Hello,

My friends and I are staying at Wilderness Lodge from July 4 - 9. We have an afternoon flight around 1:30 PM and have currently reserved the Magical Express to get us to the airport from the resort. I saw that the ME can pick you up as early as four hours before your flight and I'm not sure if you really need that much time before hand.

I am also curious if getting a Lyft or and Uber may be a better option to hold on to those last precious moments of vacation. I would love to hear what people think. Thanks!

I think the four hour rule with DME is due to stops at multiple resorts before actually heading out to MCO. We fly & rent a car, and it generally takes about 1/2 hour from WDW to MCO(barring unforeseen traffic jams.) I wouldn't cut it too close to your flight time though, MCO can be an absolute zoo, getting through security can be time consuming. If we had a 1:30 flight we'd be exiting the property 11-ish, but we have to stop and fill the rental car and return to the rental company(takes a few extra minutes.)

We were in security in Dec for 45 min. Took ME in June, 3.5 hrs before flight we left. We were the last resort and got hung up in traffic for an extra 1/2 hr due to rain storm. I agree with Micca, don't cut it too close, so many factors in Orlando.

With how busy MCO is and how the security check line can get very long, not to mention Orlando traffic can back up, I would definitely plan to get to the airport 2 hours before flight time.

DME is 3 hours prior to your flight for domestic flights.

You COULD take an uber/lyft but unless you have TSA pre check you're gonna want to arrive early.
AT MCO its always a toss up as to how long security theater will take.
I've had it take 5 minutes and 30 minutes.

I would recommend DME.
You know they will get you there with plenty of time to spare and to me that makes for a great end to my trip.

We always use private transportation to and from MCO and we also have TSA pre-check. We usually leave WDW about 2 hours and 15 minutes to 2 1/2 hours prior to our flight. If you do not have TSA pre-check, I would leave no later than 3 hours prior to your flight. We've done both private car services and uber. When we used Uber, it was about $30 from BC to MCO.
