I placed an ad on the TUG site for a week at an Orlando resort I cannot use. I've had a couple potential renters, but I'm at the point were I'm ready to rearrange my schedule and go myself! I have offered to send one renter a copy of my confirmation and the email I received from the resort detailing the transfer policy, but she wants to do a three way call with me and the seller to make sure of the transfer policy. I will not be doing this again. I had such a smooth transaction when I rented DVC points (now I'm an owner). How do you all handle potential renters who seem to be asking a bit too much?

Tell them you will be renting your points to someone else....Did you try to rent them here...I know that persons that rent from this board typically have the same expectations as the owner..

Tell him/her NO. The person may change his/her mind when you tell them that magic word. Like you said, if it doesn't work out, re-arrange your schedule and go yourself but at least have the satisfaction of saying NO first.

I understand your frustration. However, I check the TUG board regularly for the rentals to see if there is anything that we might be interested on the East Coast. However, I am not sure if I ever will rent from someone on that Board because somehow I just don't know if I can trust the person who is renting, also I am not familiar with other timeshare's transfer policy and I am afraid of being taken.

While on DisBoard, either I rent out my points or I rent from someone, I have certain comfort in the person for whatever reason, also, I am more familiar with DVC policy, and I can call MS directly to verify things.

So I would think that if I ever rent from someone on TUG, I may be a real pain to someone too.

I have to say that I LOVE interacting with many people whom I have dealt with on the Rent/Trade Board, whether there was any rental transaction or not. I got a beautiful letter today from someone that I thought was really nicely done. Most of the Disney addicts I believe are fairly decent people, which is where my comfort lies.

It sounds like you're trying to rent out something you got from someone else and do not own. If this is the case, the potential renter should be able to talk to the actual owner but not unless all other terms are settled. They will need a confirmation in their name on way or the other.

If by chance this week were obtained by exchange from II or RCI you may not be able to re rent the week.

I won the week on SkyAuction.com and this particular week is transferable; many are not. I have an email and the original confirmation detailing the transfer policy ($50.00 fee).

If the week is owned by the person you rented it from and they are are willing, you should be ok. No reason to deny the person you're trying to rent from talking to the owner once you're otherwise set. A 3 way call is reasonable. If this were an exchange the other person was renting to you, you may be out of luck.

Dean makes a great point. If you are not the owner, I think it's reasonable for the renter to want things confirmed with the owner.

It is not unreasonalbe for buyers to be cautious before sending money. I had a friend who recently purchased some exercise equipment from e-bay. You would think e-bay has some protections built in, he sent the seller a western union payment and a driver's license was required to pick the payment up. Even then, no equipment and the person with the driver's license who picked up the money is no where to be found. He's out $$$ and the police aren't offerring much hope of recovery. Buyers have legitimate reason's to be cautious, especially if you aren't the true owner. So, the renter doesn't seem to be asking too much from someone who's trying to sell a contest winning. If the two of you can't work it out, you can continue to try to sell your contest winning to another renter.

Good luck, hope it works out.
