We're planning on going to the Frozen Live show at DCA on 4/3 (Monday) the 5:30 PM show. I've read a few places that we should plan on lining up 1- 1 1/2 before the start, and that everyone in our party needs to line up. Is that still true? Seems like some of the info is older, and talks about FastPasses which it seems are no longer available.

I'd plan to line up an hour before. They open the doors anywhere between an hour and an hour and a half before, depending on crowds. If you get there an hour before you'd definitely get a good seat. 45 minutes and you should be able to find decent seats. You do need to have your whole party with you when you line up, because if a section closes before they are there they will not be able to get in. Once they are in, they would be able to leave to go to the bathroom or something, just have to get a pass for it.

You're right that there are no fastpasses anymore.

When we were there a few weeks ago on a Thursday, we got there an hour before and they closed the "doors" for a while and said stand-by only after that. Of course, earlier in the day, they had cancelled the show after we had waited half an hour in line.

We walked right in at about 5:20 and we were able to sit together.

It definitely depends on the day. Some performances I have been to haven't filled up and you could walk right in until it started. Others have closed the orchestra and mezzanine sections with 45 minutes until the show.

So I just want to confirm, they let you in the theater and into your seats 45-60 minutes before the show and not just the queue?

Do they allow food and beverages?

Thx

No, they let you into the queue about 60 minutes before the show. They let you into the theatre about 20 minutes before the show. Before that you are packed in like sardines in the "courtyard" outside the theatre in your section.

Yes, they allow food and beverages in the theatre (they even sell them).

I wrote this on another thread, but for the OP, we saw the 2:30 show on Monday this week. We got there about an hour early, and the orchestra area was already closed, and mezzanine was almost full. Maybe 10 minutes after we got there it was balcony only. It was miserable waiting outside until they opened the doors about 20 minutes before the show, and then it was three flights of stairs up to the mezzanine. Quite fun. That being said, our mezzanine seats were fine and the show itself was really high quality. I would definitely recommend it, but be prepared for the whole experience!

Edited: I didn't notice the date, I see you saw it the same day as us, just the later show! Similar experience?

I agree. Our experience on Monday, March 26.

Arrived at Hyperion right around 2:40. Let the queuing area and Orchestra was about 1/2 to 3/4 full. Mezzanine was barely 1/4 full (if that) so we choose that and they hadn't opened the balcony yet. Orchestra was full around 2:50 and mezzanine around 3:10. I'm not sure if people could have walked up for the balcony until show time. There are a lot of stairs to the balcony and mezzanine. I did see that they have elevator so if a member of your party has mobility issues, I would speak to a cast member to see how they can help if your parties going into anything other than the orchestra.
