I think I have decided (with wonderful advice from these boards ;) ) to fly in the day before our cruise.

My question is this:

Can we take DCL transportation to the port the day before...and then get a shuttle to a hotel?

I have read where folks did the opposite...and stayed in a airport area hotel and then took a shuttle back to the airport to catch DCL in the a.m. Just thought it would be nice to stay as close to the port as we can

From what I understand the DCL bus will only take you to the port on the morning of your cruise. You can skip the DCL transportation and book a towncar service to take you to the port upon your arrival the day before.

We skiped the DCL transfers..and booked a hotel near the airport. We made sure we had one that offered free transfers from the airport to the hotel and back (Embassy Suites is what we picked)...then we hired a Limo to pick up up first thing in the morning...and REALLY enjoyed the 45min ride to the port in style. I think a town car would have been a good pick also. You could also always rent a car at the airport...and drop it off near the port if your wanting to stay closer to the port. Depending on how many are in your traveling party...I think booking some sort of transfers on your own (even the town car) is considerably cheeper than booking transfers through DCL...plus you have the say as to when you'll get to the treminal...which is not always the case with DCL transfers...you get their shuttle when they come...and depending on how many others are catching the shuttle will depending on when you get to get on it.

I believe that the DCL busses only leave from the airport on your cruise day, but honestly we've never used DCL transfers ... we found with our family of 4 that it was cheaper to rent a car one-way from the airport to the port. Last cruise we travelled with another family so we booked a van and a drive to the Radisson Hotel at the port the night before and then rented a car only 1 way back to the airport after the cruise. HTH

Does anyone know how much DCL charges per person for their tranportation from the airport to Port Canaveral?

I've checked their website, but can't find anything.

With a group of 12, I am trying to compare the cost of transfers between what Disney charges and a private van service, which will cost $380 round trip. This works out to just over $31/person.

If I remember correctly, I believe it's $50/per person round-trip. We could get a rental car for roughly $50 each way ... saving $100 bucks might not seem like much ... but it sure came in handy once they slipped that bill under the door on the last night

We are flying in the morning before and will be driving a rental car (mini-van) to a local Radisson hotel in Cape Canaveral.

Although there are a ton of limo/town car options in the area I rented a mini-van for $44 a day from Budget (discounts for Sam's Club Members) . Since my cousin will be traveling with us that makes 3 adults, a teenager, and an infant, which is too many people for a town car and a limo wasn't cost-effective.

The drive from the airport to the Cape Canaveral Radisson is 45 minutes and effectively a straight drive east on 528 (Bee Line) so you shouldn't get lost. We don't really need the car for the whole day, but since we have it we will use it to shop locally for water, diapers, etc and also a little sightseeing at Ron Jons and Cocoa Beach in general. (We want to try to figure our where Major Tony Nelson lives) :rotfl:

Side note: shopping locally really cuts down on what you have to pack

The Radisson which is 2.8 miles from the port (if you could stand on top of the hotel roof you could see the Disney Magic or Wonder) and has a free shuttle to the port. They have nice suites which are around $110 a night so this option is convenient and reasonably priced. Check out the link above that I provided to the hotel. The swimming pool looks cool!

Enjoy your cruise

P.S. I almost forgot, there is a Budget car rental location about a 150 yards from the Radisson so dropping off the car is not a problem.

Buddy Bear!

Thanks soooo much. Your reply seems to be a perfect plan for us...right down to the little one ;)

We are Sam's Club members too. That sounds great...

You're welcome. Glad I could help.

Thanks for the info. I also read on the wdwinfo.com website that DCL transportation to the port costs $59 per person. Based on 12 people, that would cost us $708!

We can get a van for 14 through Happy Limo for $365, which includes a discount code you give them from the Mousesavers.com. That's just $30/person - half the price of DCL!
