Fried Green Tomato Sandwich Will Be Back!!!

I remember when the food at Disneyland was really below par, and then little by little they improved it, and then people were fairly satisfied with the options. But for the past year it seems, DLR is slipping back into serving food that is run of the mill and lower quality. I'm really disappointed. And, Molly, I don't know if you listen to our podcasts, but Michael (Merry Mouseketeer on the boards) and his wife, Carol, had terrible service when they went to Cafe Orleans last Friday.

...AND it will most likely be renamed "Olaf's Summertime Fried Chicken".... ;)

AHHHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! :lmao:

Boy...we are really harping on Frozen lately. But seriously, I'm SOOO burned out on that whole movie and the characters. I need a break from all things Arendale!

I need a break from Olaf and the sisters, for sure... but they keep worming their way into everything! :lmao:

They've raised admissions prices and lowered the quality of the park experience, it seems.

I love Disney and have never minded the cost; it is worth every penny to me to have a clean park, excellent food options and a superior experience being there...but this last year or so, they're making it harder and harder to support their decisions.

I agree. I miss the flatbread pizzas in DCA. We made a point to eat there and at the Wharf each trip. Now the only must eat place in DCA is the Wharf. We did eat at the Smoke Jumpers during our trip in May. It was okay, but not a must. I like the atmosphere of Flo's, but the food isn't great.

So my family is pretty fastidious about food. We like to eat at the "good" TS restaurants and enjoy ourselves (part of this is because my husband is German and cannot finish a meal while rushed). Anyway, as a lifelong Disney-goer, I like the variety in the past 15 yrs and appreciate the healthier options. My DD is pescetarian and we've NEVER had an issue finding her a meal.

That said, we all should realize, if you're feeding 50,000 people a day you aren't going to have THE FRESHEST food. They use indexes to show what their cost per item is vs selling and it's just business. I've NEVER had the fried green tomato sandwich and most of my friends haven't either. It's a big fan favorite on forum boards, but that doesn't necessarily translate into the masses attending DL everyday. If 250 people her like it here, that doesn't mean it's worth the cost to keep it on a menu.

So don't take it personally, it's cost vs. value only

The thing is, the sandwich was terrific. One person here had an issue with the second half of the sandwich. I never had that issue. Mine always tastes fresh and wonderful. There was nothing lacking in it whatsoever.

I never had issues with it, either...but if one person on this thread did, perhaps many more in the parks did?

It's hard to believe that the veggie tater bake could get worse. Was the change to the cheese? There was recently a recall of Kraft singles, so I wonder if the rubber orange square part was Kraft, and if it's just a temporary change.

We had it about a year ago, and it was alright - nothing spectacular, but the potatoes were tasty and crispy on top and the filling was a good mixture of mushroom/veg/grains. DH liked it better than the mushroom monstrosity he had at Blue Bayou. This time the cheese was barely melted and the filling was like 50% slimy mushrooms.

We ate at Carthay Circle for DH's birthday this year. Looking at the cost of that meal vs the cost of several of the other TS places we visited (looking at you, Cafe Orleans!) and the quality.... I'm seriously tempted to up our food budget a smidge for the next trip and make that a regular restaurant for us!

What horrible news! That is one of my park favorites! I had the fried green tomato sandwich twice last visit in July. It was yummy! If they move it to Cafe Orleans I may not even be able to have it even if I wanted to pay more for it. I have a severe fish allergy and Hungry Bear didn't have any fish on the menu so I didn't have to worry about cross contact. At Cafe Orleans it will most likely be fried with fish.

Agree! They especially need to keep the QS options varied. Nothing worse than being offered the same (lousy) items at Counter after Counter. You can only eat so many bland, overcooked and dried hamburgers! And lowering the quality and variety is a terrible way to "do business".... a tired excuse for dropping quality!!

Well, it's entirely possible they'll change this, too, as they seem to be going away from their amazing policies, but they do NOT tend to cook veggie items in the same oil as meat items (I know many don't consider fish to be meat, but I do).

If something is fried on a grill, some places offer to cook it in a pan. However, if they toss it in the deep fryer, it will go in to the same oil as the fish. I don't actually know how they cook the tomatoes. Some people not considering fish a meat is also a problem for me too. Just because something says vegetarian, doesn't mean I can have it. I have to ask.

I think Disney knows the difference between Pescetarian and Vegetarian...I would bet they use different oil to fry fish/meat than an item that is touted as vegetarian.

They don't just have one fryer. They know the differences and tend to make things correctly.

I hope you both are right. The pomme frites were not on the allergy menu as safe for fish allergies so I assumed the fried the fries in the same fryer as the fish as most restaurants do. (When I can get safe fries at a restaurant, I'm excited). But I didn't actually go talk to the chef last time I was there. If the sandwich gets moved there, I will go check. As far as fish vs vegetarian, yes, Disney knows that. I just meant in everyday places I have to watch out.

Is the Lemon Bumblebee Cupcake a thing of the past too? I didn't see it when I was looking at menus the other day. Never got to try it. :(
