Fried Chicken.....

it's the South....I know there's gotta be somewhere in the World that has some good home-cooked fried chicken!! C'mon - tell me people!!

50's Prime Time Diner at DHS has Fried Chicken. But the best thing there is the Smores for dessert. Worth going just for that.

I was also going to suggest Prime Time... I had the fried chicken a few years ago and thought it was very good....Disclaimer... I am not from the south.

50's Prime Time is so not southern fried chicken. I'm a Texan by birth and it tastes nothing like what I was raised on (or what I make occasionally - it's so bad for you). I thought the 50'sPT fried chicken was pretty bland. I have a hard time thinking of Florida as the south. Most people who live there are transplants from the north.

I'm from Alabama, you can't get much more southern than that and I think that 50's PTC has some of the the best fried chicken I've eaten. I've had it several times and it's always been served piping hot..

What does your fried chicken taste like? Because I think the 50s PT fried chicken is pretty close to my mom's - and I was raised in NC.

She was raised in Virgina and really knew how to fry a chicken - a skill I did not inherit!!!

When it comes to good food, I'll always trust someone from Alabama!! Especially when it comes to fried chicken.

I might just have to make a stop at 50's - are ADR's required??

50s Prime Time hands down. I use to think Trails End had great fried chicken (it's also the same chicken as the hoopdeedo). But then I had it at the 50s Prime Time and have been hooked ever since.

I've never tried 50's Prime Time, but I do like Trails End. If you just want to take a break from the parks T.E. is a great place to have dinner and just relax for the evening. You can eat at the buffet or you can get a bucket of chicken to go and picinic at the beach.

I agree that Trails End is a great change of pace and you can indeed get your fried chicken there.... I think the chicken at Prime Time is a bit better... BUT the amount of food you get at Trails End for the price you pay is a much better meal.... It is worth the trip to the Fort... Take the boat over on a day that you will be at the MK... Nice and quick boat ride over for a great meal.

As a born and bred southerner (lived in TN nearly all my life), I have to say that the fried chicken at 50s Prime Time is just okay to me. It wasn't terrible by any means, and neither was the other food. But honestly I can get much better fried chicken and other southern food at a small, family owned dive in my tiny town, and my whole family (2 adults, 1 child, 1 toddler) can eat for $15.50 TOTAL including drink, dessert, and tax. So it's kinda hard for me to really rave over the food at PT, especially given the price you pay. However, if you're not a connoisseur of fried chicken, I'd say you would do just fine at PT! JMHO, and I hope you enjoy whatever you choose.

I just know that since I'll be in South, I'll want some fried chicken, so why not than get it while I'm there. I'll make a lunch ADR for PT for sure though!!

It's fine I'm sure if you are not from the south. Kind of like that place in the Mexican pavillion that they say serves Mexican food, definitely not my grandmother's kitchen. Anyway, real fried chicken needs to be soaked in a bucket all night in the beer frig that's outside on the porch (called brine). Then it has to be fried in the grease that mom has been reusing for the last 3 months and adding bacon grease to. That's real fried chicken. Ever had dad throw out mom's grease? Yikes!

The fried chicken from Trail's End was the best fried chicken I have eaten since eating at The Lady and Sons Restaurant (Paula Deen's) in Savannah, Ga. I am also from Alabama and frying chicken is a birthright here

I think the secret is soaking it in buttermilk, it makes the meat tender and juicy.

I know what you mean. Like I live in Southern California and I have no plans to eat any sort of Mexican, Asian or at California Grill while I'm there. )

But now it's going to be a toss up between Trails End and Prime Time.

Heck, maybe I'll do both! Gotta love the dining plans!!!

Well, not most people. I live "there" as did my parents, and their parents, etc.... A lot of folks in south Florida are transplants, but when you go north and west of central Florida, we are mostly native Floridians. We do make real southern fried chicken here. I was born and raised here, as was my hubby. I learned how to fry chicken when I was barely 10 years old. That, and how to fix sweet tea. Funny how there is no sweet tea in WDW, either.....

I don't get that one either . Fried Chicken and Sweet Tea making are a right of passage for any Southern woman. It is hard to go to WDW for a few days or even a week without my sweet tea. After a few hours I start having withdrawls.

I found out the ONLY place at WDW that serves sweet tea is at Trails End at Fort Wilderness. Thank goodness I have ADR's for here....

I guess I'm not totally SOL!!!
