fridge swap - no problems?

Hello,
I just was wondering about experiences of any Canadians here who have participated in fridge swaps. Has all gone well? I will be doing a fridge swap, and the fridge will be in storage for about a month before I arrive - hopefully it will be easy to retrieve.

I participated last year, and was one of the original paying members. It was great! I took over the swap this year, and even though I'm now scheduled to do POP-without a fridge , I'll keep being the 'organizer' until closer to my trip. [I'm hoping to get back to ASMu] It does require "trust" when you are paying, but I loved having the fridge for my stay. You have to share some reservation info, but it worked well! Go for it!

I've had one wonderful experience, and one disaster. The disaster was just a few weeks ago, no fridge to be found. I got the run-around for 3 days. I honestly think that Disney are making these swaps more difficult so that people just give up and rent their $12 per day fridges, just my opinion.

I joined in on one in Dec. 2006, but it was nowhere to be found. I'm glad others have had a good experience. I would just say... look forward to it, but be aware that stuff happens and it may not arrive. Certainly didn't ruin our holiday, it just would have added some convenience.

I just returned and participated in the ASMu fridge swap. It worked out great, just make sure to keep in contact with the person before and after you to pass on any info. Definetly sign up, it was great to have. With ours someone had included a coffee maker which was nice.

I was involved in one at ASMU a few weeks ago, unfortunately it was nowhere to be found when we checked in. So I thought I would keep checking and it would eventually turn up.....it never did. I had food that spoiled due to the fact that we had been staying offsite for 4 days prior to Disney and we had a fridge there. So don't depend on it. Turns out that the person before me never received it either, I only found it out after I got back. Oh ya, beware, the person after you may send nasty e-mails or post bad stuff about you if they show up there and don't get the fridge like the person after me did.....I was shocked to read the stuff they posted, that I took the fridge home with me, and that I was irresponsible etc....etc......but I guess there are ALL kinds that go to Disney.....not everyone is "nice"

In the worst case scenario, if the fridge was unable to be found for me, could I then pay the $12 a day for a Disney hotel fridge, with no problem? I have groceries being delivered the evening that we arrive.

If they have one available the resort will gladly take your money. I would suggest, if you have a car, that you go out and buy one from wal-mart or some place like that. However, the savings, if any, depends on you length of stay.

You could order a styrofoam cooler as a back-up with your groceries.

Thank you very much for all of your ideas! It does sound like a good idea to order a styrofoam cooler with my grocery order as a backup for the fridge, but I'd prefer to buy a cooler at WDW if the fridge doesn't appear. I won't have a car to go and buy a fridge or cooler, but would I by chance be able to go by bus and buy a cooler on Disney property somewhere? I just think it would be wasteful for me to buy a cooler unless I really need to, since I'm not planning to take one to the parks and wouldn't plan to return home with it. Actually, I suppose I could bring it home if I could put souvenirs or something inside it and bring it as carry-on luggage - any idea if I could? The styrofoam cooler I looked at with Garden Grocer didn't list dimensions; it just says that it holds a 12 pack or 2 gallons of milk.

I had a good experience with an All Star Movie swap but the Pop swap was a flop. Paid for fridge and didn't get one. Could't be found.....

waltdisneymama, I've used the fold flat coolers from Dollarama before. I put it in the bathtub, though, in case it leaked. When I was done with it, I tossed it.

I've been switched to POP for August, and if I can't find a fridge swap for my dates, that's what I'll be doing again.

But I'm hoping that I can get back to ASMu(or even ASMo, since I've never stayed there!) and get to use the fridge that I have booked!

I was supposed to be in a fridge swap at POP Century last fall. Didn't work out - they couldn't find the fridge when I arrived. You takes your chances! (In my case, I was out about $10).

As far as I can remember there is no place on property that you could buy a cooler. I don't know the price of the one that garden grocer has but if you think it's to small order 2.

You can bring a soft sided cooler as a carry on bag as long as it meets the required dimensions. As mentioned the 'foil like' ones from the dollar store are not bad but I wouldn't use that for anything too delicate ie:milk or cold cuts. I totally agree with keeping it in the bath tub. They do sweat and you could have a problem if you soak the carpet.

I have to tell you, I like my milk cold. I can't drink it if it isn't, and the ice kept the milk fine. We did the ice twice a day. Once before we left in the morning, and again when we got back. It really does work!

I liked having the fridge, though, because there is a freezer, and I could take frozen water to the parks. Since we go in August, that was great!

No, I understand what you are saying, but I totally immersed the milk container in the ice. If milk is even just starting to taint, I can tell. The cooler bag really did keep the milk cold.
