Frogmommy's "Time for a change" thread - comments welcome

Super congrats on the 3 pound loss!! Thats so awesome! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Though i'm curious, what exactly is a hushpuppie? when you said that i kinda imagined those stuffed dogs i had a beagle stuffed hushpuppy when i was little.

Keep up the great work!

You are doing great, keep it up!!

You know, I just had one of my bran muffins with my lunch and they are SO MUCH better warm right out of the oven! I mean, they are still good, but I'm not obsessed with them anymore. I ate one and I was fine with it. Nothing like when I made them and wanted to eat them all, burning my tongue in the process. I guess I'm just weird... ;)

Your food and workouts look great, you will be losing more weight in no time! :cheer2:

Hi All!

Thanks everyone again for all your supportive comments!! :flower:

Rizel- A hushpuppy is something you get at a seafood restaurant. I think they are basically fried cornbread, and they kinda resemble small donut holes. At least that's how I think of them, someone else may have a better description. They are good.

Amy- You are right about the bran muffins. They are still good the day after, but not nearly as good as right out of the oven, when the cranberries seem to melt in your mouth. Mmmm. BTW, be sure to keep them in the fridge or something. The first time I made them I left them at room temp in an airtight container. They were moldy within a few days (maybe it was the whole wheat flower??)

Jamie- Hi!! Ty for stopping in!

Today was busy again. Finally got the deal I wanted on ebay, so DSs xmas shopping is done. Yay.
Speaking of DS, he got a scare today. We went up to DHs school so that I could teach a flute lesson. While we were there he decided to hop on one of the golf carts that the band parents use to help cart equipment to the field and back. The last person who drove it left the key in it, and apparently it was on. DH accidentally stepped on the pedal and the cart took off. DH had to dive on it to keep it from hitting a mini-van. Poor DS was shaken for a long time after that. Thankfully no one was hurt.

Anyhow, another decent day today, though I was kinda munchy. I ended up snacking on baked lays today with a small glass of diet coke. It was nice, and I haven't done that in awhile. I had to make myself put the bag up though - would have been very easy to eat much, much more then just a serving.

Go Lean - 1 pt
field green salad with ham, lt cheese, 1/2 pear, and vinegar - 2.5 pts
1/2 slice no sugar lemon cake - 1.5 pts
serving of baked lays - 2 pts
1 bite sized special dark chocolate - 1 pt?
greek chicken - 5 pts
orzo - 4 pts
green beans - 0pts
krave bar - 3 pts?
64 oz of water

Did 25 minutes of upper body today.

Thanks for the advice on the muffin storage! I still have 4 left and they are just in a zilpoc on the counter. I'll put them in the fridge today before it's too late!

Your munching is way less damaging than mine! Good job putting the chips away after you had one serving!

Keep it up, you are doing awesome! :cheer2:

Hi, Heather! So glad your DS did not get hurt. Thank God DH was there to rescue him (and the golf cart!)

Your food choices look great. I have gotten so hooked on Kashi Go Lean cereal and may try to use that in a "bran" muffin recipe, though I know Fiber One is really the cereal of choice for that.

Good for you in putting the baked lays away before they presented too much temptation. I am the same way with fat free pringles.

Keep up the great work. You are doing so great!

Hi everyone!

Ty Kate, Amy, and Cam. I think I am doing well but I feel blechy, and the scale is telling me I've gained even though I know I haven't done anything to cause a gain. I have felt bloated since I woke up Monday morning and it's not going away. I don't feel crampy exactly. In fact PMS has never really been an issue for me. Its almost more of a constipated feeling, (sorry, TMI) but goodness knows I eat enough fiber to choke a horse, and I drink a lot of water too. So I don't know what's up. I keep telling myself to keep doing what I've been doing and that whatever is going on will pass. I drank extra water today to see if it would help, but so far no big change.

I always get here about midnight. I read the other journals but don't always post because I want to have time to say something meaningful. I feel bad about that. Hopefully I can post some tomorrow.

Cam, I am very, very glad DS didn't get hurt. I think he was more scared then anything else. Hopefully he will think twice before doing something like that without an adult to help him.

I didn't know you could use fiber one in bran muffins. I've been using all bran. LOL, maybe if I made some more I could eat one and feel better!

Here's today's food:

Go Lean - 1 pt
hummus on WW pita - 3
1/2 pear - 1/2
1/2 serving baked lays - 1 pt
grapes - 1
1 pb cracker - 1 pt
about 4 0z of center cut pork chop - 3 pts
1 small red potato - 1 pt
brocoli - 1 pt
heartsmart ice cream - 4 pts (might actually be just 3)
8 oz lt cranberry juice - 1
80 is oz of H2O

20 minutes of cardio

I get like that all the time. There is no rhyme or reason. Don't worry, it will eventually go away on its own. Sometimes it takes a whole week for my body to get the hint that it's not doing what it is supposed to...

Your food choices are great and you are exercising, so I wouldn't worry about the gain. You know it will go away when the bloating does!

I have one more bran muffin left. I think I am over my fascination. I have been the only one eating them. I don't think I'll be making them for a while. Or if I do I will choose a different recipe!

You are doing great, keep up your hard work! :cheer2:

Thanks Amy-

I know what you are saying is right on the money, but it's hard not to get aggrivated by it.

I started feeling a bit better today. Maybe the scale will bounce back tomorrow. I think I might also start taking measurements so that the scale isn't my only indicator. That's the odd thing about all this . . . even though I've been feeling bloated my clothes are definetely looser on me.

DH has a clinician in town to help him witht the final 2 contests of the season. I forgot that we generally all go out to eat on Thursdays. Tonight DH reminded me by saying we were going to Uno's Pizza. UGH. I did the responsible thing and looked up the point values for all their menu offerings. I decided to go with the chicken chili (3 pts for 1 serving) and the house salad with grilled shrimp (6 pts). Well, the chili was great, but the salad...BLEH. It looked like they basically opened one of those grocery store salad bags and plopped 5 shrimp on top. I ate the shrimp and picked at the lettuce. I was still hungry after that and ended up eating some french fries, probably about 10 of them. :( DH felt pity for me and gave me a couple of bites of his sirloin. *sigh* At least I stayed away from the pizza.

Here's today's menu-
Go Lean - 1
Hummus & Pita - 3 pts
small apple - 1 pt
fat free yogurt - 2 pts
2 wasa lite rye crackers - 1 pt
chicken chili - 3 pts
salad with shrimp and FF dressing - 7 pts (and so not worth it)
10 french fries - ?
1 ounce of sirloin - ?
Mic Ultra - 2 pts
64+oz h2o

I did 30 minutes of lower body today.

That stinks that you made the healthy choice and it wasn't even worth it! Oh well, I guess that is a risk you take when you order something that is not their specialty... But at least you tried! :cheer2: You'll have to experiment and find out which restaurants have the healthiest selections and try to stick with those. I think Applebee's has a WW menu.

I was going to eat my last bran muffin today and something had gone awry. It smelled AWFUL! There was no mold or anything, but there was no way I was putting that in my mouth. Yesterday's was a little funky, but nothing like this. Have you ever had that happen? Next time I make them I will put them in the fridge right away like you suggested.

If your clothes are looser, you are definitely getting in better shape! See, the new bloated you is SMALLER than the old non-bloated you! That is good news! :cool1:

Your food choices are awesome and you are so diligent with your workouts. Keep it up and that pesky scale will be moving in no time! :goodvibes

I enjoy reading your food journal. You make good choices! Keep up the good work. :sunny:

Hi!!!!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi! Hope you are having a great day!

Keep up the good work. You can do it

Hi everyone :)

Hi Amy- Hmm. Do you use spenda instead of sugar? It seems to me that when I bake with splenda the aftertaste gets more pronounced with time. Oh, and I once tried making some muffins with the brown sugar splenda - the aftertaste was so nasty. Had to throw them out. Yuck.

Pizza Uno wasn't my choice for where to eat. You know, sometimes it's going to be like that. I think I made the best choice I could in that situation (OK except for the fries), and that's really all I can do. I found a site that lists the point values for many restaurants. It does help me plan at least.

Hi Kate - Ty for dropping by. I'm glad you like reading my journal. I find that making good food choices is a daily journey. Some days are better than others, but I hope I keep improving.

Hi Jamie - Ty as well for dropping by. You are always so supportive.

Sooooo

DH spent all day at school. No football game, so he scheduled a practice instead. In fact he just got home not too long ago. Tomorrow is Lower State, the qualifying contest for State. They could come in anywhere from 3rd to 1st. Anyway, the contest is in Charleston and they perform last, so we won't be going. Too far away and too late for the kids, espcially DD17mths. Since we wouldn't be seeing him much he asked us to eat lunch with him today. That meant Sonic again. I remembered how high the points were for the grilled chic wrap, so I ordered the salad instead. I need to go check the point value, but it has to be less.* I gave the onion ring to DH. I also left off the dressing and picked out what little cheese they put on.
*just checked and the grilled chicken salad is 8pts, but again that must be with cheese and the onion ring, which I didn't eat

I finally got around to making my muffins today. They are such a good snack.

The rest of the day went ok diet wise. I snacked a little bit, but stayed within my limits. I had a hummus on pita for dinner to make up for lunch. I had a little bit of Heartsmart Ice cream, and checked the points for the first time - was surprised to see that a serving of HS is 1/2 the point value of Sugar smart. I'll remember that next time I buy ice cream.

The scale hasn't come back down yet. I do feel better though. Maybe I'll see improvement tomorrow.

Today I ate:
Go Lean - 1
Grilled Chic Salad - <8
2 wasa lite rye crackers - 1
2 muffins - 2
baked lays - 2
Hummus on WW pita - 3 pts
1/2 pear - 1/2 pt
HS ice cream - 2 pts
64+ oz water

Got in my 20 minutes of cardio.

Wow what a day.

DH had lower state contest today. He has stress issues anyway, but this has been a tense week. They had a practice this morning. When he came home for lunch he was all out of sorts. Then he called me in a panic when he got back to school. *sigh* The good news is that they ended up winning the contest, which is the qualifier for the state finals. I found this out by checking online, I'm still waiting on his call. I hope he's taken a few breaths to relax.

I finished up some of the volunteer stuff I'd been working on yesterday, so today I concentrated on making the jumper for DDs Halloween costume. I'm not really sure why I'm doing it, she probably won't want to wear it for long. Oh well, it's fun and it will be cute in pictures at least.

Saw some positive movement on the scale. I'm not where I wanted to be by now, but it's an improvement over the middle of the week. Tomorrow is the official weigh in. My shorts are getting really loose on me if nothing else.

I thought I had finished my water earlier in the day, but realized I was 24 oz short as of about 2 hours ago. I'm working to get it all in. Guess I'll be getting up in the middle of the night.

This is what I ate today-

Go Lean - 1 pt
Open faced Ham sandwich on SP bread with red. fat cheese - 3 pts
2 muffins - 2 pts
1/2 serving baked lays - 1 pt
LC french bread pizza - 6 pts
bud lite - 2 pts
krave bar - 4 pts

Hopefully will get the water down before I go to bed.

And I did 25 minutes of upper body today. I worked out every day this week. :cool1:

Congrats on working out every single day this week! :cheer2: Great job!

Sorry to hear about your food experience at Uno's. Sometimes restaurants just don't cooperate! Why is it always the lowfat food that gets gypped?!

Ty Jane ;) I don't know why some restaurants don't improve their lower fat stuff. Maybe it's just not a big seller for them.

Today was a lzay day. We all sat around and did nothing until about 4:00. That's when somebody found some ambition and we decided to go shopping, lol. And of course, because it was so late we ended up eating out. We eat out entirely too much, but I think after yesterday DH just wanted to do something a little more fun than leftover pk chops. Anyway, we ended up at Fire Mountain, which is like a slightly nicer Ryan's. I started out ok, but ended up sampling a bit too much - things like fried okra, candy corn, part of a yeast roll, and 2 bites of chocolate cake. Any of these things by themselves wouldn't have been a big deal, but put together probably wasn't good. I did get a salad without dressing. I found some green beans that looked fresh, but realized after I ate them that they were in a butter sauce. I had a small piece (3 ounces maybe?) of sirloin that was actually very good, and 2 small peices of bourbon chicken (maybe 2 ounces in all).

SOOO, my goal for this week is to really eat conservatively so that I can make 8 pounds lost by Halloween. The weigh in today showed a 1 lb increase, but again that was an improvement over the middle of the week. So, I am now at 6 lbs total lost and need to lose 2 more by Monday. DHs last contest is Saturday, and I know we plan to go to Outback after to celebrate. I need to plan ahead for that now.

In addition to dinner, I had my usual bfast of Go Lean and lunch of hummus on pita. Snacks were 2 muffins, 1/4 small apple, and a serving of wasa lite rye crackers with cream cheese sprinkled with southwest seasons.

No work out today.

I'm just short of water, but not sure by how much. I plan to go fix that now.

Good luck drinking water! I've had a rough time with that today. I do great at work but at home on weekends no so much. :)

Good luck with the eating this week too. You can do it!!

I did use the Splenda/sugar mix in my muffins. I bet that was the problem! They did taste good right out of the oven, just not 3 days later...

I :lovestruc Outback! We go there quite a bit for Happy Hour (1/2 price martinis!). Be sure to get your veggies with no butter, because they do put butter on them. I always go with the grilled shrimp appetizer and a cup of potato soup. I know the soup is high in calories, but it is filling and I don't feel like I am going to explode when I leave. I also love the chicken salad salad, but it is WAY too big. You can make healthy choices there, good luck!

You did great all weekend. If you are like me, that scale will frustrate you to no end. Don't let it get to you, your clothes will tell you the REAL story! Keep it up! :cheer2:

Hi!

Ty Gradtchr and Amy. :) I know this week is going to be hard work, but I think I can do it.

Well, it finally got cold here. We had several days last week with highs in the upper 80s. Today I think the high was 63. It's going to stay like this until Saturday when we will get up to 70. Guess it's time to put away the shorts. I folded some today after doing laundry and told myself I would never wear them again. No tears were shed!

I'm really quite proud of DDs ladybug costume. It's so cute. Just have to figure out how to put the wings on now.

So this is what I ate-
Go Lean - 1
salad with 1/2 pear - 2.5
1 muffin - 1
wasa crackers with cc and seasonings - 2
a few cheese crackers - 1
grilled chicken - 3
brocoli - 0
basmati rice - 3 (had a little less then a serving)
FF yogurt - 2
Heartsmart icecream - 2
toast - 1
72 oz water

Did 20 minutes of cardio. I wasn't paying attention and missed one of my peaks. Guess I got a little caught up in Oprah.
