I keep our Chilly Pad in a ziplock bag in the fridge. It keeps it from drying out and keeps it from getting smelly. I don't find they get too cold especially when it's really hot out.

We have had one for a few years and never used it until this year. It really works.

I have seen them at Wal-Mart and Dicks this year. I think we ordered our's from QVC when they first started selling them a few years back.

Ok, I know this is a REALLY old thread, but it seemed the most appropriate when I did a search. :thumbsup2

Last AUGUST we tried the Frogg Toggs for the first time on our trip to WDW. Well we have had a really bad heat wave here, over 110  and I needed to go on a walk so I pulled them out of my WDW stash of stuff and they were still wet! From August! :confused3 They seemed totally fine, absolutely no smell whatsoever and they worked :cool1:

Now, I am absolutely stumped as to how to store them  if I set them out to dry they become crispy! Do I wet them and put them back in the container and they just stay wet?

I have no idea what to do :rotfl2:

I folded ours up and let it dry out before I stored it. I really wasn't sure whether mildew would set in if it stayed wet. Just don't put it anywhere it can get crushed if you let it dry out; they're really brittle when dry and supposedly they'll break easily.

Like I said in a previous Chilly Pads thread, the Chilly Pad gave my daughter a horrible rash after a few minutes of using on her back, which lasted for nearly two weeks. She's never been allergic to anything, so this was a big surprise to us. A few other people have also told us that they can cause rashes, so I would test yours out first before going on vacation.

Last week I picked one up at Walmart in the camping supplies section. They had a few colors to choose from...green, blue and tan. They were $12.88 and worth every penny!

I cut it in half lengthwise because I felt it was too big to wear comfortably around the neck. I wetted them, folded them up and put them into a quart size bag in the fridge overnight. The next morning, I tossed them in the cooler when we headed out to the horse show.

DD15 and I are both extremely sensitive to heat & humidity (and have both passed out in the heat more than once). As the temps started to rise, I pulled one out and DD loosely wrapped it around her neck before putting on her warm show clothes (breeches, wool jacket, helmet, etc.) It was AMAZING. Her clothes didn't get wet and it kept her cool enough to get through her classes without fainting or becoming overly heated. As the day got hotter, I pulled out the other and used it.

No, we didn't feel like we were in an air conditioned room, but it really did help us cool down and not feel so overwhelmed by the heat. We've tried those crystal gel-filled neck wraps and they don't work nearly as well. Those are messy, wet, and honestly don't cool us nearly as well.

I highly recommend these to anyone who does not handle the heat well. Be sure to follow the washing instructions for first time use. After the horse show ours were quite dirty (sunblock, bug spray, dust from the riding arena). I tossed them into a normal load of laundry and let air dry. They cleaned up very well.

Thank you! I will do that. :cool1: Absolutely zero mildew from last August stored wet :confused3 but I was seriously surprised when I opened the container that they were wet! :scared1:

They have been getting very stiff when dry, I did not try to bend them, but I could see how they might break.

They were great in August & last week during our heat wave.

I don't know if people are talking about 2 different things, but these are Frogg Toggs. Not sure if they are the same as Chilly Pads.

I recently brought frogg toggs pads, for my early Sept. disney trip, and tried them out in NYC during a heat wave last week. While they certainly do get cold (I think they even do this without the need for refrigeration...), I found that unless the pad actually touched my skin, there was no cooling sensation. So when the pad around my neck was not firmly around my neck, it just did not seem to work that well. ONce I put it over my head/hair, and because it was not tight against my scalp or face, I did not feel any coolness. Is there a trick to getting these to stay flush on the skin so that the cold can be felt?

You might try tucking the ends into your collar. I did that every now and then for some extra cooling, not because I was having trouble keeping it on my neck. Is it sliding off onto your shoulders?

Cut it in half lengthwise so it fits better around the neck (not so bulky). And yeah, I'll admit it, my DD tucked the ends into the top of her bra when wearing it under her show clothes. :rolleyes1

Yes, Frogg Toggs is the brand, Chilly Pads are the item. Same thing. ;)

I bought mine at Five Below for $4 in the sports section. Best $ I've ever spent. They came in a nice plastic tube. I also bought some from Christmas Tree shops a few months ago.
