Day 1, Sunday, 10/17/04
The cast
Me, Erika, 35, Disney obsessed for as long as I can remember
Dh, 37, lucky for me, while not obsessed, also loves Disney
Ds, 11, much like dh
Dd, 8, much like me, Disney Obsessed
Up bright and early, cant wait to get away from squirmy dd, and in the shower. The kids are awake shortly after. I had originally thought about doing AK today, but decided I could not wait a few days for Rock-n-Rollercoaster. Off to MGM we go. We take the walking path, we love it in the morning. It was an absolutely gorgeous day. Tank tops and shorts, sure beats the weather we left behind. We go through the gates and head straight to RnR. We grab some fastpasses, then hit the standby line. Its only a few minute wait, so we can ride twice this way. Dd had been talking about riding for months, but started to have second thoughts a couple of months ago. Sure enough, she decides not to ride again. She heads off through the back door to the gift shop while we ride. We get the front car this time. The takeoff on this ride is my favorite thing ever!!!! It did not disappoint this time.
Dh and ds head off for ToT, while we wait for our fastpass time for our second RnR ride. Dd and I hit the pin cart, and the shop under the hat, and grab some fastpasses for The Little Mermaid. Another ride on RnR for the 3 of us, and we had back for fastpass time on the Little Mermaid. As we are leaving the RnR/ToT area, Goofy and Minnie come out for autographs. There is no one around, so we get to see both with no wait. We head for our show, and the standby line is awful. Its still quite early in the day too. There is no way I can stand in that line, thank goodness for fastpasses! After Little Mermaid we go to the Great Movie ride. The line they say is 10-15 minutes, but we go in anyway. This is the first time weve ever had to stop in the line before we make it into the area showing the movie clips. It only took a minute to get in there though, and the line moves pretty quickly. We did see the whole round of movie clips, and saw a couple of them a second time before we got on.
Lunch time after the movie ride, but first we grab fast passes for Star Tours. Dd has never done this, shes always been scared, and I havent done it since my honeymoon, as my motion sickness is much worse than it was 14 years ago. We eat our lunch, and head to the ride. There is a lot of noise when we walk into the line, which doesnt sit well with dd, but she goes on. We get right into a simulator, and sit down. She is quite unsure about this now, she asks if it pokes you like Tough to be a Bug. I assure her, nothing like that will happen. When the ride starts she says, I dont wanna ride, and I tell her shes ok, but she cant get off now. I am worried now. But, by the end, she is laughing, and says she cant wait to ride again. She has a new ride on her favorites list. Me, I was just happy, I didnt get sick!!!
The kids were now begging to go climb around in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground. Drives me nuts, but they love it, so we give them a little time. The super soaker is intermittently spewing water on the ground, and dh says that sure will surprise some unsuspecting person, when they get soaked. After a little bit, we go to round up the kids, dh goes one way, I go around the other. I hear this noise, and I see the water from the super soaker, but by the time I see it landing next to me, the rest of it is now soaking the entire front of my head!!! I guess I am the unsuspecting soul this time LOL. It couldnt have hit the back of my head or anywhere else, no, the whole load lands right on my curled bangs! I looked like a drowned rat. Just then I find the kids and I told them they just missed what would have been the funniest thing theyve seen in a long time. Several people must have agreed, because they were laughing at me.
We strolled through a few of the stores, on our way out (you will see a pattern here though, as Disney shops are my biggest weakness in life), and we headed back to swim. Last time we were here it was December, and while the kids had no problem swimming, it was a little chilly for us. Not so in October. It was so nice, the water felt great! We swam for a little while then we had to get ready for dinner at Chef Mickeys. We always eat here on our first full day. We take the bus over, then Monorail back and walk through Epcot for Illuminations. Its kind of our tradition. Tonight was no different. The main difference tonight was all the people in costumes, there was a party tonight at the MK. So many cute kids, and several dressed up adults too. The line to check in was a few people long, but we barely sat down to wait for our table, when our buzzer went off. Dinner was the same as always, and we love it. Just like last year, we were seated near a table of Asian adults, who have more fun than the kids with all the characters. I loved to watch them, they were having such a great time! More people should have that much fun!
As we usually do, we are able to get the front of the monorail for our ride to Epcot. You cant beat the view as you approach Spaceship Earth. I think its one of the very best views on property!!! We rode Spaceship Earth right after we walk through the gates. I love going on this at night, as there is never a line. We always walk right in and get in a car. Then we decided to try Test Track, the standby line says 55 minutes and the single rider line says 50. Hmmmm, not believing this, we walk in, and there are about 5 people in front of us in the single rider line. Not quite 50 minutes, more like 2 LOL. I ride with a british woman and her son, she is a little worried. This is her sons second ride and her very first. I tell her if it makes her feel better, my 8 yr old dd is riding with a car full of total strangers cuz she likes it so much. I think that helped LOL. Then I told her about the wonders of the single rider line. She said she waiting every bit of the 55 minutes posted in the standby line. She was so nice and she loved the ride. I loved listening to her talk, the accent is great. We grabbed a spot in America for Illuminations, about 8:45, and Im surprised we can still get a front row spot. I figured it would be nuts, because of the F&W festival, but apparently I was wrong. There wasnt even anyone standing behind us during the show. It sill moves me, no matter how many times I watch it. Total magic. After the show it was amazingly easy to make our way out the International Gateway, and back to the Boardwalk for bed. Tonight, we have the whole 2 bedroom, so I can actually sleep in peace!!!
