WDW News Today is very positive. From their Twitter feed:

"If you didn't know, you couldn't guess that an attraction was here before. Hands down one of the most magical experiences we've seen"

"The animatronics, use of projections, physical sets, music, and LARGE open sets are spectacular."

"If Frozen Ever After and Shanghai's Pirates are any indications, we're in for an amazing experience with Avatar"

Based on Pirates/Shanghai and FEA, I fear that we're in for a "Universal experience" with Avatar. Lots of 3D screens and VR effects. Hope I'm wrong.

Based on Pirates/Shanghai and FEA, I fear that we're in for a "Universal experience" with Avatar. Lots of 3D screens and VR effects. Hope I'm wrong.

100% correct on the flying ride since its Soarin with a updated ride vehicle but the boat ride is going to be more of a dark ride. Also, FEA is not anything close to a Universal screen ride. Universal uses screens in place of AAs as the main point of emphasis. FEA supplements the AAs.

I'm grateful to watch the video, satisfying my curiosity. But I kind of feel bad for the people just trying to experience a new dark ride, and having all those bright phone screens in their field of vision, ruining the illusion.

Watched the video...it's cute! But it's way too short, painfully short. It deserved a new ride and a longer one. I like that they kept the Maelstrom boats.

DH rode it this morning and said it was cute, kind of a Peter Pan's Flight feel to it. DS is going to ride it with DH tonight so I'll report back from the 3-year old!

True. But Frozen has cute characters to animate. Avatar does not. So I'm betting that the "screen to AA ratio" will be higher with Avatar.

Maybe the are not cute but Disney has a huge opportunity to use AAs to bring not only the Na'vi but a bunch of mythical creatures to life.

If the ride is evena fraction of Shanghai's amazing pirates or Hong Kongs Mystic Manor then I'll be a happy camper. I have zero affinity for Frozen (weakest Disney movie IMO) but I'm down with a technologicallyamazing ride.
