All,

I was at the parks this past weekend and went into Hungry Bear Restaurant; alas, the menu boards are changed and the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich was, in fact, replaced with a Turkey Caesar Wrap and a Fried Chicken Sandwich. I asked the CM taking orders about the sandwich, and if I could still order it and she said no...BUT, it will be back in a couple of months, offered at Café Orleans.

According to her, the sandwich quality wasn't what Disney wanted it to be, and with all of the components and the fried green tomatoes, they determined it wasn't a good QS option. So, they will be bringing it back, but unfortunately it won't be QS anymore...Café Orleans is a TS restaurant.

Good news...it's coming back. Bad news...it will probably be more expensive, being at a TS restaurant. However; if it means it will be even yummier being more freshly made, then I'm all for it....I'm just glad it's not going away for good!

She said "a couple of months", so hopefully by the holidays???

This is decent news. Really wish it was still at HBR because I love the location and seating of that restaurant. The food quality made it a no-brainer.

Good but not great news for vegetarians. That still leaves the same veggie burger as the option at another QS place. Hopefully it will be added to CO and not replace the 3 cheese MC sandwich.

Seriously, the vegetarian QS options seem to be getting sparser and sparser. They changed the tater bake at Flo's again and it's pretty gross now. It's even worse for kids - my son basically had some form of mac and cheese for lunch and dinner for 3 days straight because there were no other options.

It may not even be the same recipe when it gets to Café Orleans. It may not be as good. It may be better. Who knows? But it's not returning to the Hungry Bear, which is important. I think that people liked having the sandwich at that specific restaurant. So I think that "a" fried green tomato sandwich will be back, but it may not be "the" sandwich.

Did you post this in the original thread about the sandwich? Since a lot of people posted in that thread and were following it, it would be good to have the info there. Sometimes people who follow one thread and receive alerts may not necessarily notice another thread right away.

It's hard to believe that the veggie tater bake could get worse. Was the change to the cheese? There was recently a recall of Kraft singles, so I wonder if the rubber orange square part was Kraft, and if it's just a temporary change.

Well....this is crap. Take a sandwich that is really good, say it's below standards (though no one who's ever had it would agree), then charge double for it at a place that requires reservations. Garbage.

:rotfl:I hear the Plaza Inn fried chicken will now only be available at the Napa Rose chef's counter.

UGGGH! I just don't know what to think anymore. I really like Disney, but I am so sick of everything being about the profit these days. Now moving this sandwich to Cafe Orleans so they can charge more for it? I know that they are a business, and maybe it was difficult somehow to make them there at HB, but some of the things they are doing lately just seem so silly. Hopefully it will be the same great sandwich and it won't cost THAT much more. But it won't have the same great atmosphere or convenience that Hungry Bear has.

Now if they will just bring back the baked potatoes!

The baked potatoes aren't gone. According to the menus on Disneyland's official website and a Diser's report on another thread, they moved the regular bacon and sour cream one and the broccoli and cheese one back to Troubadour Tavern. The bbq chicken one does seem to be gone.

Oh, I am so glad that they still have the potatoes! We mostly get the bacon and sour cream one, but I am sorry to hear that they got rid of the BBQ chicken one. My son loves those potatoes and it's a good snack type thing to tide us over to dinner sometimes when we haven't had lunch! The location at Habour Galley was better, but hey, I'm not complaining.

WHY?! I don't like the prices at Cafe Orleans. :scared: I got the Monte Cristo Sandwich and it was expensive! Now I have to remortgage my home! Don't remove this vegetarian option! I really wanted to try this sandwich but now I have to pay top dollar? GRR!

I've had it and I don't love it. Just my opinion of course.

I've actually had it several times because we love to eat at Hungry Bear and I don't find the rest of the menu appealing and I don't eat all that much meat. I keep having it because I really want to like it. Mine is always really mushy for some reason by the time I get to the other half.

Maybe this is the quality issue they are talking about. For this sandwich to be QS means the tomatoes are likely fried ahead of time and kept waiting to assemble, etc. Moving it to a TS venue means it will be made fresh to order (hopefully), making it a better meal. Although, yes, it will likely be more expensive now, too.
