I am a freshman in college this fall. I am so afraid!

Same. Different meaning of college but yeah. ;D
I start Sixth Form College in September.

it really isn't that bad after the first day. Im a senior in high school and love looking at all the freshmen on their first day. They are all so afraid. It's like really....i don't bite i wont beat you up if you ask me where your government class is....just don't be stupid and annoying and your fine with me.

Ah, me too. As long as they're not all rude (like this year 7 who gets my bus and had an arguement with a Sixth Former and the bus driver because he was being a right little *DIS-innapropriate word*) then I'm happy to tell them how to get to their next lesson. The new kids get maps in my school now.. we just had to deal with getting lost. xD

thats cool wel im geting kinda nervous cause i just found out that i have to read 4books!! this the summer!! and they r all at least 250 pages each and thats like 1000 pages!!!aaaahhhhhhhhh now i love readingbut i only read what i want not wat people tellme 2 lol

In that case, I'd avoid Honors and AP classes (if your school offers them).
For Honors English, we had an independant summer read, we had to read a book over winter break, and we had an independant spring read. I didn't mind, I loved the books I was given/picked.
For Honors English next year, I have to read and work with a book (I chose East of Eden, it's about 600 pages I think but I'm stoked to read it). And for AP U.S. History, I have to read and work with the first chapter of our AP textbook and read and work with a seperate book.
I'm really excited because I enjoy this kind of thing. I found literary works of art through my Honors English class, and I will with Honors English for next year, I'm sure.

And honestly 1000 pages isn't that bad. I mean, the seventh harry potter book is 759 and most people wouldn't bat an eye if you said you read that over the summer (some people did it in one or two DAYS when it first came out).

I'm sure you'll do fine. Set up a reading schedule, divide the books accordingly and you won't have anything to worry about.

Ah, freshman. I'll be a senior next year!
As long as you don't walk in like you own the place and you're respectful, you'll be fine.
Don't worry about asking for directions, I was totally lost, but high school is SO much better than any other grades.

Along with the earlier post. I'm in honors history and english and we have to read two extra books a semester (1 we got to choose, but it had to be history related) and we had to do a literary analysis paper over it. We also had to go to museums and plays, so if you're not into a little extra work I would skip it. We don't have summer projects, but along with honors, we had to read around 7 books a semester just for school. This year we read The Scarlett Letter (So hard to start, but such a good book), Into the Wild (hated it), Mr. Truman's War (Literally took forever, I think it's around 700 pages, but I didn't like it) and then a history one of our choice. Our honors is usually junior and senior years though.

1000 pages isn't bad. Most books I read now are around 500, anything under 300 seems short now.

well see i go to private school so like all my classes are honors classes and wat i was saying is that those are just my summer reading books but during the school year my friend said who is going into 10th grade and we r going to have the smae teacher she said that we have like book reports and stuff evcery other week and the books are like 300 or 400 pages and he always uses the same curriculum so english is going tp be HARD this year!!!!!!!!!

Maybe it's four years of honours/AP english and pretty much a solid year of writing and reading intensive college, but I'm really used to reading long books-- several at a time, even! My French lit course had a required five books. I read three for International Affairs. Then another two (outside of what I read for my research paper) for my French grammar course. And finally I read three plus about twenty short stories/essays for my freshman writing seminar. And that was just this semester!

I guess it's something you get used to. I mean, yeah, some books you're gonna hate (Scarlett Letter...UGH. Also? Joseph Conrad. His books are SUH-LOW reads).

And I'm still curious as to which books you have to read. Maybe some of us have read them and can tell you what to expect, or even help you if you get stuck.

On my list of favorite classics, #1 is Of Mice and Men and then #2 is TKAM. I loved it so much, we read it sophomore year. I think almost all of the kids in my entire sophomore class loved it even though most didn't want to read it to begin with.

I did really enjoy TKAMB.

Other favourites that I've had to read for school are "Blindess" by José Saramago, "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky, and "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Hey im new 2 the forums. i was reading thru the thread and i just wanted 2 put this out there: i have friends already in high skool (im in 8th grade) and they've said compared 2 high skool, middle skool is like hell. what do u guys think?
