Wednesday 30th October

Ever since I had read a trip report by Jen (nenner1 here on the DIS) about Nachi Cocom, I had decided this would be where we visited in Cozumel. Nachi Cocom is an all-inclusive beach resort – free alcohol, a 3-course lunch with water sports and activities available for an additional charge. A few others from our group had decided to go along as well so it seemed like it would be a good day.

I was awake bright and early after a great night’s sleep and was pleased to see that the weather was already looking much improved.

We were due to dock quite early so we all went upstairs for breakfast at Cabanas. Daniel decided to get creative and made himself a bagel breakfast sandwich.

Sian, Gary and I shared a plate of pastries and doughnuts.

Back up in the room, we packed our bags and we re ready to go. We just had to wait for the ‘all ashore’ announcement. The flag was already flying.

We had arranged to meet Char and family at the resort so we disembarked and went to find a taxi. On the dock, we asked a friendly guy to take our picture. He did so and then pretended to run off, joking about how many expensive cameras he’d accumulated this way. I told him mine was only cheap so he gave it back :rotfl:

It was quite a long walk up the jetty and it was a little bit windy but it was a really beautiful morning.

At the end of the pier, it led straight into an area with lots of stalls and shops. There was an escalator leading down to the street but it was blocked off, meaning we had to walk past all of the shops with people coming out and yelling to us to buy stuff. We just kept saying ‘No, thank you’ and ‘Maybe on the way back’ and kept walking. It was only when we were halfway around that I realised that the escalator was probably blocked off intentionally, to make people go through the shopping centre. Honestly, I didn’t like it but, although insistent, everybody was perfectly friendly.

We eventually made it out on to the street and straight to a taxi rank. The driver told us it would be $15, which sounded reasonable so off we went.

On arrival at Nachi, we checked in and were given sombreros to wear for a group picture, which we later bought (can’t remember how much it cost but it wasn’t a bad picture and I’d had a few by then so I’d have agreed to anything).

We were given wristbands – purple for the adults and green for children (or maybe it was the other way round). Sian was pleased that she would be able to drink here as the legal drinking age in Mexico is 18. She wanted to try and Skype her boyfriend, having had limited opportunity to keep in touch so far, so she also paid the $5 charge for unlimited wifi access. Unfortunately, the wifi signal was not strong enough to Skype but she was able to message him via Facebook so she was happy. The rest of us were led to some loungers on a secluded part of the beach, right near the dining area and bathrooms.

It was still very quiet as we were among the first to arrive. I wasted no time in finding out who our server was, though, and ordering a couple of daiquiris – lime for me and peach for Sian.

Unfortunately, we hadn’t brought enough towels with us so we had to hire a couple of beach towels. They were a bit moth-eaten but clean and perfectly OK for laying over the loungers, which was what we needed them for. Gary decided to go for a swim, the water looked lovely but I’m really not a fan of swimming in the sea.

Daniel was in his element – he loves the beach.

Before long, Char and family arrived, together with Jen and Logan. Rob had gone on a diving excursion with Bobbie, Gerald and family. They joined us on the beach and we were soon relaxing.

The drinks were flowing nicely and the morning went very quickly. It was such a tranquil place and it was so nice not to be rushing off anywhere or feeling like we had to be doing something. This was the first time all week that I felt properly relaxed.

Before long, it was time for lunch. We were asked if we would like to eat down on the beach or up in the dining area. We decided it would be nice to eat together and our server arranged for a large table for us up in the shade.

To start, Daniel and I both ordered mozzarella sticks.

For main, Gary and Daniel had the ribs with rice and I had a chicken club sandwich. I have to say, I was fairly disappointed with the sandwich. The chicken was cooked, diced chicken and it was quite dry. The boys loved the ribs though. None of us wanted dessert and, as it had got quite hot now, I suggested we move up to the pool area for the afternoon since that meant I could get into the pool to cool off (plus they had a swim-up bar, what’s not to like about that).

So we gathered all of our things together and decamped to the pool. We were delighted to discover that Holly, Scott and family were in the pool. Some serious drinking followed and I have to say that the afternoon passed in a bit of a blurry haze. It was a lot of fun. There were probably pictures taken but, rest assured, you do NOT want to see them.

All too soon it was time to head back to the ship. We slowly got dried and changed, not in any hurry to leave. The staff kindly called us a cab and before long we were speeding back to the port. We arrived back with plenty of time to spare, feeling very happy indeed.

We were quickly back on board and getting showered and ready for some pirate fun this evening.

What a great day! :beach: :cloud9:

You look sassy in you sombrero pic ;)

I'm gonna have to steal a few of your pics! :thumbsup2

What a great day in Cozumel ::yes:: Lovely photos though surprised at the lack of cocktail pics ;)

Great day Joh
I can't for the life of me remember what we did in Cozumel but as it didn't include all you can drink cocktails it was clearly not as good as your day :thumbsup2

Sounds like a lovely relaxing day had by all :)

I actually had no idea that the Disney ships went to these places, goodness knows where I thought you actually went too, but I wouldn't have expected Mexico! I'm happily amazed, I must schedule in a cruise when my mini me is older...

This one is now on my to do list.

Very relaxing day, a lovely change. I'm impressed with Daniel's breakfast creation!
