Is a fruit cup considered a liquid under the TSA rules? I am talking about the little plastic fruit cups made by Dole, etc.

If it can not hold its shape outside the container it is a liquid, so yes they would be considered liquid. Personally I don't like to invite any extra attention so I would pass and pack something non liquid instead especially now that many airports are inspecting food.

According to the TSA under "Snacks" only "solid food items (not liquid or gels)" are allowed. Under "Fruit and Vegetables" it states the same thing.

This might be one of those times you have to spend the money and buy fruit cups in the terminal. Stupid expensive...

Or if you really, really, must have fruit cups - get a large can. Drain and the juice. Pour the fruit into a sealable container. Pour the liquid into one or moor 100 ml containers. Put the latter in your 3-1-1 bag. Bring small cue. Combine and distribute during flight.

Or, fresh fruit.
