Frustrated AP re: codes

There is a big difference between "gee guys, I'm bummed there are no AP rates for my dates" and "OMG! DISNEY is SOOOO UNFAIR!" and people who (more so than the original poster, who only said "it's so unfair") seem to think they are somehow entitled to something that Disney does not promise.

As I said above, "Inconvenient for me because I chose to gamble that a rate would be released or not" is not the same as "it's not fair". Disney did not choose your vacation dates, Disney has no obligation to offer discounts every month of the year. That's why it's a discount.

I'm sorry if my original post offended anyone, but I just stated the facts of the matter. We live in a culture that seems rapt by entitlement, and people get all bent out of shape when they gamble and loose, like they were entitled to the "win". Disney has NEVER said "look at old rates and see what the new ones will be", in fact, as someone posted above (the exact wording from the AP sleeve) that the discounts are limited by both time and availability (i.e. only so many rooms at a time).

So, yes, I do believe people have been spoiled by the fact Disney has offered such extensive discounts the past few years. That's not an insult, but an observation of behavior based on the postings on this topic I have read. People can justify their sense of entitlement until they are blue in the face, but all one needs to do is look at their Annual Pass and you will see Disney's policy on the matter.

The reason I posted is because I believe there is a lesson here. With WDW specificly, plan the vacation you can afford, not the one you hope to afford IF discounts come out. This is called "counting your chickens before they hatch". Many people seem under the false assumption that Disney has an obligation to provide discounts 365 days a year, and it's simply not true.

I fully support people saying they are bummed out they aren't getting a discount, but when people start complaining about "fairness" it simply is not true. With an AP you are entitled to the possibility of a discount if one is available, not a guaruntee of anything. As any veteran will tell you, if you bought an AP simply for unannounced discounts, you made a mistake unless you are a gambler and willing to accept the possibility your risk will not pay off.

That's all. ;)

EXCELLENT POST!

I guess this is a life lesson for those loyal Disney customers who felt they had an "understanding" with a company whose primary goal is to make money. It's disappointing, but maybe it's for the best in the long run. Disney will always do what is best for Disney, and we should all do what is best for our particular situations.

We're not sweating the October Black Hole. We're just not going to get an AP next year which directly translates into not going as much (which amounts to three weeks extra this year). We're thinking we should go somewhere in the South Pacific or Hawaii. Perhaps if others followed suit, Disney would rethink their AP policies. As much as we like WDW, it's not the only spot to take a vacation.

I totally understand everyone wanting the best deal, as I love a bargain as much as anyone. I do have to agree that it seems some take it way too personal. With an Annual Pass Disney owes you unlimited access for a year to all parks, after that they don't owe you anything regardless of whether this is your first trip or 50th.

Also what many forget, that in the business world, companies need the loyalty of repeat customers, "if" they do not have enough business with new customers. At Disney it truly does not matter if rooms are filled with repeat guests or first timers.

If the lack of discounts results in fewer rooms being booked, Disney will respond. However if fewer discounts does not affect room occupancy levels, then all the wailing and nashing of teeth over the situation will fall on deaf ears.

They don't "owe" even that. The back of the pass says they can discontinue it at any time "without notice and without liability". Don't think they would but ...

While the CM should not have handled this the way he did, they don't get commission.
I had thought that some of them did, when you call you get the Disney Travel Agency & I was under the impression that they were the ones that got a commission. I know when you call for a FL or AP rate only, the do not..but someone had told me the other did :confused3 Out of curiosity, if they don't make commission, why are they so "helpful" when you call for a room only rate & next thing you know, they are trying to sell you tickets (even though the just heard me say I was a passholder) to the parks, water parks, disney quest & La Nuba..???

I thought it was cool Disney changed it from 120 days to 60. Silly me. I'm sure that will help out a lot of guests.

Maybe after looking at their room vacancies, Disney decided to open those extra 60 days to fill them up.

Any change (on anything in life) will have help some and leave out others.

You could be right about WDW Travel Co., however the person stated they called the AP line which is part of CRO.

They all go into the same call center & it just depends on what you are calling for ...is how it gets handled. So you can call one number for AP and another for CRO & you will get the same call center. Disney did away with seperate call centers a few years ago. They all come under the WDW Travel Co. I noticed when I call, that is how they answer & that isn't who I am calling..

I believe that the CMs have sales quotas that they have to meet.
