spoke with never even mentioned it..lol Thanks!

yeah really..lol
I was also just checking out the rent/trade board and most won't transfer such a small amount..i gues i understand with one transfer per year though :(

Jeez... you'd think they'd be promoting it, wouldn't you?

They are probably not allowed to because it cuts down on addonitis. I have been a member for 10 years and this is the first I have ever heard of renting points from MS.

It's a new program this year.

Well then that is probably why I never heard of it. Since 99 percent of everything they send me is to try and sell me more I don't look through most of the mail they send me (assuming it was mentioned in the mail).

The only requirement is that you are booking at 7 months or less and you can only use the points no more than once a use year and you are limited to 24 points. Good luck on getting the reservation you want.

Here's what is says in full on the MS website:

One-Time-Use Vacation Points
See the details on how you can purchase a minimal number of additional vacation points to use towards your stay of choice.
As a Disney Vacation Club Member, occasionally you may find yourself in need of just few extra vacation points in order to book that perfect dream vacation. Previously, this required borrowing vacation points from a future use year, but very recently a new alternative was introduced. They're called "one-time-use" vacation points and are available for a fee of $15 ($13.33 plus $1.67 tax) per vacation point. Availability of one-time-use vacation points may be limited or suspended from time to time, and the fee is subject to change.
Details:
One-time-use vacation points are vacation points available for Disney Vacation Club Members to use as an alternative to borrowing vacation points from the following use year's allotment.
You can obtain a maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points once per use year per membership.
A maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points are processed in a single transaction, not multiple transactions.
The fee for one-time-use vacation points is $15 (including tax) per vacation point, and is subject to change.
One-time-use vacation points expire according to the use year of the reservation booked and are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be banked or borrowed.
One-time-use vacation points are not available for waitlist reservations.
One-time-use vacation points cannot be applied retroactively to existing reservations.
One-time-use vacation points are only available for Members whose contract is closed and in good standing.
One-time-use vacation points are available only for Disney Vacation Club resorts, Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection and World Passport Collection reservations.
One-time-use vacation points used for Disney Vacation Club resort reservations can only be used up to 7 months prior to arrival.
One-time-use vacation points for Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection and World Passport reservations can be used according to the booking guidelines for each individual collection.

Yes, it is cheaper to rent from someone other than DVC, but oh so much easier! Give 'em a call and have a great trip!:thumbsup2

Have you booked SSR? Or are you hoping for the waitlist? Here's hoping you get what you need, so you don't have to move!:wizard:

I was 4 points short for my December stay at OKW, so I paid the $60 to get the 4 points so i could get a 4th night I wanted. i think it was worth it, a night at Pop would have been $80-$100 anyways.

24 is so low it makes the program of no real use to us but I am sure it will help many others.

One theory about why they limit it to 24 points is that the minimum add-on amount is 25 points so they don't want to tread on the add-on business. I guess they figure if someone is consistently in need of more than 24 points it makes more sense long-term for them to do a 25 point add-on.

You could say the same thing about 50 points though. If you were renting 50 points every year for a couple of years you would be silly not to consider a 50 point add-on.

The time I would most likely need it is if I wanted to increase the size of the party I am taking and needed to upgrade a room. 24 points isn't going to do much.

Yes, but this is designed to fill the needs of those who are falling short by just a few points. They know a rental market exists and they also know most members aren't going to rent out only a handful of points at a time. They are able to provide it as an added service and charge a premium over current rental rates.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are tracking member usage of this and will use it to promote small add-ons down the road. Its much easier for the marketing folks to promote the need for a small 25 point add-on than it is to convince you to do a 50 point or higher add-on if all you really need is a handful of points each time.

I am sure you are right but I don't understand why they would not want to compete a little more with that rental market. They cost more anyway but you get to have complete control over the points you are renting so that would make some people desire them even at a higher price point.

I absolutely agree that for some people those 24 points will make a big difference in getting the trip they want but we have never personally been in the position where that few would have helped. We have had scenarios where a 100ish would have helped but not 24.

Well i booked a 2 BDRM dedicated at SSR and am very happy and we did get our 5 points that we needed through MS..it was very fast and easy!!! We'll be in SSR 8-22/28!
