Fried chicken at 50's PTC

No, I wasn't thinking it would be anything that extreme. I have seen many reviews where the server used the airplane, feeding method to make you eat just another bite or something similar. Or they harped on the fact that the patron hadn't eaten enough for dessert. When I dine anywhere, I want to eat what I want. I want good service that brings what I order, & leaves what I eat up to me. Being fed "just another bite" wouldn't amuse me. I'm all for having fun, & don't mind it being at my expense at all. I just don't find the precious few meals we get as a family to relax & catch up as the time to deal with harassment (even though it is in fun). I'd love to see the decor, & would like to try the food. Having to deal with the antics just isn't my idea of a good time. I understand some people love it, & that's great. It's just not for me.

Completely understandable, knowing that I would not recommend Prime Time then or Whispering Canyon Cafe either.

I think you are wound a bit too tight to dine at PTC. There are plenty other restaurants on-site that would better suit your needs. If you need a quiet sit down restaurant perhaps you should dine at some of the smaller resort restaurants where you won't be disturbed. Please don't raise a stink and ruin the fun for the rest of us. PTC is a highlight for us and we loved the kidding and playing with the servers. We didn't find it intrusive and the antics are very minor and not intrusive IMHO. During a 90 minute meal you server probably only comes by 4 times for a max of 60 seconds a piece and a server being pleansant and funny for approximately a total of 240 seconds of our 90 meal doesn't seem intrusive or harrassing.

Edited to add: probably should avoid the character dining options as well, don't want the pesky characters disturbing family time. ;-)

We've avoided WCC too. I'm okay with not eating there, because we love AP & they have similar decor. I would like to see the decor in 50's though.

Wow, I didn't realize asking a simple question would result in such a harsh assessment of me. Why would I make a stink about anything? That's not in my nature. It wouldn't have occurred to me that I or anyone else would do that. I think the antics are great for those who want to experience that. I just wish there was a way to dine there & ask to receive conventional service. It always makes me sad when people jump to the wrong conclusion & are rude to someone on here for no reason at all. Stuff like this is the reason I don't post on here as much as I used to. There's no need for sarcasm or rudeness on the boards.

As far as other places to eat at WDW. We live an hour from there. We've eaten at most of the restaurants, which is why I'd like to experience 50's. I want to give them all a try at some point. FWIW, I happen to love character meals.

See now you are contradicting yourself. You mention that you need a quiet family time meal but somehow grown adults dressed in furry costumes who come around and interrupt precious time is somehow okay?

Either you want a peace and quiet or you don't. 50s PTC has a set service ritual and it would be ridiculously confusing to have each waiter remember which tables do and don't want to have fun. Also, please don't suggest that there be a section for "non fun" because that too would be confusing and difficult to plan for. You are obviously in the minority since PTC can fill up with ADRs and people spilling out the door who enjoy the meal.

What if I said I really want to eat at the Japanese pavilion but don't enjoy Japanese food so I think they should bring over a chef from Italy to whip me up some pasta on the flat top grill. I too just want to experience the restaurant but don't like what the restaurant is offering.

You are reading a lot into the posts that isn't there. I never suggested they stop doing the antics. I never suggested they have a conventional dining section. It wouldn't occur to me to ask a restaurant to change, because I didn't like the way it was run. Everything isn't about me. I just said I would like to dine there & be able to eat in peace, possibly by telling them when you check in that you'd rather have conventional service. They could pass that along to the server. Why that invoked such an angry/rude response is beyond me. :confused3 I don't really think asking to not be harassed (even in fun) over not clearing your plate is the same as asking for a personal chef to come over & prepare a totally different cuisine.

We like character meals for breakfast. They get us going & in the mood to hit the parks. If 50's was open for breakfast, we would have already dined there. By dinner, we're ready to wind down & enjoy a nice conversation. I don't see why it's hard to imagine that one could like character meals, but also like quieter, more relaxed meals.

WOW

Makes you sorry you asked a simple question sometimes! Doesn't it?

BTW I don't enjoy the 50's restaurant BUT love the food and eat at the bar.

Why do you have a problem with me pointing out that the poster has contradicted herself. She whines that she doesn't want to eat at PTC because the waitress is harrassing, but furry creatures "harrassing" and playing with guests while they try to eat is welcome and completely different.

The poster mentions she likes character dining in the AM because it gets her pumped for the day, I however, enjoy my morning coffee and paper without furries interrupting my morning planning with family. If I want peace and quiet I don't go to establishments that have "harrassing" characters rather than stomp my foot and demand that the hostess scurry about and tell each of the character handlers that Prncess674 prefers no characters harrassing her and they should remember which of the 100 tables I am sitting at and not to disturb me. :confused3

You not only pointed it out, but you continued to harangue the poster with mal-intent. Seems to me that you get much too much enjoyment out of belittling the poster.

Because it's coming off pretty rude. And I would imagine the character meals are totally different than PTC. It's one thing to have a character coming up to your table, even trouble makers like :tigger: and :stitch: It's quite another to be the focus of attention for not eating your veggies.

That being said, PTC looks like FUN to me! We are going there for the first time in January and I am praying they give my DH and teenage son a hard time. They aren't touching those green veggies with a 10 foot poll and I want some revenge! Maybe they will have to stand in a corner. :lmao:

OP, I would say that PTC is likely something you should skip due to what it is. It just seems like there would be better places to spend your money if you aren't into the full deal. Although, if you really like the 50's theming, then try eating at the bar like the other poster mentioned. I bet you could also speak to the hostess prior and tell them you'd rather watch the antics than be a part of it. It's all in fun and not meant to be mean, so I am sure they would respect your wishes.

ETA: Hmmmm, maybe I will tell the hostess my DH and son need a lesson in table manners.

Act like an a$$ much?

You do realize your being a bigger *}%}<~>~**** that the person you quoted right?

Ironic.

I enjoyed the chicken there, and the interaction with the CM's. The bar is a good way to avoid the CM's or just skipping the PTC will work too :-).

I really love the fried chicken at 50's PTC and so does my husband. Both of our grandmothers grew up in rural Kentucky and the chicken tastes exactly like theirs did. Our mothers have never even been able to make fried chicken that tastes that good and I definitely have never been successful either. Both ladies passed away over 12 years ago and it really makes PTC have a special, sentimental feel for us when we eat the fried chicken. I don't like mustard greens, but my mom loves them. I took her to PTC for the first time last May. She didn't order the chicken, but I gave her my mustard greens. She said they tasted just like her moms did and she told our waiter how much they reminded her of the mustard greens she ate as a child. He brought her out a small plate of mustard greens and she was so pleased, and surprised, that he did that for her.

We were at the PTC for lunch in March and experienced no "interaction" from our server at all. At one point we asked our server why and she us a brief wisecrack in response. We are two adults who don't necessarily seek that kind of server interaction, but don't avoid it either. On the day we were there it was quite busy so our server may have just had her hands full or she may have presumed that we weren't interested in that type of humor. either way we were okay. We went there for the atmosphere and the food.
Now, as far as the original question goes we enjoyed the chicken. It was crunchy and flavorful (4 pieces which equaled a half chicken), but felt that it was way too much food...especially for lunch.

I LOVE the fried chicken. I'm counting down the days until our trip and our visit to 50's PTC. I have a food sensitivity to MSG and most fried chicken has it - the stuff at 50's doesn't!

I quite enjoyed the fried chicken, and I got asked if I would like white or dark meat.

This restaurant was a suprise hit for our family back in October. It was our first visit to PTC and I didn't realize they had the wise-talking CMs till we got there but the waitress really had my DH's ticket. It was great to see her hound him. He thought it was funny but HE is usually the one making the wisecracks and this time HE got served...haha.

The fried chicken was awesome. Crispy and flavorful, moist but not greasy. They asked if we wanted white, dark or a combo. The veggies and desserts were also delicious. We all agreed it would be a new "must-do" for future trips:thumbsup2

My DD and I both ordered the adult chicken meal this past Monday. Our waitress, Aunt Sue, made it clear she could do whatever DD wanted. DD requested all legs and received 4. I asked for white meat and received 2 breasts. It was delicious!
