I'm looking at flying Frontier Airlines from Philadelphia to Orlando. Does anyone know what their baggage fees and seat selecting fees are? Also, what has your experience been flying with them? Thanks so much for your help and insight. :thumbsup2

I've flown out of Trenton to Orlando twice now in the past 6 months and I'm looking to book again in May but this time out of Philly. Both were great experiences and we saved a ton of money.

Their fees for baggage and seats are posted online. So far the seats I've seen are $12, $24 and $45 each way. We go with the $12 seats. I've been using them for shorter trips and traveling with a backpack and diaper bag that fit under the seat for free. But even with the fees it was far cheaper than our other options.

We've flown them a few times.

It's a short flight so no problems.
Depending upon the length of trip I sometimes check a bag for $30.00 each way.
Even if every one of us checked a bag it would still be cheaper than any of the direct flight options I've found out of NYC area airports.

Best flight I've taken for a long time from PHL to MCO. Crew was great, flight over all was smooth going and great.

Thanks for your replies. I really appreciate it! :goodvibes I think I'll be trying them out this November.

We found a "last-minute" flight from Milwaukee to Orlando for $63 round trip so booked a long weekend trip to Disney with a week's notice. I paid $25 per checked bag (each way), reserved our seats for $12, and each carried a bag/purse that fit under the seat in front of us. The flight down even departed a few minutes early and we ended up landing 45 minutes before our scheduled arrival time! The crew was great and we had no issues. We are big Southwest fans but we will be flying Frontier again, especially for shorter trips when we don't need to bring a lot of luggage.

I am a diehard Southwest customer and still am. However, one time when I wanted to fly from Chicago to Orlando, Frontier was CRAZY cheap. Like hundreds of dollars cheaper. If you know how to work their system to avoid the most fees possible they are great to fly. Flight crew was great and the planes are nice. Seats are small and the end of every flight turns into a bad infomercial for their credit card but if you can ignore that and its a short flight, youve found a great deal

Just flew Frontier for the first time this week from CLE to MCO. Other than a horrific line at CLE for check-in, everything was great! We paid for one checked bag and used our backpacks as personal items. We always bring food on planes and bought water before we boarded. That said i did notice that a can of Coke was $1.99 on board.
Crew was very friendly and checking in at MCO was a breeze. The price was great, $99 each way, flying on Easter and we bought our tickets two weeks before.

My family used Frontier Airlines and had a positive experience. We usually fly Southwest but have had great success with Frontier as well and would not shy away from them. I always check prices between Southwest and Frontier anytime we fly.

The price of things like beverages depends on where you choose to sit. If you sit in their comfort plus or whatever they are calling them now seats near front (not first class) your drinks are free unless you want booze. It's all in how these airlines work. In charging you say 19 or 49 dollars to fly, they will charge you in other places if you don't upgrade your seating arrangement.

Do you have to keep a close eye on their prices? I looked at their fares for Oct, PHL to MCO, and they were $139 PP! Where are these $12 fares?!

Yes, the fares change all the time. They usually release prices every 2-3 days it seems. And the really cheap $15 Buck Fares don't come around all the time and aren't offered on every flight. We got the $15 fare out of Trenton in February (that price is before paying for seats). These are usually very close to the dates though. They seem to offer them up for the following 3 weeks or so to fill up flights. And usually you have to be part of the Discount Den to get those, but the regular prices may only be a few dollars more.

We flew last October booked 2 weeks out Trenton to MCO for around $40 round trip before paying for seat choices. That added $24 round trip.

Thank you! I just realized you have to pay to become a member of the Discount Den. NO thank you! :crazy2: I'll keep an eye on prices but I have a feeling I'm going to stick with SW.

You do pay for it but it can be well worth it. You can get great rates without it though. There are times when the Discount Den rate is $15 each way and the regular rate is only $19 each way. In that case for just those flights it might not be worth bothering with the DD, but if you were buying 6 tickets it pays for itself and then you have it for flights for the next year. You just have to do the math to figure out if it works for you.

Thank you. I don't think it would work. For this possible trip, it would be for only two people. I don't fly often- usually only when I go to Disney! Otherwise, I travel places within driving reasonable driving distance (less than 8 hours).

One more question.... if I don't pay to pick a seat. how likely is it that my daughter and I would not be able to sit together?

I was a diehard Southwest fan until Frontier came along. Last year I booked our returning flight from MCO to PHL on Southwest due to a good deal at the time. I was waiting for a deal to book from PHL to MCO. Frontier came along with $49! I decided to go for it and glad I did. This year we going in mid August 8/13 and returning on 8/27. I booked our flights returning home on Frontier. They had a $39 sale. So even with tax, seat fee and baggage fee it still comes to $71 a person. Now I am waiting for flights leaving PHL to MCO. We are not going to Disney this year, just visiting the sights and sounds of the Orlando area and staying at Bonnet Creek. I am hoping for a $39 special out of PHL. My departure dates are flexible between thurs night (8/11) - Sat 8/13. I have a feeling I have a better chance at $39 on Thursday than Saturday. The money i save on airfare will allow me to go to Orlando earlier. I can find a good rate on a hotel easy for 2 nights. I'd rather be in Florida for as long as possible anyway. I budgeted $200 a person for airfare. If I get another $39 fare deal for $71 it still comes to $426. That leaves me $174 towards extra 2 day hotel and rental car. I am hopeful it will happen!!
