Sunday 27th October
We were almost the last to arrive at Skyline for Mixology. Luckily, there was still room for us to sit with Wendy, Rich, Char, Nate and Cassie. Adriana and Randy arrived just after us and joined us also. We were a little cramped but it was pretty cosy.
For anybody who is interested the private Mixology was arranged by Emailing Disney Cruise Line a few months prior. I told them that I was trying to organise a private Mixology session and gave a preference of two dates (both sea days on our cruise). I was assigned a Group and Events Specialist, Alma, who worked with me to arrange it. After providing a few more details, Alma told me she would confirm the booking, time and date approximately 30 days before the cruise. I started a list in the Facebook Group of those who wished to attend and was astounded when we had nearly 60 people signed up. I corresponded with Alma again, who said that she would ask DCL for two sessions. Just over 4 weeks before the cruise, Alma contacted me with our assigned sessions. There were various to-ings and fro-ings and some confusion when we realised that we had been assigned both sessions on the last sea day, which was also Halloween. People were (understandably) worried about missing out on activities with their kids and immediately some dropped out. I went back to Alma again and eventually we ended up with three sessions, two on the first sea day and one on the last sea day. With some (a lot of) juggling people around, I managed to get everybody booked onto a session that suited them and we ended up with a total of 93 people on 3 sessions. It was a lot of hassle but totally worth it as the Mixology was a highlight of our cruise.
So, we had arrived at Skyline, handed over our room key (for charging purposes) and were ready to get started. There was a minor blip when Adriana said that they didnt have her and Randy on the list. Knowing that wed confirmed this just the day before, I asked to see the list and realised the problem they had switched rooms prior to the cruise but the list (which was ordered by room number) was showing their old stateroom number. The problem was quickly sorted and we were ready to start. Jerry was our bartender and teacher for the afternoon and he certainly knew his stuff. He was a cheeky, Irish chap. Im not sure if it was just me but he did seem to mention he was married quite a lot, as if he thought us women (and maybe the men) were going to come onto him
Throughout the course of the session, groups of three took it in turns to go behind the bar and make a drink. Since there were so many of us, two groups would make the same drink. Since we actually had some people who didnt turn up for the session (cough Chars parents cough) some people ended up with extra drinks each time.
We started with a Hurricane light rum, dark rum, orange juice, pineapple juice and passion guava.

Next was the Irish Connection, which was created personally by none other than our barman, Jerry Jameson, Amaretto, Limoncello, Sweet & Sour mix and fresh mint, topped with soda. Gary volunteered to be part of the group that made this one.

He loved this drink but it wasnt for me. Gary was pleased about that since it meant he got two.
Cassie and I volunteered to make the next drink, the Japanese Sunrise Midori, Malibu, Pineapple Juice, Sweet & Sour mix and a dash of grenadine. Such a pretty drink and we had a lot of fun making it.

And Wendy had a lot of fun drinking it yes, that is a pint glass of Japanese Sunrise in her hand.

The next drink was a Tropicale. This consisted of maraschino liquor and mango juice topped with champagne.

This one was my absolute favourite, as you can see from this picture.

The final drink of the day (and one which, Im ashamed to admit that I did not participate in, for fear it may push me over the edge) was a Baby Guinness. A shot of Kahlua, cleverly topped with a head of Baileys.

The Mixology Class was great fun, such good value for the cost ($20 per person) and I learned a lot about the various types of mixed drinks. Jerry was a great host and we left him a hefty tip.
The only downside was that we now had just an hour to get our drunk selves back to the room, showered and prettied up for formal night not great planning on my part
