Friend's Mom's wake....to go or not?

OP here....

I went and it was much worse than I thought! As I knelt down in front of the body and prayed my cell phone started ringing in my purse. I WAS MORTIFIED! My cell phone never rings, everyone knew where I was and nobody ever calls me on the cell. It was my DS8 calling to ask me where the cookies were? OMG, I walked in the place all shooken up and left the place in complete anxiety from embarassment. I wonder if my Mom :littleangel: had something to do with it?? Hmmmmmm

Glad I went though

I hope you can find some humor in this sometime. All I could think when I was reading it was 'how horrible for you' and ' this is like something from a movie.'
I'm glad you went. I had to skip a friend's fathers wake because I was on a plane crossing the Atlantic and I've regretted it for years because I knew she wanted me there. We do these things for the living don't we? Bless you!

Listen to this one.......

When my SIL (DH brothers wife) lost her Dad my DH and I went to the wake, and then funeral. During the funeral we had to open our restaurant late so we could be there. Our only help was family that were all there too. Anyway we made a huge sacrifice to be there. When my Mom died last year my BIL or SIL did not even come to my Mom's services. SIL "had to work" and BIL had pain from recent Gout. I excuse my BIL because he was in a lot of pain and on meds but SIL should have been there. I haven't spoken to her since. :sad2:

Loved reading this, glad you went, and yes, I believe that was your Mom trying to make it better by ringing the phone:littleangel:

Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted- You were part of that comforting for your friend. :thumbsup2

This is what happens when people think primarily of themselves and their own feelings, rather than empathizing with someone who is grieving and needs emotional support.

Not everything in life is comfortable. In fact, the most rewarding experiences are usually those which require work and initially present as troubling and discomforting.

My thoughts exactly. It's times when I focus on others and pushed myself outside of my comfortzone that have been the most fulfilling and most character building in my life. When I've felt like I've actually made a difference on this earth.

OP, good for you for going!
