I had heard that certain medical situations you could get a "free" fridge at the value resorts. Does anyone have any more info on this? If we qualify, I'd love to be able to use this (ds needs certains foods and they need to be refrigerated) but of course, don't want to take advantage.

They will provide a free refrigerator if there is a medical need for one. Generally, they are talking about medication, so the refrigerator doesn't need to be very large.
The type of refrigerator they provide depends on what they have available. You could get a small, dorm type refrigerator or one that is roughly the size of a shoe box.
If he has food that is medically necessary and needs refrigeration, I would certainly mention that.
An alternative that a lot of people have used (other than renting a frig) is to get a cooler (collapsable ones can travel collapsed in your suitcase). Once you get to the resort, you can get a ready supply of ice for free. Have plastic bags to contain the ice or hold the food so it doesn't have contact with the water. Many people have posted that replenishing their ice twice a day keeps things quite cool.

Definitely tell the resort (not reservations) about your needs and that the foods are necessary for the person.

Some things I have read on boards, lol.

One person ships a mini fridge to their resort as they figure the cost is cheaper that way. Dont shoot me but I did read that.

There are stores in the area you could buy a mini fridge. Ship it home or donate it to charity in the area and get a tax write off.

Check to see if someone is staying at the resort the same you are and share the costs.

Yes, if you read the Budget Board there are people there who do a fridge/toaster/coffee pot/microwave swap, etc. for the value resorts which is a great suggestion and I would imagine, a nomimal cost. It still sounds though that if your child MUST have special foods for a medical reason and those foods require refrigeration that you would qualify to get one at no cost. The problem though is, as Sue mentioned, that often the free fridges are very tiny and only large enough to hold medication and thus if that's all they had at the resort when you check in then you might have a challenge.---Kathy

Thanks very much for the info. I will see where we are at by our trip and go from there!
