Friend called yesterday on last day of discount and CM told her this..

Disney clearly is trying to curb the discounting. And, it serves their purposes to tell their employees that there will be no further discounts this year. It creates a sense of urgency-- which is what marketers do.

Only Disney knows if it is deliberate "dis"-information. But, I look at the economic signs and it does not look good for Disney's "no discounts" strategy.

Airfares are up drastically, oil and gas are more expensive than they've been in the past two years, unemployment remains very high, people are still fearing for their jobs and inflation is kicking in big time with food and other necessities. There is an article in the NY Times today that says food manufacturers are afraid to raise prices, so they are cutting the size of products -- 16 ounce packages now only have 12 ounces of product and so forth.

Families are going to start feeling the pinch, if they haven't already. That does not spell rah rah times for Disney.

I predict we will see numerous discounts for the latter 1/2 of the year. I think the peak-of-summer discounts are probably over.

It seems to me Disney has decided they are willing to take some losses on empty rooms (and the related losses on park tickets, merchandise and food) in order to try to wean the public away from discounts.

If the economic numbers were better, I think they would have a chance. As things are, I don't think they do.

they seem to have left out any peak summer discounts, and it may back fire on them, cause people will look at past discounts and book, but if no discounts come out, may well cancel.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I will only book a deluxe if I'm getting a decent discount. I think they will have a difficult sell booking Deluxe at their inflated prices with no discount. I see a lotta empty rooms.

I had free DDP at POR x 11 nights, booked in winter, then when the room discounts came out, I decided to split, and doing last 5 nights now at BC with the 35%. If no discounts came out for Deluxe, I wouldn't have a problem staying at POR. But free DDP is never cheaper for us at Deluxe.

They sure are doing discounts differently this year, it will be interesting to see what happens for sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we've seen any gift card offers for awhile, or Buy 4 get 3 or anything of that nature. I wonder if we may see something like that for the fall. I think that's been offered before for late summer/fall bookings.

Hubby just hinted that maybe we can add a few days to our Myrtle Beach vacation (driving 15 hours from Toronto so what's another 7 hours to Disney?) so I'd love to see something tempting for late August otherwise we'll probably stay offsite because there seem to be a lot of reasonable deals.

You just missed the boat for late August discounts. Ended March 27.

Ever since the CM on the phone last year told me nights were selling out for MVMCP during our stay......... and I pinned her down on which ones, and did indeed confirm it was precisely NONE at the time......... I don't believe a single thing they tell me on the phone.

I am hearing the end of this week. Very similar to the room only discounts that just expired. No fall dates yet. No free dining yet.

Really? Where did you hear it? You see we are desperate..... DESPERATE for any news from the outside! No we're on the outside. We're waiting for news from the inside!

It is from "the inside"! Lol! It does not sound like it is going to be too different from what just expired, though. So not much help to those waiting.

I do want to clarify... I do not have any specifics, just solid generalities.

Any idea what dates the offer will cover? I'm desperate for any kind of discount for early August - the 1st or 2nd week. We are currently booked for the last week of August, but we can't go that week now.

Please, please, please...any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Some days I would offer up my first, second and third born!! DS wasn't impressed when I offered to trade him to the sales clerk for a pair of new jeans.

This past December when we were staying at the Boardwalk Inn and called about getting the CAA/AAA room only discount for August 2011 the Cast Member from the Disney Reservations Center said those rates had not been released yet. When we got home I looked online and saw that they were released sometime in August 2010, so the Cast Member was wrong and why it's hard to believe some of the thing they tell us.

Can I offer up my second born? I would hate to lose my first born, but my second...well...she is a handfull.

(please don't flame me- I love both of my DD's and would give my life for them)

Hey, I know where you're coming from.:rotfl: I used to tell my second son that he'd better be glad he was born after his brother, because if he'd been born first he definitely would have been an only child.:rotfl: However he was a beautiful child with the most adorable smile and mannerisms. People were always telling me what an adorable child he was and I was always offering to give him away, saying they'd bring him right back when they couldn't shut him up.:rotfl:
