Friend called yesterday on last day of discount and CM told her this..

No joke. No details either, sadly. I'm just extremely grateful that there IS another offer.

Well something will please some of the people.

In the UK we rarely have the 2 bedroom villas at BCVs so I've opted for second best but would be delighted to see a discount on BCVs for our dates, if not well at least we are still going and I can put plan B into action :).

Same thing here in US, I am hearing the same from an official source. Sadly, no free dining, no fall dates.

I don't think that's sad at all. To the contrary, the rumored offer expires right around when free dining was offered for fall/hurricane season the first few years it was made available (late Apr offer, book by June, for dates mid-Aug to late Sept was how it worked '05-'07). So the next code being valid for booking for just a month and applying only to summer dates indicates to me a possible return to that pattern. Scaling back the discounts for peak times is a first step in getting back to a normal, rather than recession-driven, way of doing business.

I guess only time will tell whether scaling back the discounts and returning to the old model will work for Disney. I still contend that with unemployment as high as it is, and with gas and air fair as high as they are, I don't think Disney will be able to pack their resorts to the current levels without strong discounts of some sort.

Since I'm not completely settled on what we are doing this fall, I'll actually be relieved to see them delay the fall promotions. I'm sure there will BE fall promotions, I'd just like a little more time to commit on what we do. Of course, the down side is that if we want to go in mid-October, the ADR window isn't that far away.

When the really good discounts (like free dining, kids free, and other length-of-stay offers) were targeted to undesirable times of year Disney was filling rooms that would otherwise sit empty, but when those same offers are available right before Christmas or Spring Break they're just getting people who would have come anyway to check in a few days earlier to get the discount. We talked to several families from the NOLA area on our last trip who checked in a couple days earlier than usual for their annual Mardi Gras trip so they'd get free dining, and we talked to families who were doing the same thing for their Christmas trips in 2009. From a business standpoint, that's a loss - the rooms are full, but at a time when they'd have been full or almost-full anyway, and per-guest profit is way down.

I think that's where we're going to see the big changes - more percent-off offers during high/shoulder season, with length of stay offers only coming at times that don't border high season and eventually relegated back to their original purpose of filling rooms only during the slowest seasons. Which isn't to say that discounts are going away; Disney can adjust the percent-off deals up and down to figure out what it takes to fill rooms, and because those are night-by-night pricing they won't have the situation of people checking in on Thursday before peak season and getting a great deal for their entire trip.

Can I offer up my second born? I would hate to lose my first born, but my second...well...she is a handfull.

(please don't flame me- I love both of my DD's and would give my life for them)

LOL!:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: I have one of them too!:crazy:

I also think that if they really intend to cut back, I think you'll see it in less dramatic discounts, not the complete disappearance of discounts. I think we'll see free dining, because it moves the business like nothing else. But since the pin codes (not that I know......... since I never get any......:rolleyes1) have been for QS dining at value and mods, I think that's what we'll see for the next general public offer. Keep in mind the cost to upgrade went up a bit too. And I think we will absolutely see it for targeted weeks just like before.

I totally agree with you. I'm sorry to say that I would be suprised if we ever see the 4/3 deal again.

Disney is still offering discounts, but is making them more restrictive. For example, FD was historically only offered during the hurricane season, but was available no matter what type of resort you booked. Now you must book a mod or deluxe to get the regular FD.

I asked a TA today about when the new promos maybe coming out.......I think she ignored me......:lmao::lmao: No response.

I called reservations yesterday to see if I had a pin that I hadn't gotten an e-mail about (that's happened to me in the past) - I knew there weren't any out for December but just wanted to know if I even got the last round of pins. I didn't. BUT, I asked the CM if there would be discounts for December at some point and she said YES, but that she didn't know when and for what. I don't know whether she really knows or not, but it gives me hope anyway! :goodvibes

Sounds like the rep was just trying to pressure your friend into a quick sale. With this economy I just don't see how it would be possible to have no special offers.
