From TN to WDW! whats the best route?

My DW, DS (3), Mother-In-Law (not yet a Disney Fan-Atic) and myself are driving from North West Tennessee to Orlando on October 11, 2001. If any of you have made this trip, what is the best route to take? We will probably stay the night at a hotel and finish the trip on October 12.

Just get on I-75 as directly as you can and head south. You can't miss it! (Assuming you survive Atlanta.)

If you spend any time along I-40, mind the speed laws. I travelled from Memphis to Nashville last week and the entire stretch was lined with state troopers pulling people over left and right. They did not seem to be allowing much of a fudge factor. The good news is that it was posted 70mph almost the whole way.

I don't know the exact location in NW TN you'll be driving from, but I can give you general directions from the Nashville area. Find I-24 in Nashville. You want to go I-24 EAST until you hit Chattanooga. In Chattanooga, you will pick up I-75 SOUTH.

Once you get near Atlanta, I find it easier to take 285 around the city if you are driving during the day (I usually drive in the middle of the night and just take 75 S. straight thru the city). You will pick up I-75 SOUTH again. Stay on I-75 S. until you get to Macon, GA. There you will take the by-pass, 475 S., around Macon. Once you pick up I-75 SOUTH again and stay on into Florida.

Past Ocala, you will take the Florida Turnpike South. Its been about 5 years since I drove to WDW from the north end (usually come up from south after a brief stay in Tampa) but I believe part of the turnpike is toll. Stay on the turnpike until you get to I-4. You want to go towards Orlando/Tampa (West I believe). Once you get in the Orlando vacinity, there are numerous WDW signs/directions. After you get past Orlando, you can't miss all the WDW exits.

I may have fouled something up in my memory but that is a general guide. There are some little shortcuts you can take but I didn't want to totally confuse you. I suggest checking out some of the online sites like mapquest.com but the best tool for me is a good ol' paper map. Hope that helped and didn't confuse you!
