Christmas out of NY city is still not out of the equation yet. Just scoping out actual options on christmas day itself.

Jen, no you didn't forget. I dont' think I specified! We haven't got firm plans yet. Just wondering exactly how crowded is "crowded" at WDW around Christmas/New Year? And thanks for the recommendations and link. Will check them out.

I am not going to lie, WDW is mad busy at Christmas. Right around my birthday (the 19th) until right around the marathon (1/7) it's crazy. There's a reason it's the most expensive time of the year to stay at WDW. However, NYC won't be much better. I've done both for the holidays (grew up within spitting distance of Manhattan). WDW is great, the weather is beautiful, but the parks are mad busy. NYC is also busy, but it's a different kind of busy.
If it was up to me I would do NYC. Now I am a city girl, suburbia kills me, but I love the hustle and bustle of NYC for Christmas. There's a certain energy I've never found anywhere else.
But that's me, YMMV.

Still waiting for DH to come back from work so might as well stay on the boards for a bit longer...

I guess the hustle and bustle of NYC is probably part of the charm/attraction. I'm actually quite excited to see the window displays of the department stores. Sad isn't it? We've always enjoyed our Christmases in the States. It definitely has a different vibe from an Aussie christmas. The real question is whether we'll be prepared for the cold!

THought I'd ask about it now because if it's anything like Christmas in Sydney (which I'm sure it is and prob worse), All the nice hotels/restaurants gets booked out 3-4 months out.

Yeah NYC will book out, although with the recession you may get some good deals at least.
Yes NYC will be cold. And damp. Winters in the NYC area are pretty crummy. Gets dark early, not really snow but freezing rain. However you get lucky sometimes with amazing weather. Yes it's cold, but the sky is crystal clear and a brilliant blue.

Alan,

I'm not telling! I can be bought, however, but I ain't cheap! If what you told me does actually happen, it will be worth the wait!! It was nice meeting you the other day.

Tenya,
I'm sorry we missed you and Carly. We were looking forward to meeting our fellow cruisers.

We're here until Saturday the 31st if anyone wants to do a quick "hello".

Due to the fact that only 12 items can be posted for a poll, please contact Jeff as to which ONE of your logo submissions you want to be considered for the poll. Thanks!

My DH promised we would go on both of the new ships, but I am pretty sure the inaugural is out. Our DD would kill us if she could not go. So hopefully we will be able to do the PC cruise in Jan and then in June or July do a short trip on the new ship.

Hi everyone I booked the PC while on the Magic last week. Had to go with an inside. We live in Panama City Florida. I am hoping maybe for a FL resident but not counting on it. I am waiting for the Dream announcement before I make a 100% commitment. I have had the canal booked on 4 other ships but canceled. On the door signs do you just print them and laminate them. We will come down on Wednesday thanks to SW who is coming to PC in May and either stay at our DVC or at the airport. On the return we will do 2 nights maybe 3 at GC. Lat you know for sure Friday what cruise we are on. Capt Tom did say they the Dream will sail in Jan.

True going home sucks, but I have been gone 2 weeks. I know this sounds wierd but I am ready to get back to work. Becides I will be back Dec. 8-11 so all good there. Then I come back for another week at the end of Feb. Starting on the 24th I think. So lots of trips to come. Bless DVC for leting it all be possable.

Hello to all the PC cruisers,

I just booked a room on this cruise. It has been a dream of mine to sail thru the Panama Canal for longer than I care to admit. I wanted this to be a family cruise but the cost was high considering we need two rooms. My DH would like to go but if he is working, he would not like to miss that much work. My oldest DS is really worried about missing school and all the work he would have to make up.

So just me and my two youngest sons are booked for this trip. Things I have to do before the cruise are: earn/save money, potty-train the youngest, lose 20-30 lbs, earn some more money. I think I will still try to get oldest DS to go on the trip as he will be the one most likely to remember the experience.

I have not been on DCL since 2005 and look forward to being on the ship again. I will not be looking to switch to sail on the Dream and will cancel only if horrible things like bankruptcy or forclosure are involved. We have an inside GTY room and it will be interesting to see where we end up.

I want to sail on the Dream, but DH and I are really looking forward to this cruise so we want be switching ships.

How bout this, since it's pretty much obvious, though it will be 100% obvious on Thursday.

The tentative inaugural for the Dream is 1/7/2011, with a dedication ceremony on 1/6/2011 (After they shove us out of the parking spot - The wonder's ceremony was held in the evening as well, so that the laser tinkerbell would work better). That clears the port for the Magic on Saturday. With a 3 day cruise returning on Monday and another 3 day that Monday, the Dream can then take over the standard Thursday/Sunday departures of the Wonder.

How'd I do.

Think it will be too much to hope for if they take us out of the dock but leave us around so we can watch the inauguration? Or will they'll broadcast from the "Ariel" screen at the goofy pool?

Well, I think I can read between the lines. And even if I can't, it doesn't cost me anything to just make a reservation at the Radisson by the port. So, I just reserved a 2 bedroom suite for the night of 1/5. I was going to do that anyway but figured I better do it before the announcement, just in case.

Alan,
I highly doubt this, but do you "think" it would be a good idea to also book the night of 1/4?

I'm aware of two alternative options, either this one, or one that has the christening on 1/4 with the inaugural as a 5 day on the 5th. Guess we'll find out on thursday which it is.
