There was a thread around the last couple days about getting to the gates early. This picture shows one of the reasons why. We got to the gates that day at about 6:15AM because we knew everyone was trying to see Nemo. We were the third group to the Nemo ride. Soon after the Nemo line was three hours long. Things have of course calmed down since then for Nemo.

We went at the end of August last year. We got into the parks and on main street as they let us all in. Headed straight for Nemo but still waited for about 45 minutes or an hour. Not sure if there was EE that morning or not though. By the time we got off the ride I think the line was closer to a 3 hour wait. It's a cute ride but I don't think I'd wait that long for it.
You can add days onto hopper tix. But if you got them at a discount you may have to pay full price for extra days. In other words, if you upgrade at DLR I believe they know how much you paid for the ticket and will make you pay the difference to get it to a three-day hopper ticket. Hopefully someone else here can confirm this.
For a first time visit, I highly recommend a 2 1/2 - 3 day visit with one day MM....over trying to do it in two days (w/o MM). & the great thing is it's only a $30 add on for adults (& $25 for kids).
BUT....I don't know if you get MM if you "add on" at the park. (maybe someone knows) I would tell hubby that you're gonna do it right & get the 3 day hopper w/MM now.
As mentioned above.....Magic Morning or MM (aka EE or early entry) is the best way to tour FantasyLand (which is far superior FL than WDW, imo).
