Will they have/make special desserts he can have? It will be his 50th birthday and he and his wife are celebrating their 30th anniversary. This is thier first "real" vacation. I would love for him to be able to enjoy something nice after his dinner.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Go to Post #3 and scroll down to "dietary restrictions"

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

Besides what Cheshire Figment wrote, keep in mind that many sugar free desserts made with artificial sweeteners are not necessarily lower in carbs.

And, also, some people are not able to handle the artificial sweeteners (they can give gas and other gastrointestinal symptoms), so many people steer clear of the artificial sweeteners or try to limit how much they eat.

I have diabetes and I usually find it better to eat a smaller portion of the regular dessert than the sugar free. The sugar free usually has just as many carbs (if not more) and many diabetics count carbs. One thing that has worked for me in the past is to request the dessert that comes with the kid's meal. It is usually a smaller portion. The Plaza at the MK has a great kids ice cream selection!
