From WDW to DL With Love - January 06, 2011 part 2

Thanks to everyone for the info. I see some of us are on the same wave length. I booked CCI and am watching and waiting for rates for DLH and PP. We have never been to DL so would really like to get the full experience since I am sure we won't be going back anytime soon, but CCI looks like it is close enough to almost be on property.
Glad we could help! Honestly, if you haven't been before, and probably won't be going back anytime soon, if you can swing it I would definitely stay onsite. GCH is my favorite but it is expensive, but DLH was nice enough too and I'm optimistic about PPH after hearing good things about it. The offsite hotels are nice, but in a position of going for the first time and unknown about when you'll return, its totally worth it to stay on property for the full experience.

The renovations to the DLH will not be done. They are putting the finishing touches on the first tower that is having the rooms completly redone, and the outside painted. The new rooms look incredable. They have these headboards that have fiberoptic fireworks, brand new flat screns and other things. The rooms will all have a very dark blueish tint to them to complment the dark blue exterior. From what I have been reading it should be done by may 2011. I also think the best hotel at DL is the DLH. The neverland pool area is amazing. The slide it the best slide out of the three. The grounds of the hotel are wonderfull. I have also stayed at PPH. No complaints. Never made it to the pool, but it looked fine and the slide looked fun. As for the GCH, Disney really used no imagination here in my opinion. They just took the design of the WL at WDW, and did some changes. I mean they even riped off the name of the GF. I say bad show. I have been in the rooms as a friend stayed there, I rather be in the new DLH rooms, and for the price you pay for GCH the room was no better than PPH. So there is my opinion of the hotels. Weather, expect it to be very cold from about Cabo on. I have lived here my whole life, you can bank on it, but with the changing weather climates, you just do not know.

Regarding the Neverland themed pool at DLH, I guess I'm just spoiled from the pool at the Yacht & Beach Club Resorts in WDW because I thought the pool sucked at DLH. But I wholeheartedly admit that I am biased and had my expectations too high because I've stayed at the YC for 14 years and looking back I guess I should have never expected the DLH pool to be able to compare to the size and beauty of the sand-bottomed pool complex at the YC. Everyone had raved about the DLH pool in my research before staying there in 2006 and then I got there and thought what a disappointment. I do agree with you though that Disney didnt use much imagination at the GCH, and the rooms weren't that special. But I did love our DTD view room, it was awesome sitting on our porch taking in the sights and sounds of the evening, and I LOVED the thick cushions on the pool chairs. Those cushions were like 5 inches thick, it was like a mattress out by the pool, I could have just dozed off to sleep out there!

I'm disappointed that Cabo might be cool but I would rather be prepared than surprised so I'm glad to hear your advice, and will take that into consideration when planning that port and last sea day.

Happy Thursday everyone! I hope you week has gone well. LOVE all the plannning conversations. Too bad I had already booked our return flight - I might have considered two more days at sea! But, since I will have to return to work on Monday, I guess I need to be on the right schedule and all so probably better that we return Friday.

There will be no zip lining for us - DH would not do that with his back (fusion) but I would have enjoyed it.

Take care!

We would definitely be up for a meet at DTD the night before the cruise. We'll be staying on property but haven't decided where yet. Depends on what ends up being available when we get to the 7-month mark. Would LOVE to try AKV if there's anything available.

For me the best part of going through the Canal was that guy narrating. And it was SO HOT out on deck that we ended up going to our stateroom to listen to him on the TV for part of the time. Don't know what the weather will be like there in January.
[/QUOTE]

Just done a browse for weather and it seems all year the temperatures are around 85 deg or more. Rainy season can last till January, but they also say dry season is from January till April, so our chances of good crossing is great!! It can still be humid though. I remember the humidity well!!! Everywhere will be green and lush because of the past few months of rain.

Speaking of weather, the one negative about this cruise being in January is that once we get up closer to Baja, it's going to be downright COLD. That last sea day is likely to be freezing. Makes it kind of hard to pack! It will be moderate at the beginning, roasting in the middle and freezing at the end! Hmm...That was my only disappointment on the last PC cruise. Even in May it was pretty chilly the last couple of days. But it's worth it!! We'll just have to plan some fun indoor activities for that last sea day!

Those last two days were very cold Tracy. Could even be warmer in January so I'm not worrying too much, but will take some cooler weather gear anyway with being at DL for a few days after. Don't they have this thing called June Gloom or something? Well it was sure there that end of May!!!

What is the temp/weather likely to be in Cabo in January? Are you saying it will just likely be cooler on the last day coming up to California, or will Cabo be cold too? I have no idea about this area, I'm from the East Coast so all of my tropical vacations are to the Caribbean, so please enlighten me!

Castaway Cay was fine in May but not sure what it would be like in January. Even if we can't go in the water there are a lot of fun hings to do on the island. :thumbsup2

DH says it wasn't hot going through the PC so I asked him which ship he was on. :confused3:lmao: I remember it was so hot that I was dripping with sweat at times. As long as you were in the shade it wasn't too bad. Loved the fact that the narration, etc. was on the TV and on the big screen. You could be just about anywhere on the ship and still be a part of what was going on. I hope it won't be quite as bad this time. I want to spend more time walking around the ship during the crossing. Looking at the pictures from 2008, I missed a lot.

It was warm in PV where we went Zip-lining but by the time we got to Cabo it had gotten cool. I remember looking at the water on our Dolphin Encounter and thinking I did not want to get in. Once in the excitement of being with the Dolphins took over and you never felt the cold.

I had to buy another pair of crops on board to fly home in. I had worn all my long pants to dinner and it was too cold for me to fly home in shorts. From Cabo up I spent a lot of time inside on the ship. Not necessarily a bad thing. ;) This time I will remember to bring extra long pants. Especially since January in Ohio could give us snow, etc.

Jeff, Jack and I will be staying at DL after the cruise and not doing the 2 day. There's no way Jeff will pass up seeing the "sexy" monorails. We'll stay on points at DL, but I don't think we'll be staying at the Grand, but at either PP or DLH. The description of the refurb'd rooms at the DLH are awesome, however we're not had good luck with room assignments at DL so I doubt we'd get one of the newer ones....

Hey Gail,

MommaluvsDis wants to zip-line and we will probably join them. You could join us if you want. If we do the one in PV they have a nice bar area where your DH could wait for us if he didn't want to stay on the ship.

Carol, Doug must have a very short memory!!!!! It was soooo hot and humid on PC day!!! I think I had at least 3 showers!!!

I will keep that in mind. I am sure you already posted but could you please post the link to the company again??

Thanks!!!

Los Veranos Canopy Tour in PV. My husband, who also had back surgery will be at the bar waiting for me. I think it's $20 for non-zippers. They have a bar, little gift shop etc. Looks nice. I know he will hang (lol) out with the other non zippers. So hopefully you will consider it. PV is the location for us.

Thanks Tami! It looks like a hoot so it is definately on my short list. DH can either do something else, stay on the ship or sit in the bar there - and I am pretty sure I know which order his preferences will be in :drinking1

It was really hot! I got in trouble with a CM for "heating the hallway" :rotfl2: We were having an open house where you could just go by and enjoy a verandah for part of the crossing if you wanted. So I had my balcony and front door open...a CM stopped and asked what was wrong with my room that I would have both doors open...I told him "nothing" and he said I was heating up the hallway quite a bit!

Oh well!

Hahaha.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I guess it would have made a difference.

By the end of the cruise they should be working in the last tower, in theroy. So I say chances are good. If you can book CL those rooms from what I understand are all done, but since I don't know what tower the CL rooms are in, I can not say for sure. Make sure you see the "sexy" Monorail at night. I love how the cabin is lit up in blue.

We are planing on arriving on Jan. 4, but our friends have never been to WDW so we are trying to max out the park time since we will have only one day to fit in as much a possable.

We were at Castaway Cay this past January. The air was warm, but the water was too cold for us, we are southern wimps. There were lots of people in the water and the air temp was great for sunning. It was a beautiful, beautiful day. Hope for the same this coming January.

We were at CC on Dec 11 and although the water was a bit chilly, we got used to it within a few minutes. We really enjoyed the snorkeling and hope the water is not too much cooler. I wonder how much difference the temp will be? We missed the sunken Mickey and were hoping to catch it next time.

We will be staying a night at WDW. We are currently booked at Saratoga but hope to switch it to BLT at the 7 month mark. We plan to just hang out at DTD the evening of the 5th so we are open to a get together there. :goodvibes
