Frontier - New service

Our local news is reporting they will only service Burlington from February-April (assuming right before February and ending after April break). We'll see, Allegiant didn't last a year and JetBlue stopped offering non stop long ago. Glad there are other airports within driving distance!

We live right near Portsmouth, and that's a great airport to fly out of with free parking and it being so small, but, and a big but, after everything I have read and heard about Frontier I won't be using them. I flew on Allegiant and it felt like an old bus. I was lucky that it was on time and didn't have any issues. But it is my last time with them too.

Sometimes you just have to pay more to have a decent experience.

What keeps you away from Frontier? They fly out of my home airport and are much cheaper than Southwest or Delta.

I am also hesitant to try Frontier due to reviews but if the price were right, may consider trying it out of Portsmouth.
If the price were the same for a direct on Southwest out of Manchester, we'll just go with that.

I was happy when I heard the news that Frontier was coming to Portsmouth. I like the idea of more competition on non stops from NH to MCO.

That said, once you add the bag fees I don't think Frontier is all that much cheaper than Southwest. And I am closer to Manchester than Portsmouth. So given what I have heard I think I'll stick with Southwest out of Manchester.

I'm also hesitant to use Frontier out of Portsmouth. First off, I haven't heard glowing reviews about the airline, the upcharges really add up, and, as an added bonus, I'm very hesitant to put myself in a situation where, if something happens, the next scheduled flight is several days away. It's why I haven't tried Allegiant yet. Flying out of Portsmouth sounds great, but the lack of options if something happens to my scheduled flight is not great. For the time being, I'll stick with Southwest out of MHT. I do hope, though, that with more low cost options out of Portsmouth, it'lll help the MHT prices.

I was nervous after the reviews but with $60 RT flights out of our small local airport I gave it a shot. Now I’m hooked and we use them several times a year to FL and Myrtle Beach. By November it will be 5 round trip flights this year alone. I’d never take that many trips if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s so cheap. And so far, knock on wood, we’ve had nothing but great experiences.

Yes, this would worry me as well. Once, waiting for a flight north out of MCO, our Southwest plane arrived but was grounded for a maintenance issue. We had boarded the plane, then the plane was grounded, back in to the terminal, wait more, then we were moved to a new gate and another plane. It took a little over two hours total but Southwest came up with another plane and got us to Manchester. I am not sure the smaller "low cost" airlines would be able to do this.

Wonderful! Glad to hear a positive review.

We booked Frontier for our trip last Oct from STL instead of normal SW because it was cheaper. They had two return flight options one a 9:00am (so 6:00am ME pickup :() or one at 4:00pm. Naturally we chose the later one. About two weeks after booking and about 5 months before our trip I got two emails saying they had changed our flight times. Departure had changed 7 min, no big deal. Return flight had changed to 9:00am?? It took about 3 hrs total over 2 calls but finally got to speak with someone to explain that wasn't a time change that was a cancellation. In the end I got most of the money back but not all. Top it off they tried to bill me for the discount den renewal this year even though I had cancelled it. We used SW again this summer.....

Sorry you didn't have a great experience. I know a lot of people love SW but from here they only have 2 nonstop flights to Orlando per day and the times are not ideal for us. Add to that the price is always so much higher than other airlines and it's just not worth trying. I know you get two "free" bags, but we don't even need them so we prefer to use a discount airline like Frontier where we only pay for what we need/want.

You can still get Allegiant in Plattsburgh.

When my DW flies to AZ. We would drive to Albany or Manchester for her flights, so you are right there is other options besides Burlington.

We are in the Rutland area so Albany is actually closer for us. Hartford and Manchester are a little further away. Rutland airport is so expensive and everything connects through Boston.
