I tried to talk them out of driving, but there's no way! They will NOT ever fly!!
So,could someone who has taken this roadtrip tell me the route you used and about how long will it take them?(There are 4 ladies planning on sharing the driving).

THANKS!!

How long before their trip? Do they have enough time to join AAA and get the trip mapped out for them , its called a TripTic or something mainly uses Rt 95 but gives Alt routes around major/messy traffic areas.Plus they get road help and discounts.

Try Mapquest. I mapped mine out from CT and it says 19 hours. That is not something I am looking forward to, but, it will be a great move for me in the long run.

We've driven from VT several times towing our camper. It has taken us about 28 hours no matter what route we take. We drive straight through, changing drivers each time we stop for gas. I know that 95 is the easiest route, but we use AAA to map it for us.

We usually leave home (North Shore) around 7PM- this avoids rush hour near home. We are usually in Virginia by breakfast. We make the whole trip in about 22-24 hours.

We take 128 to the Mass Pike. Mass Pike to Exit 9, Rte 84. Take 84 to 91 in Hartford. 91 meets up with 95 near New Haven. You follow this into New York-you'll be on the New York Thruway for about 5 miles. I think it's called the Bruckner expressway (may be spelled wrong?).

We follow this to the George Washington bridge, and on into New Jersey. Straight down the NJ Turnpike to the Delaware bridge. Straight on thru Delaware and Maryland. Baltimore you will go through the Fort McHenry Tunnel-if towing a vehicle, you have to use a byway-over a bridge. I believe this is also the last toll you pay? It's about $50 round trip for tolls.

Just keep following 95 to the Capitol Beltway-Rte 495. You take this around DC. This part of the trip should be about 8-10 hours, depending on how often you stop and traffic.

Then, 495 meets up with 95 again in VA. Follow 95 to 295, which goes around Richmond. It's only a few miles longer, and saves tons of time on traffic delays. 295 rejoins 95 south of Richmond.

Then, it's just straight on 95 though NC, SC, GA. Follow 95 into Florida. 95 meets Rte 4 around Daytona. 4 brings you right into Orlando; just follow the correct off ramp to the correct area of the WDW resort area.

We'll be leaving to do this again on Friday! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

That's the same route my ds used last fall when he moved to Tampa. He took it very slow and easy...took 3 days total. He drove 8 hrs. each day. However, if there are several people, they could do it in one haul if they switched off. Or at least over two days, with an overnight. He left Central Ma on a Thursday morning about 4. He called me from NYC asking where all that traffic was, then again from DC..again with the 'where's all that traffic your online buddies talk about' comment. Guess he lucked out.

We are leaving Friday too from NH! Maybe we'll see you en-route. We always drive down, usually straight thru. Like someone else said we switch drivers every tank of gas. Works out well. It's cheaper for us to drive than fly and for us getting there is half the fun. Since we've done it many times we have our little "traditions" that we do on the way.
Can't wait to go!

Our friends are driving too, also departing on Friday. DH and I usually switch about every four hours. One thing we thought about this year: on the way down, we'll be going through DC between 5-7 AM. We might try and go into DC, have a breakfast picnic on the Mall, check out a few monuments on foot. There will be no one else there, and the memorials are always open. Thought it would be a great opportunity for the kids, and a break from the car, as well as a good leg stretch!

We'll be the green mini-van that is driving too fast if DH is at the wheel  :rotfl:

BTW, where are you staying? We'll be at Pop 20-25 of Aug.
