The big screen remake of Friends is set to go ahead, according to reports.

The cast are said to have agreed to the project after witnessing the box office success of Sex and the City, another hit television series given the movie treatment.

Rumours of a reunion for the six Friends stars - Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc - have been around ever since the show ended in 2004.

The cast are now reported to have signed up for a movie version, produced by Warner Bros, with filming scheduled to start within the next 18 months.

"Jennifer, Courtney and the rest of the cast are keen to reprise their roles, under the right circumstances. The success of Sex And The City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right.

'Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions," a source said.

Cox has made no secret of her desire to get the gang back together for one last outing, but Aniston has been reluctant.

The source said: "As the biggest star of the Friends franchise, Jennifer can't help but look at what's happened with Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sex and the City film and be a little jealous. What's held back a Friends movie so far is that people were worried that Jennifer had simply become too famous to play Rachel again.

"But the truth is that Jennifer is finally willing to do it, and she'd love to work with that whole team of actors and producers again. She says she and Courteney have already talked this summer about what they want out of a Friends movie, and if deals can be made with them, everything else can fall into place rather quickly.

"It really comes down to money, and I don't think Jen has a problem with all of the Friends getting huge paydays for the movie. In that sense, it's Sex And The City all over again. There's no movie unless you can reunite the whole cast and keep them all happy financially."

However, interviewed only two weeks ago, Kudrow appeared unaware of any deal and said it was impossible to compare Friends with Sex and the City.

"As soon as we wrapped [the TV series], there were rumours about a movie - started by I don't know who - but they've never been true," she said. "It would have to be done by the people who created the show, and no-one has made them interested enough to write it.

"I think it would be so fun to be with all those people again, but our show was not like Sex and the City, which was a single camera, filmic show anyway. Ours was multi-camera, in front of a live audience. It's a completely different feel. You'd have to bring the tone down, and I don't know how it would be. I'll just stay open."

Yeah Id watch it, I like friends.
Id mostly be watching it for Lisa Kudrow though, she rocks.

I doubt Id like put it on my favorite movie list or anything

i was just watching E! news and it said that the talk about the Friends movies was false...but if it is true, then yes of course I'd see it! That's one of my favorite shows =D

It definitely could have potential, if done right.
I saw the Sex and the City movie, but I've never seen the show. They did a good job of introducing the plot and all the characters and I understood everything. The friends movie will definitely have to accomplish the same thing; making the characters and plot lines come through but not seem forced in the movie.

I'll probably see it if/when it is released.

OMG if this comes out.... I'll probably die of happiness.

I would go see it because I love friends.

I just can't see it as a movie though.

I would rather an hour long episode.

yes i would be seeing it in the first 24 hours its realsed

See, I would love to have more Friends in my life because I only really realised the amazingness of it this year.
But I don't see how it could be a movie. As Lisa Kudrow has pointed out, it's done with several cameras in front of a live studio audience, it'd be odd to completely change the way they did Friends for a movie. It'd be odd and feel too formal.

I'd definitely go see it, I love Friends, but I don't think it has too much potential as a movie.

I love the show, so I think I'd go and see it.

i'm having a hard time picturing a Friends movie, like i can't think of what it would be about.
but i'd definitely go see it.

FRIENDS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SHOW!

ok so yeah... i am fan. I would def see the movie. i would go to see phoebe because thats my favorite character :happytv:

I would go see the movie, but perhaps doing a long episode would be better instead of it being shown on the big screen. That way they would have it recorded in front of the live audience. It would still have high ratings as loads of people would want to watch it. Suppose it all comes down to money though :confused3
