Frozen Hot Chocolate

Have you ever tried a chocolate egg cream? There's no egg in it. Not sure why it's called that. It's a north east coast, regional thing.

It's similar in ingredients to the frozen hot chocolate. I'd say put in about a quarter cup of the evaporated milk, or melted ice cream, a couple of huge squirts of the chocolate syrup, (adjust to taste,) then fill up the rest of the tall glass with cold seltzer or club soda. Stir slowly. It tastes like a chocolate ice cream soda or a chocolate float without the floating scoop of ice cream. :drinking1

A vanilla egg cream tastes great, too. I make it with the same vanilla flavored syrup I get from Starbucks, to flavor my coffee. :)

They have something like this at The Studio Movie Grill here in Atlanta. But it is more like a softserve ice cream than a shake. I don't know, it is REALLY good. Has some "whipped cream" on the top that tastes like marshmallows - could be Fluff, I don't know.
I have been trying to figure out how to do this at home. I don't think it is like the recipe from Serendipity - not really "icy".....

You do not want to be going back to Serenditpity in NYC. The Board of Health closed them down for a while do to lack of cleanliness & I think a roach problem. :scared1:

The Frozen Hot Chocolate had always sounded like a yummy idea to one day go there, until their temporary closing turned my stomach.

OP, thanks for the recipe so I can try it at home. :thumbsup2

How sad! I've been wanting to go there the next time I go to NYC.:sad1: They do have a location at Caesars in Las Vegas now, so that's an option for anyone who is concerned about the cleanliness at the original location. Also, there's going to be a clone recipe for their Frozen Hot Chocolate in the new Top Secret Recipes book that comes out soon.

I tried this recipe last night and will have some again tonite. It was delicious! I used a bit more ice and a bit more chocolate syrup and it was a bit lighter than a traditional chocolate shake.

Told you it was addicting..lol! Good thing evaporated milk isn't too expensive..I bought a BIG jug of Hershey's chocolate syrup that should last me awhile!

I shared the recipe tonight with my Mom and sister. I have a feeling they'll soon be hooked, too.

Here is the one I had at Serendipty last December. It was soooooooooo gooooood!

What you're referring to happened back in 2007 for anyone who was wondering.

Either way, it's not like their suffering any hardship. It's always nuts getting table there.

I've never tried frozen hot chocolate, but i love Starbuck's hot chocolate ice cream. it is soooo good!

Sounds so good I'm going to make it tonight for my family.
Thanks

We are drinking ours now. What a yummy treat.

I'd never had it before! It's a keeper!

WOW! This is basically 1/3 chocolate syrup!

Well, if you ignore the three cups of ice ;)

Really, if you divided into four servings, there are only two tablespoons of chocolate syrup in each serving. Everything else (if you use fat-free milk) is good for you. Each 1/4 recipe would only have 150 calories. Overall, not a bad treat in my book!

bumping this as we are gonna make it for the 1st time today!

Sounds yummy! Wondering how it would be as a "grown-ups only" treat with a little chocolate Godiva liquer mixed in. May have to just find out!

Gee, sometimes science can be fun! Sounds good to me.
