Fridge Status Check-in *SEE FIRST POST

If you are asking about Contemporary Resort, then you'll have a fridge. We were notified that all deluxes have them .

We received the same letter today and are scheduled to check into the BLT on 8/31 (2 bedroom & 1 bedroom). Sounds like we should be ok as this is DVC? Kind of odd we got the letter, but hoping there is nothing to worry about.

Port Orleans riverside- staying in building 26 (alligator bayou) aug 15-25th and we have a working fridge :)

I've been lurking on these boards forever but I finally registered just to post this update lol!

We check in on Sunday :) maybe I'm just a rebel, but what would stop one from just plugging in one of the unplugged fridges?? I know they are being replaced because they are supposedly a fire hazard, but how many years were they used with no issues at all? There are thousands of these fridges in the resorts & only one incident...

I'm just curious so please don't accuse me of trying to burn down Disney!!

G

It's a safety issue and is taken very seriously, as it should be. There isn't anything that can be done to stop someone from plugging one in but I think Disney is hoping that with the notice people will use common sense. Also not all resorts have had fridges for years. Values have only had them for about a year now.

You know I completely understand what you mean and I would not personally plug it in if I was there but I do wonder about the safety issue. If WDW was truly that concerned why would they not remove all of the fridges from the rooms. And for the excuse that would produce from them why would they not cut the plug off of each fridge prohibiting it from ever being plugged in? Yes it may take some time to get that done resulting in hours paid but isn't it worth the lives you are possibly saving if it is a safety issue? Let's admit it PP is not the only "rebel" out there.

Just talked with a CM. We are staying at POP Sept 2-11....she said there will be no fridges in ANY of the rooms. I am pretty sure I have seen a few posts about people having them at POP (for medical reasons). Kind of a bummer, but we will be in Disney World so I think we will get over it quickly!!

Just talked to guest services. She said that the Boardwalk fridge conversion is completed.

The letter was probably prepared for mailing a while ago. I wouldn't worry but you could always call the front desk to be sure.

We were told earlier this week that ALL deluxes are completed.

Yeah I got the same letter today which was why I called to check just to be sure. We are staying DVC, so I was confused why we got it in the first place.

Just came back from All Star Music, and as soon as I got to my room I noticed the fridge was bad and had the note on it, and the wire rolled-up. Called the front desk and asked for a working fridge, and said I had medicine that needed to be cooled. One was delivered within 20 minutes. My parents tried 5 minutes after me and couldn't get one. It took them 3 days, but had one for the last 7 we were there. My advice is to just keep calling if you get to your room and notice that your fridge isn't working. People checkout every day all day, so keep trying. Get to know the name(s) of the people at the Front Desk and talk to them as soon as you get there. Tell them it's very important that you find one as soon as one is available. A lot of people don't even bother calling, or continue to call once they get denied one. Stay vigilant, and good luck! Hopefully next summer this will not be an issue anymore.

So I have a couple of questions on this fridge situation. A couple of months ago when this issue first came up I thought people said the All star resorts were safe because those fridge's were put in recently and did not have a problem but it looks like they are replacing those as well now correct? I have a young son who we need a fridge for but not for medical reasons so I would never ask and take one away from someone who really needs one so my thought is it possible to purchase a small mini fridge and use it at the resort or will Disney not be ok with that? :confused3

in other news 29 days until our 10 day trip so I am sure we can get by no matter if we have a fridge or not. :yay:

I don't think Disney would have a problem with you brining a small fridge. If I'm not mistaken there used to be a thread on these boards for people who would share a fridge -- use it then drop it off at the front desk for the next people checking in who would then do the same. I think it was the Fridge Swap. Maybe we should start that again.

True enough.

We have a young son also, and need a fridge for his milk, PediaSure, etc., so my TA called and asked if we would be allowed to bring our own small fridge, and they said that would be no problem at all.
They then offered to put a fridge request on our reservation for infant needs, and said we should have no problem getting a fridge with the request with infant needs. So, you may try calling and asking them to add that request also.
We have 29 days until our trip also! :)

ETA: we're staying at AllStar Sports

Got my no fridge letter today for ASMU check in August 31. I called and was told they had a limited number of refrigerators, but I asked for one for milk for our toddler and baby. CM said she would put the request in, but couldn't promise anything. She was very nice on the phone.:)

I confirmed my room and building request while I had her on the line and told her about a few events we were celebrating on our trip.

The suites were excluded from the recall, but not the other value/All Star rooms.

Same here - we are staying on points at Boardwalk Villas starting 9/11 and received the frig letter on Tuesday. Many DISers here are saying DVC was not affected by frig recall - but then why in the world did we get the letter? They know exactly where we are staying, so why send it out to entire resorts that are not affected? DVC studios could very well have the same frig make & model as other resorts.

Just talked to guest services. She said that the Boardwalk fridge conversion is completed.

Hoping that's true!!
Not sure who to believe anymore....:crazy2:

Just got back from POFQ and our rooms (6th building, 6115, 6116) did not have working refrigerators.
