Any ideas where they could be coming from? I don't have any "bad" fruit, the garbage is a new bag, made dd clean her room 3 days ago.... We STILL have them. They are driving me crazy!!!!!

Nope, they are in the garage. I'm wondering if ds has something in his room. Guess I'll have to attack that room this weekend. Maybe an old apple core or something. They seem to be mostly in dd's room and the kitchen though. Weird.

Me too! I have changed the garbage, I put all fruit in the refrigerator...even my onions! Obviously, not a fruit, but DM said it would help...and I have wiped every possible surface in my kitchen. I still have them, and it is driving me nuts. Even as I type here, I have two of them flying around my head. Every time one of us kills one, we all explode into cheers and clapping.

Sit out several glasses with some white vinegar in them! This does work, do some extra cleaning! There was just last week on the news that fruit fly's caring different virus and disease! So get rid of them!

Do you have any plants they could be coming from. I've seen little bugs hatch from dirt around plants.

Yes..that is a good point! We also had tiny flying bugs come from one of our plants.....check your plants....
a simple liquid from a nursery got rid of them....( i forgot what it was called)

I saw that someone suggested vinegar, but try a bowl with 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup vinegar and a good squirt of dishwashing liquid. The vinegar attracts the fruit flies and the liquid detergent does them in.

Use APPLE CIDER Vinegar or wine not regular white vinegar! The fruit smell will attract them. Also put it in a jar with a few drops of liquid detergent such as dawn or joy, put saran wrap on top of the jar and poke some holes in it. I have had them bad for some reason as well and we haven't had fruit in our house for at least 3 months. Put this out on Sunday and only have a few left. Those in the jar are disgusting but it will help!

Keep looking for fruit - all over the house. My coworker was having fits from fruit flies. She finally found the culprit. Her in-laws had sent her a big box of grapefruit from Florida and she emptied out the box, all except two that wouldn't fit whereever she put them. Then her daughter put something down over the box and it was forgotten until .. the invasion of the fruit flies. If you have kids, food can end up in places you wouldn't ever think. Good luck!

i'm having a problem with them right now as well. Threw all the fruit out, changed the trash can, etc.
The weird thing about fruit flies is they just appear when you have something they like. Then when it's gone they disappear pretty quickly. Where do they live the rest of the time?

We have had them bad for a couple months now. I read on a website that they can lay eggs in your drains that won't wash away. You have to use some kind of foaming stuff, kind of like drano, to get them out.

We hung up fly paper, and it does catch some of them. We also spray them with windex, it weighs down their wings so they can't escape, then we squish em.
They will go away for a few days, then more re-appear.

A friend here told us they are bad in the area.
They bombed their house and that didnt' get rid of them!
They found out they were appearing at the site of a small leak under their kitchen sink. Her husband fixed the leak and they were all gone within a couple months. So check for leaks also.

Thanks everyone! I will try some of your techniques. I thought they had a life span of about 15 minutes (maybe a bit longer but not much) so I'm a little concerned about the infestation.

And you thought it was just my room

I have these also! They come by you when you are eating fruit-or when you're on the disboards with all the lights off, they fly at the screen. They are so hard to catch! I'll have to try the drain cleaning thing.

Are they a little bigger and faster and more annoying than fruit flies? I posted about this the other day cuz they're driving me CRAZY! I tried the apple cider vinegar, didn't matter. Then I found tons of them by my daughters diaper genie and I knew they weren't fruit flies. Someone suggested to try some foam drain cleaner followed by hot water. So last night, I put foaming liquid plumber in all my drains (except the tubs...dont want DDs bathing in drain cleaner) and followed up with hot water. Its still early, but we'll see how it goes...they're living in the drains...there were a lot by my garbage disposal too. Good luck.

We are having a HUGE problem with these in our office. We suspect it's the plants.

These flies are tenacious. As soon as you sit down for lunch, they swarm. And they like more than fruit--they seem to LOVE chicken!

We can't get rid of them here in the office.
