From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 3

Oh, no.... they do not actually "race" the 5K. There is nothing official about it... no numbers or clocks at all. But, the times I've seen it and the time my DH ran it, there will always be a few "fasties" in the front who want to run it fast and make it a race for themselves... my DH was in that category. ;) There are a couple cast members that run it. There is usually one cast member that is a pretty good runner who usually will keep up with the people in the front... the people who want to run hard and fast and try to race it for themselves. But, then there are other cast members who do a slow jog, and then there cast members who are walkers.... so there is a cast member for every category to make it fun and low key.

It's super casual, super fun, and there is nothing official about it... it's pretty much just a group 5K run and honestly, the majority of the people I've seen run it (I've only seen it twice) are just doing a casual jog, not even wearing running gear (just wearing like shorts and tank tops), and just having a good time.

But, there will be those few people in the front who will want to make it a race for themselves and those people usually kind of compete against each other (TOTALLY fun compete thing... my DH and the guy who finished just before him totally had fun together... they were just using each other to push harder).

Oh, and from what I heard, the one really fun thing (and it's totally optional) is the turn-around point is the adult only beach, and my DH and a few others that were the faster runners along with the cast member that stuck with the people in the front, they ran on the beach, jumped in the ocean for a second, got totally wet to cool off, and then ran back. haha!!

But, I could barely walk during that time because I had just injured my ankle, and I remember by the time I got off the ship and was hobbling down the walkway to get to the beach, even like 40 minutes after the 5K started, there were slow joggers and walkers still coming back from the 5K.

And, what was even more fun is some of the people getting off the ship would be cheering every single person on who was coming back from the 5K, even the walkers and slow joggers.

So, no.... TOTALLY not a "race" type thing... very casual, very fun, laid back, non-competitive. But, just the fast people in the front are the ones who might want to be competetive, but that is general a very small percentage out of the whole group doing the 5K.

Oh, also... one neat thing they DO do is at some point in time during the day at Castaway Cay, they send to your stateroom a certificate saying you officially completed the Castaway Cay 5K (and there is no times listed or winners or anything... just a cool certificate for you to have to show that you did it!!)

You'll have a great time!! It'll be a ton of fun!!

I'll be doing it, either as a walker or a slow jogger. I am certain I will not be fast by January (pre-injury, I would have been in the front of the pack with the "fasties", but at this point, I just would love to be able to run slow even a little bit!! I'll get there!). My DH told me that he'll do the CC 5K with me, even if I have to walk it... he said he'll go my pace to show his support to me. Awww... what a great guy. ;)

He also thinks it'd be a good idea for me to take the elevators on the ship for our PC cruise!! haha! It was the stairs on the Magic where I injured my ankle! :rolleyes1 But, I'm SOOOO cautious now on stairs that I don't think I'd hurt myself again on stairs, so I plan to use the stairs on the Wonder... I like using the stairs because it makes me feel like I'm getting some exercise... buring some calories while I'm taking in all those calories from the amazing food!!!! yum!! ;)

-Kathy

Thanks for that, looking forward to it again, I always take the stairs as well.
I have another half marathon in octobr then I am going to try and get my 5k time up a bit:lmao:Im laughing cause i donr do speed, ask Len:lmao:

Wow! Really? We went to the Blue Bayou - it was so dark we couldn't see what we were eating, the wait staff was rude, and the food I had was salty and greasy. Never did see the river people talk about, and I don't think I'll ever go back.:headache:

I'm thinking it will be counter service or off property for me. Which is too bad, because I love to eat.

I don't know if you had a bad experience, or if it has changed. I haven't been there in a very long time. For a variety of reasons, though I live in California, I've actually been to WDW more often than DL for many years - and usually when I get to DL I don't go for the fancy/pricey places (I'm much more likely to eat at Cafe Orleans for example).

But I did used to love the Monte Cristo sandwich for lunch.

That is so funny - you all mentioning the Monte Cristo - because that's actually what I had - I used to eat them at every opportunity - and it was the worst ever. I'll look forward to trying Cafe Orleans in January:cutie:

PIF has a new meaning today, I was paid in full. Pulled the plug on this cruise, hope all of you have fun. Guess I better change my signature.

Talked to DH and we *might/hope to* join the DL GTG on the 24th! Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Oh no, I am sorry to hear that. I hope things work out for you to take another cruise soon. Be well.

Want to reintroduce myself, I am Val and my DH is Bob. We are excited to be booked on the PC trip. We are also on the transatlantic cruise leaving on the 18th, from Barcelona. That cruise is taking up most of my time but we certainly are looking forward to this cruise and meeting all of you. If you wouldn't mind, could someone please explain how/if this group is doing an FE exchange? If you are doing an exchange are you broken down into small groups or exchanging with the entire group?

Looking forward to getting to know all of you and sharing in our exciting cruise. Hope all of you have a great Labor Day Celebration. Val

My wife and I took the ship to Barcelona in April and had wonderful weather. Hopefully you will be as fortunate. We will also be doing the WBTA but not until 2011.

I look forward to talking with you on the cruise about your WBTA experience.

Phil.

thanks Phil, look forward to comparing notes. Do you have any recommendations regarding touring in Barcelona or in the ports of call? I had hoped to take the Baltic tour in 2011 but I guess there won't be one, maybe 2012. Also waiting to see about the Hawaii possibility. If they just stop in Honolulu andthey aren't going to the other islands will have to consider if it is worth it. val

Can't remember if y'all knew this. found it on the allearsnet.com website:

'Ohana will be closed for dinner, for refurbishing from January 2 through and including February 1, 2011. We called 407-WDW-DINE and were given this information. They are still taking reservations for breakfast, but not dinner

That's funny I am holding a 'Ohana reservation for Jan 5 at 8:45. No communication from Disney saying that they are closed. The info you posted I got at the 180 when I couldn't make a dinner reservation so I called DVC member services and they thought that was weird that you could do Breakfast and not dinner.

Sorry, what does "got at the 180" mean? and i thought itwas odd that breakfast but not dinner was mentioned. not saying it's all fact nbut i've found allears to be pretty close to all accurate. just saying. dont know

I made reservations last night for two days at 810pm. The 180 mark they are talking about is when meal ressies could be made.

Yes the 180 was ment to be 180 days before. That is when you can make your ADRs. I think they got this wrong, or maybe Disney changed their plans.

Well done Lynne & Len!! Maybe in 2012 you guys will run the Disney?

Jen, Glad to hear the baby feels better!

Any news on the doggles? You must be frantic. I hope someone didn't steal them :scared1:

Oh my you all have been a chatty group, it look me a while to catch up again.

Congrats Lynne & Len!

Jen & Jeff I'm happy to hear Jack is doing better. As one that gets sinus infections quite often I can truly say they are no fun for the little ones or their parents.

No change on the doggies. Our county shelter is finally open tomorrow so keep your fingers crossed that we find them there. We finally found a spot in the fence where they got out and fixed it tonight. Now they just need to come home!

Just finished booking excursions. Website is way too slow to get times for every excursion. Below is what I booked with times. If you want to know the times for an excursion let me know and I'll find out for you. I wish they woudl just list the times on the main page but you have to actually click on it to reserve before it shows you times.

Aruba - De Palm Island Beach & Snorkeling - 8:15a-1:15p or 10:45a-3:45p
Puntarenas - Tropical Train & River Cruise - 7:45a-1:30p
Manzanillo - Manzanillo City Tour & Shopping - 12:15p-4:30p (probably not keeping this one)
Manzanillo - Palo - 6:30pm!

You are up late. I noticed that nothing was available for castaway cay.

I just noticed that too, I was going to check times for parasailing. Weird. I guess I'll just check again tomorrow. I really wish they would let DD do the Stringray excursion, I know she would love it.

And, I just noticed there are other excursions missing for other ports as well. The Coastal Highlights tour and the Harbor Cruise tour are not listed under Cabo.

Neither is the 2-tank Scuba Dive in Cabo, which I wanted to book.
That stinks! I can't believe we are the only 2 up late tonight. Does that mean we need a life?! :rotfl:
Ok, I am going to bed now.
