We are doing a SoCal Road trip and I want to visit DL one day while we are in LA. I have been going back and forth on whether or not to actually go. It's a lot of money for one day which we won't go until around 3-4pm anyway and now our date falls during the D23 Expo. What is the impact of the D23 crowds combined with the lifting of some pass holder restrictions. I really want to go but I don't want to have to deal with huge mobs of people.

ETA: Never mind I am officially taking DL off of my vacation list. :(

I see you've already made your decision, but I wouldn't be too upset about it. I was going to suggest taking it off the list anyway. It would be different if you had the morning to spend in the parks, but if you're not entering until late afternoon then I personally don't think it's worth the money. By that time of day I've already accomplished pretty much everything I want to in the parks, I've gone back for an afternoon break and spend the evening in the parks taking it slow. It's usually too hot and too many crowds to bother trying to rush to rides, not to mention the FastPasses will be running out.

If I had an annual pass, then of course I'd still go just to hang out for the evening, but actually pay for a full price ticket? Definitely not.

My boyfriend is shocked I took it off the list. But they way I figure it, it's a lot of money for less than a day, we have so much in LA, SF, and on the PCH that we want to do that DL is on the bottom of the list. Plus, I think that we will actually plan a trip to DL in the future and not have it as a "day" on this vacation.

Now if a Twilight ticket were available that'd be a whole new ballgame.

Would dinner at DTD be a possibility? If you are able to get a later reservation at Catal or Jazz Kitchen and request an upstairs table, you might be able to watch the fireworks (should be scheduled at 9:30 pm) with dinner. If not, you could still watch the fireworks from other areas of DTD.

I was also going to suggest going to Downtown Disney that evening instead. Go for dinner, do some shopping (especially at World of Disney!)....you’ll get a Disney feeling without going to the parks. If you go to the candy shop, Marceline Confectionery I think it’s called, you can even buy a Mickey ice cream bar!
