We toured in Sept 2008 got all of our DVC info and opted to wait a bit to purchase. We decided to purchase in early spring and contacted our guide. She called us back prompted explained the process and we go the ball rolling. We got a good deal and had a referral and got a referral discount on top of incentives going on. I gave our guide the info on my referral and she said she would take care of it. My referral still has not recieved her gift card. I have called my guide several time inquiring and she had not called me back. I am started to get annoyed. I am also waiting for a gift card for myself because I was used as a referral and I still have received nothing.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

TIA

Christa

Look on the DVC website and see what the status of either of your referrals is (it's under Sharing the Magic, I think it's called).

Maybe the letter got lost in the mail or something, but you can check the website and redeem referrals there.

You don't need your guide - I would just call Member Services if the website doesn't show your referral. I don't think the guides have anything to do it with it at this point.

Thanks Vicki. I appreciate it. I will check there now. I feel bad hounding my guide, but all she had to do is pick up the phone and tell me that. Geez, I have been wasting my time call the wrong person.

Thanks again.

I am not sure how long it typically takes but my friend got her referral card in mid July and we closed in early June. :goodvibes

I remember seeing somewhere when we bought out points in 06 with a referal that some states do not allow payments for a referal, that might be the case.

Good luck - I hope you get your $$ and your friend too! We have had 2 referrals and enjoyed a credit against our maintenance fees and a nice gift card that paid for an Illuminations cruise!

(And the PP is correct - some states do not allow members to get anything for referrals - I know Texas is one, but don't know what the others are).

I checked that and MA is an eligable state. I will be calling tomorrow morning. I was on the DVC member site and found nothing about a referral credit at all.

Unfortunately the referral reward process is far from flawless. I've heard of computer glitches occasionally causing problems. But given the non-responsiveness of your Guide, there could be another issue at work here.

When a referral is used there is a potential for the sale to be shared between two Guides. Let's assume that you are already dealing with Guide "A". Your friend, who served as the referral, is assigned to Guide "B". If the referral is properly recorded before the sale, both Guide "A" and Guide "B" would have to share credit for your purchase.

Without the referral being recorded, Guide "A" would get full credit for the sale.
For this reason, some Guides do not always enter the referral simply because they don't want to share credit for the sale. I hate to jump to conclusions but based upon your Guide's non-responsiveness, this may be what happened.

I would recommend sending an email to the member satisfaction folks. They will probably refer you to a specific individual who handles the rewards, but at least you will then have a contact to start getting some answers.

It takes a looooong time to get your gift card (if that's the reward you choose)...and "fair warning": READ the "gunk" that comes w/it...you have to call, from your home phone, to activate it...I didn't read all the accompanying "garbage" (there's a lot of it) when I got mine and as a result my gift card didn't work...a Disney CM called the bank (they use Chase) and got it cleared for a check-in charge that was $10 less than the gift card amount...but when I tried to use the remaining $10, the card again didn't work...

Ultimately, it was my fault for not reading/following directions...but since I basically never read all that gobbledygook that comes w/gift cards/credit cards, I learned my lesson!

Anyway--back to the point: I referred a friend in the spring, and didn't get my referral gift card til late fall (maybe 2-3 weeks before T-giving)...first they wait for closing (which takes a while--a month or more as I recall) and then they send you something w/which you choose the reward you want (dues payments, gift card, and I think there was one other but I forget)...then there's time needed to process the reward card...as I recall, it took at least four months and it might have been five...

I also called my guide after waiting what seemed to me to be a long time...he told me it takes time...after the person you referred actually closes, DVC will send you what looks like advertising material in which it explains your reward choices and then you have to choose and then send your choice in...that didn't happen til after I'd talked to my guide, so I'm going to guess about 2-3 months after the referral...

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. That is definately good to know. I never read stuff like that.
