So I have been reading up on the gift basket options for our upcoming cruise to Alaska. This trip is in celebration of his cancer remission, but because it coincidentally overlaps my birthday, he has been gently pushing all our activities and such toward that celebration. I think his reason to celebrate is much more important (I have a birthday every year!), and I want to look into having something secret and special just for him delivered to our room.

We love good food, and cheese is the best food ever invented. I saw there is a fruit and cheese gift platter option. It reads:

"Whet your appetite with this platter of premium treats. Choose from a selection of superb cheeses, crackers and an artful arrangement of fresh fruit."

First of all, by "choose from a selection" I assume they mean we will choose to eat from the selection they give us. Not that we have the ability to choose our own cheeses for the platter...

That said, anyone who has gotten this, what was included? I see that the cheese plate from room service is...well...pretty mundane (if I see a mini Bon Belle cheese on a tray, it tells me something, let alone it looking like cheddar and muenster may be the other choices...hrm...). I eat Bon Belles at home, no shame! But when I want a nice cheese plate, it is NOT on it. LOL

I saw that at some point platinum cruisers could choose a cheese plate as a free gift, and the photos I saw of that looked great! Brie, maybe a creamy blue, excellent options! Is that what I can expect from purchasing a gift tray?

Basically, anyone who has had it or seen it, can you let me know what you got? Thanks!

We always order the *FREE* cheese platter from room service it comes with crackers and is of good quality. FYI the blue cheese is awesome:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

The free plate has the same cheeses you can get on the buffet everyday at breakfast and lunch. The Babybel is the only one not on the buffet. Yes, the room service tray is included but I think the OP is looking for something a little more special.

I will say looking at the photo on the DCL site it looks like it is mostly fruit with a few slices of maybe cheddar? IDK if I would bother with it unless someone who has ordered it can give you more details.

100% correct! I want something obviously a gift waiting for us in the room to surprise him with.

That's what I am hoping to hear. Thanks!

That is why I recommended the *free* cheese over the *pay* one. Our friends bought the other one and were very disappointed in it as it was room temp and did not have much cheese on it and a lot of fruit. If the OP really wants good cheese maybe a trip to Palo brunch is in order:thumbsup2 The one from room service usually has 3-4 types on it and we usually order 2 of them.

We have Palo brunch plans, but not until our last morning.

I am wanting to know more specific details of the gift cheese tray/plate/basket from people who have gotten it, please!!

FYI re REGULARLY spend $30-$50 cheese at home. So price is not the consideration.

We have gotten it for the last 5 cruises, but I don't think I could even tell you everything on it. There are 4 cheeses. Cheddar, Swiss or some other white cheese, a bleu or Gorgonzola and a soft herbed cheese. A couple different types of crackers, 2 or 3. Then fruit is different every time. Grapes are a staple, and we've also had whole apples, melons maybe pineapple or strawberries. There were also walnuts at the beginning, but haven't seen those in a while and maybe that's because my husband is allergic. We look forward to this every year and have already placed the order for September's cruise. Hope I was helpful... Oh, and there were also celery sticks..

I just wanna be clear. I am asking about the gift basket kind of cheese plate. Not the free room service plate. Sorry if I am misunderstanding, but I seem to be getting the free room service plate responses and not the gift basket/plate responses. Thanks for your feedback!

We had this plate waiting for us on our first cruise. It was nice, with as I remember blue cheese, a brie type cheese and some hard cheeses. The fruit was nice too. The best thing about it was that it was waiting for us when we entered our room. Because it was our first cruise, I didn't know about the room service cheese plate and have ordered it from then on.
If what you want is the surprize then definitely preorder the cheese plate. If all you want is the cheese, wait for it for free through room service.

First, congratulations on the cancer remission!!! We had booked a cruise for my dad hoping his would be in remission by the time the cruise came around. Unfortunately it wasn't in the cards for us.

The cheese platter you purchase will have Bleu Cheese, Brie, Boursin and some type of aged cheddar. It does include crackers. But honestly it really wasn't enough for all the cheese. If there is a specific type of cracker you want I'd suggest bringing them with.

Thank you. I am sorry to hear about your Dad. :( We didn't book until he was finished with chemo, because he was so knocked out he wouldn't have felt like traveling unless he was off the chemo meds. So we took a chance there would be availability somewhat last minute (6 or 7 weeks prior to sailing) and there was, thank goodness. I will keep your Dad in my prayers.

Thanks for the rundown, and the cracker recommendation. We do so love our La Panzanella crackers!

My response, above your post, is regarding that very same cheese and fruit platter. The one you order from the gift section online, right? I DO NOT get the one from room service. And from reading the other comments, it was a Brie, not a Swiss cheese. It was white and couldn't remember.

Thank you for the picture! I have to laugh that there is not one, but FIVE mini Belle cheeses on that tray. LOL But it looks generous, well presented, and a decent variety. Is that round toward the front just a Boursin type processed spreadable, or is it goat cheese? I assume the former, but wondered. Thanks again for taking the time to post that pic for me!

Hi and congrats on your husbands health! You may also want to consider a personalized basket from Shirley's baskets. She can personalize it for you and it will be waiting for you in the room.

Is that available in Seattle? I thought that was a Florida company?
