Florida to Disney; What is the best way to travel? I am thinking renting a car would be best. I priced out town cars which would cost 100's of $$$$. We were thinking of flying next August, spent a few days visiting family and doing Busch Gardens then travel to Disney. We have never driven down (we live on Long Island) and have never rented a car in Florida. We would stay for 8 to 9 days. Would it be better to fly into Orlando, pick up a rent a car, drive to Tampa, then back to Disney and finally dropping the car off the day we depart? :confused3

We often head over to Tampa when in Orlando...my ds lives there. Where to fly to, and out of??? Depends. If you want to start your trip in Tampa, fly in there, rent your car at TPA (easily done), then drive to Orlando. I would check out various rental rates based on return place. Check out what it would cost to rent in Tampa, but return to MCO. If that fits the bill, you can then take DME to your resort....if you're staying at WDW itself.
If you rent from either Alamo or National, you can drive to either the Car Care Center or the Dolphin and return the car there, then carry on with your WDW stay. There are other car rental offices in the DTD area hotels/resorts.
You just need to check out the various options....do the math, and then make a decision.
If you think you want to keep the car for the entire trip, then price it out for rental at one airport, with return at the other.

Don't know if this will help or make it more confusing, but in July we flew into Orlando and rented a car, spent 3 days in WDW, then 5 days on a beach in Tampa / Clearwater. The plane tickets and car were cheaper in Orlando. So we drove back to fly out too. The drive is very easy about 90 min.

Hello, I will be staying in Orlando for my trip but just overnighting in Tampa for a Busch Gardens sidetrip. Would anyone know the best route to take from Orlando to Tampa that if possible wouldn't involve any tolls?

It's a pretty easy drive, just take I-4 west to Tampa. Follow the signs/billboards to Busch Gardens. I believe it's the I-75 North exit to E Fowler ave. and then its pretty well signed after that.

As the PP said it's very easy, get on I-4 west towards Tampa and when you see I-75 take it northbound and one of the first exits you'll see is Fowler ave.,go west on Fowler and you will see signs to turn left to Busch Gardens.University of South Florida will be on your right right around where you'll turn left. When you turn you'll see Adventure Island the waterpark at Busch Gardens on your left, right after you pass it the entrance to the parking area for Busch will also be on your left.
