Trying to get a studio the week of Feb 10/16 and none open. if you go to disneylcom there are plenty. why would they not let the vacation people use there points instead of letting the rooms sit empty. we are willing to go and spend money. has anyone heard of them (cr0)releasing them back to dvc five days before to get them booked?

This cash inventory is largely created by people using their points to book outside of the DVC properties, (concierge, etc.). Disney has to pay these outside resorts cash for these reservations. Disney then has to turn the points used back into cash to recover the cash spent. Some people feel that rooms are sometimes returned to DVC inventory under 30 days, but I don't know how that works or even if it really happens.

Kind of a simplistic response, but hope that makes sense.

This is a common question. The answer is that logistically the rooms were booked by a DVC member on points, then traded out to something that requires DVC to pay cash (any trade outside of DVC, except for Interval International). Those rooms are turned over to cash reservations to recoup the cost of the trade, and can not be recalled by DVC for booking again on points, as it would, in theory, be double booking the same room on points.
