frizzy hair? lol

I have naturally wavy hair but I can straighten it pretty well at home. In Florida, between the humidity and the change in the water, my hair just goes nuts! As a result I usually just pull it back in a clip but the last time we were there I bought a nice Disney visor. It works great for sun protection and holds my hair back out of my face. If we're going out in the evening after being at the pool I will straighten it if the weather is nice. I like to look nice at least once. ;)

So, consider a visor and have fun!

There is no cure for frizzy hair, but I know how to fight it. I live in southern Louisiana and it is always hot and humid. If I wouldn't follow the steps below I would have an afro....seriously.

First of all you must train your hair to go straight. This means you must keep up with the method below.

1. Get a hair clip. You will divide your hair in 3 sections starting with the underneath/bottom first. Pile the rest of your hair on top of your head and clip it.

2. Apply John Frieda Wind Down® Relaxing Creme Extra-Strength Formula to damp (not wet) hair. Dispense about a quarter size amount of creme into hands. Use more or less, depending on hair length. Work product through hair, from roots to ends. Do not rinse out.

3. Using a big, round, porcelain brush (you can get them from walmart or a beauty supply store), blow dry your hair section by section. If you attach a diffuser to your blow dryer it will make the hair even straighter & silkier. My blow dryer came with one and I got it from walmart for $20.

4. After this layer is dry, separate your hair into the second section and repeat the steps above.

5. Apply Aveda Control paste to the ends of your dry hair and spray a little hairspray all over.

i just tried the new sunsilk anti poof shampoo and conditioner. i think hair tends to "poof" more than frizz in the humidity. i will be blowing it out with bed head control freak serum so i will let you know how this works! :rotfl:

I usually have my hair up for the heat in FL but it still gets fuzzy, almost like I put my hair in a ponytail then stuck my finger in a socket. I also have alopecia areata which limits my use of leave in things and thick hair products. I don't suppose there is anything that would help the electric shock syndrome of my hair but not leave tons of build up in my hair (triggering another round of alopecia) and not make my hair look like I haven't washed it in a month? I know I am asking some pretty contradictory things here but I figured I would never know unless I asked.

PS I asked my dermatologist and she couldn't think of any.

A staightener is all that will work for me. I spray Biolage Shine Milk on my hair and then straighten it in very small sections. Then I apply Biolage Smoothing Serum.

frizz ball here. and i live in dallas, where humidity is almost as bad as orlando.

i use frizz ease serum, plus a bunch of other toni and guy stuff. I straighten my hair with a ceramic chi every other day. the chi works wonders! i can't get my hair straight unless i use it. i use TIGI afterparty to smooth it down some too and TIGI heat therapy stuff to protect from damage.

i just plan to sport a hat most of the time anyways!

I have very, very thick hair but I did find a way to settle it down while I did the college program!

I used Aussie Moist Shampoo and Conditioner and use the Deeeep Treatment twice a week. I'd leave my hair up in a towel while I'd dress and put my make-up on. I use a paddle brush and blow dry it. And then I have a ceramic hair straightener and I seperate my hair into three sections and straighten it. After I straighten it I spray Aussie D-Humidifier and brush it through.

It sounds like a lot, but trust me. This is coming from someone who's hair frizzes with 1% humidity. And it only takes me about an hour to shower, dress and do my hair!

AUSSIE products work the best. I've used Fructis and Frizz-Ease, but nothing works as well as Aussie.

What really works for frizzy hair for me is Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Anti-Friz Serum (leave in)

I also use Garnier Fructis it's one of those products that becomes addicting. :goodvibes To combat the humidity (and I spent 4 years in DC, same problem as Disney--built in a swamp) I've come to wash my hair normally. If it's a high humidity day, I use the 3 minute moisturizing mask, which I comb through, but do not rinse out. I let my hair air dry, and when it's about half way dry I scrunch in a peasize amount of gel.

Granted, I have no desire to go through this routine every morning. :artist: So I wash the hair the night before then pull it after using a turbie twist (also an essntial) to get out the excess water. In the morning it's still on the damp side, it just needs to be spritzed with a little fresh water and gelled.

For those of you who mentioned that new Sunsilk line....well I went to CVS on my way home from work and it is on sale for $2.99 and if you use your CVS card you get $2 in bucks back so it only cost 99 cents!! The cashier said it will be on sale like that until 7/21/06

I just bought the green bottle, for frizzy hair....hope it works

For those of you who are skeptics or scrooges like me and want to try somehting before getting a big bottle or spending a wad of money (which I'll do if it works) Target has sample bottles of both the Pantene ProV one mentioned here and the new sunsilk one too. Each sample bottle (travel bottle size) is 99 cents. FYI

One daughter uses the Garner Frutis products and a straightening iron. My other daughter and I use Matrix Curl Defining line of products as we don't mind the waves or in my case curls but don't want the frizz.

First off, try some sort of gel or cream before you blowdry your hair, then if it gets frizzy, run a dryer sheet over it. Do this whenever your hair gets frizzy, it won't make your hair greasy and it smells really good.

My DD-16 typed this reply. :artist: I have straight as a stick hair and hers is curly. I do have to say she does my hair often and it looks great. :cool1:

I grew up in Utah where it is really dry, so I straightened my curly hair EVERY day, and always had out of control frizz when I visited Florida. Since I moved to Southern California a few years ago, I learned that you really do have to style hair differently in humidity!

The two main things I recommed are: 1) don't fight your natural hair texture when it humidity. Even if you ALWAYS straighten your hair, it's just not going to hold when you're outside all day in the humidity. 2) put more product, like a flexible spray gel, in your wet hair before you style it. That will give it the hold without making it crunchy. I really like Aveda's sap moss spray, but a basic Suave product has worked for me too.

The other products I like are: Frizz Ease serums and smoothing creme, Straight Sexy Hair (I use these even on my curly days for a smoother effect), and Aussie's 12 hr humidity fighter (not sure of the exact name). I also LOVE the Citre Shine or Neutrogena shine serum (they're so similar) and the neutrogena leave in condition is great for a little extra smoothing. I always finish my look with a light spray of Pantene flexible hold hairspray to avoid stickyness.

When my hair is curly, it works for me to periodically freshen it throughout the day just by getting my hands slightly wet and running it over my hair. (I usually do this just after washing my hands in the bathroom before grabbing a paper towel). It will smooth some of the flyaways down and reactivate the product in your hair. Then, I scruch my hair with my fingers to freshen the curl.

Did you know that lotion can also work as a great hair smoother? Just a little bit smoothed over dry hair will weigh the frizzies down and add extra shine.

I have naturally straight hair, but the humidity makes it get kind of wavy, I have used the Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine and the fortifying shampoo and conditioner, and I also use the Biosilk silk therapy after my hair is dry. My hair does something kind of weird I get all these little baby hairs around my face and scalp line that come out when my hair is up...it drives me crazy!! These products have helped though. I bought the new Sunsilk tonight and used it tonight. My hair looks, smells, and feels better, really softer.
Plus none of these products cost too much. HTH

Go on ebay and buy a Chi CERAMIC HAIR STRAIGHTENER and Farouk CHI Silk Infusion Complex.

Before styling your hair, apply a small amount of the silk infusion into the palm. Rub hands together and work the silk infusion evenly through your hair. Style your hair with the ceramic hair iron.

It will change your life! :)

Nothing has worked for me. It looks great in the hotel room, but the second I walk out the door - forget it - I look like Howard Stern - but worse. :rotfl:

I've found baseball caps to be the best solution. :)

I have tried product after product. Brand after brand. Gel, foam, serums, sprays.....NOTHING works. Nothing. My hairdresser even admits that not much would help. I grew out my hair and plan to wear it back in a ponytail or whatever. I am still searching though and just today bought the product that Brenda recommended. The ISO Foam tamer. I have it in my hair now and have to dry it now. I hope and pray that this is the miracle worker.

Cover up your hair with Mickey Mouse ears! Nothing else seems to work in Florida!
