From your experience...how often to plan potty breaks for DD4 in Disney?

DD just turned 4 a few weeks ago. Has been potty trained since Feb (she was stubborn with that) but, no accidents ever. The last month or so, she's been having more frequent bathroom trips, not sure why. Anyway, I'm planning on taking her once we get to parks, after meals, before we leave, etc, but I'm really hoping to not have to go during or between every ride. Usually shes good with events...such as Disney on Ice..went before, during intermission, then left, and that was on me taking her, not her saying she had to go, so we'll see if its different where she has constant activities. Can you tell me your experience with this, and give me an idea of what to plan on?

We have gone twice now with DD potty trained. I pretty much have her go whenever a bathroom is conveniently nearby. I also have her go before we leave the parks and before doing any show or attraction when we have eaten a meal within the last hour. I would rather be safe than sorry on the potty side of things...

Hi,

My DD was closer to 5 when we went. After meals, when we noticed a washroom and someone else had to go, we made the kids go in and try. Usually when they said they didn't have to go, they went. :flower:

Same here when I know they havnt gone in a while I see a restroom. It is break time and everyone has to try. As the get older they dont want to take the time out to go and they have to all of a sudden at horrible times. Not fun having to leave a show or stuck on a bus.

LOL! Are there places in Disney were a bathroom isn't convieniently nearby?

In general, you need to know your own kid. My daughter can go hours without needing a break, my bladder is much more flighty. I take her when I go, sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't. She does tend to "forget" and get a "tummy ache" that can be cured with a stop.

In general, before you leave the park is good. Every show or attraction will be overkill. In the first hour of the MK we manage to do Dumbo, Pooh, Buzz, Peter Pan, and Philharmagic. You probably don't need to take her to the bathroom five times in an hour. However, if you are about to enter a 45 minute line, it might be worth a potty break before you get in line. Bathrooms are easily accessible in all restaurants, it can be good to stop before you sit down simply because getting up to go to the bathroom during the meal can be annoying for grown ups.

I take my 4 yr old everytime we pass a bathroom. mostly that is about an hour. She is my second girl and my first really tortured me with the potty when she was 4. I remeber getting all the way up in line, almost there and she would have to go RIGHT NOW! One ride it was 3 times! UGH! So I just swing in to the bathroom and place my 4 yr old on the toilet and say try! Never have any problems.

Um, yes? Lots of them. Defining conveniently nearby as the size of the bladder of a 4 year old who has to go NOW.

And certainly not before every ride, didn't mean that, but before getting on a ride with a long line or for a show that lasts awhile, if its been awhile, then yes, I take her. Better safe than sorry. DH can stand in line and we pop back in line after the potty run. MGM I think in particular is bad.

We've gone when DS# was potty trained at 3 & 4. We had bathroom breaks before and/or after meals, about 30-45 after drinks, before leaving the parks & hotel, and then when requested. We'd ask him before a long line or show if it had been awhile. Sometimes he went, sometimes he didn't. Of course, every child is different.

Really, there are bathrooms EVERYWHERE at WDW, or at least within a 2 minute walk--even when the parks are crowded. Some are a little "hidden" though, so use a map if necessary. I think your plan is fine and just ask before you jump in a 45+ minute line or say "try" approach if it has been longer than usual for your DD.

The bus stops! :teeth:
Definitely take her to bathroom before you leave the parks.

Boy, I guess my kid has some kind of "bladder of steel" or something. She is three and can go a pretty long time between potty breaks if she is doing something she is really interested in - drinks like a fish too... I have no idea where she stores it (unlike her mother, who has been nicknamed by friends and relatives "double t" which means "tiny tank". Its even worse now that I am pregnant. Heck, I'll probably be in there more than my daughter on this trip). We'll be taking her before we leave for the parks in the am and pm (after nap), and before we leave to go back to the hotel am/pm. Beyond that, we generally subscribe to the "three hour rule". If its been three hours and she hasn't asked for it, it is time to force the issue.

On a side note, the first time I went to Disney World, I was two years old and potty trained. My mom said they would wait in these long lines and once we got within striking distance of riding some ride I would say that I had to use the "bafroom". My mom said that she knew the inside of every bathroom on Disney property (granted, the property wasn't quite as large back then) but has never been on a ride.

The kids can go wuite a while in between potty breaks but Grandma has to go about every twenty minutes! :rotfl:

We always try to visit the Baby Care Centers frequently because they have little toliets for the newly trained :goodvibes Plus they are always very clean...

To speak up when she needed to board the train to tinkle town, here's what I always did. Upon entering a park, or restaurant, and before lining up for each attraction, Id ask DD if she needed to go. Worked for us, even if it did seem like I was asking 100 times a day.

Guess my son is one of the few with a "bladder of steel". He was 3 this year at WDW. We have never "planned" potty breaks, just went when he said he had to go. I would usually remind him after meals, before leaving the resort or park, when others had to use the washroom, but other than that he told us when he had to go. Never had any problems with having to go during a ride or attraction and no accidents.
