(Couldn't resist!) I just didn't act quickly enough when I saw them emerge. Plus, they actually avoid the sink.
We set out wine and put a cone shaped piece of paper in the glass. Seems to trap a lot of them--apparently they have trouble getting back out of the cone.
SUPER SUPER EASY WAY!!!
Fill kitchen sink with soapy bubbly water, use your dish soap like Dawn/Palmolive etc. The fruit flies LOVE the scent of the soap so they dive into the water, then they can't get out. Empty sink and flies go down the drain.
Goodbye fruit flies!

I tried apple vinegar before...didn't work
I just went around the house with a dust buster and sucked them up! I also used a towel and had fun hitting them. my dog also had a good time chasing them. yeah, we made a little game out of it!![]()

Actually if you take some wine and put diswashing liquid in it and set it out in a bowl near where the flies are you will catch tons of them. You need to change the liquid about every day but eventually after about three days you will get them all.
Apple cider vinegar in a small bowl (I used custard dish) and put a couple drops of Dawn in it. I guess they're attracted to the apple scent and the dish soap traps them.
The only way to be "rid" of them is to find what the larvae are growing in. We've found that sometimes "fruit" flies are really "veggie" flies. Check your potatoes. We've found that they love to colonize them as well as fruit. The first big "outbreak" of them we had we were stumped because we didn't have any fruit out... and then one day I went to our pantry and found a bag of potatoes that were past their prime and full of flies. I threw the bag out, and a day or so later, no more files! How do you get rid of them??? I have no fruit out, but they doggone things keep multiplying anyway. These guys are totally annoying.
Small bowl, cider vinegar, cover bowl with plastic wrap (Saran, Glad, etc), punch half dozen or so small holes with tooth-pick, ice-pick, etc. Wait till all are in and drowned, pour contents down sink and rinse.
