So back to the real world... no more wonderful CM smiles. No more Konk Koolers by the pool. But for all you that are soon to depart on your Disney Cruise adventure, let me tell you how wonderful it was for me and my family!

DH (37), DD (6), DS (4) and myself (34) left for the Disney Wonder on January 28th for our four day cruise. We couldn't wait. We purchased the Land / Sea package and had sprinted thru four parks in 4 days. (Two of which were only 1/2 days!). Needless to say, we were very much looking forward to the relaxing part of the vacation. We opted to be shuttled from the Animal Kingdom which left at 12:45pm. It is an hour and 15 minute ride so we finally arrived at the port at 2pm. I was so jealous to see other people walking around on the boat as we pulled in. I wished that we could have gotten there earlier. The boat was grand. So big and beautiful. So amazing - just beckoning you to come in and begin your magical adventure. I could barely contain myself getting thru Security. We took advantage of the Magical Express feature so all we had were our carry on bags (which I packed with our swim suits and sunscreen as I was unsure when our bags would arrive at the room). We had registered (shown our passports and Disney docs) at the hotel, so we didn't have to stand in the incredibly long lines inside the Terminal. I had registered the kids online, so the check-in for childcare was really fast. They just asked for the password I created online and gave the kids waterproof plastic wristbands and gave me our pager. Then it was on towards the huge Mickey ears and into the ship. They ask your last name and annouce you as you enter while other CM applaud. It really makes you feel like a princess. I was teary the whole time. I had done so much digging on this website and read so many books, I couldn't believe I was finally there.

Since we arrived pretty late, our rooms were already ready for us, so we decided to check them out first. We stayed in a Cat 11 inside stateroom. It wasn't huge, but it worked for us. We were never in the room that much and when I needed to move around, I just had the kids roost on the couch for a bit. The bathroom is definitely a one person room - kind of like a motorcoach size - but very clean and nicely appointed. I had ordered a bucket of treats for the kids and it was waiting for us on the bed. (I had also ordered a six pack of Yuengling which DH loved). (I ordered from Shirley at http://www.theperfectgift.cc/).

We headed out for lunch at Beach Blanket Buffet. They had a huge selectino of food and every CM you encounter asks if you need help, if you need a drink, can I get you anything... on and on. I miss that now. You can leave your trays on the table and they will bus it for you.

We walked by the Mickey pool on our way to the buffet and now its all the kids can think about. So, we let them dip in a bit before dinner. It's a bit chilly out with the wind, but they don't seem to mind. The water was only about a foot deep, so I didn't need the swimmies I brought.

We ate at Triton's the first evening. We had great tablemates from Charlotte, NC- they had a 4yo daughter as well - who was a hoot, I must say! They food was yummy. I would have liked a little more of a crunch on the creme brulee, but other than that, It was really good. Our servers, Inoyman and Carlos were outstanding. Never letting your drink go dry, always folding your napkin for you, making sure you are absolutely happy with your meal. We had the late dinner at 8pm, so DS fell asleep in his chair - it was a long and exciting day. I did find I ate more as I was used to eating at 5:30 / 6pm, so I would grab a little bite around that time then eat a big dinner at 8pm. Oh well.. I'm on a cruise, right?

Back at the cabin, our stateroom host had pulled down the bed from the ceiling and had converted the couch so we had a little twin sized bunk bed for the kids. Our bed was comfy (loved the pillows - dreamy soft) and spacious enough for us. It seemed bigger than a Queen, but smaller than a King.

When unpacking, I found the hanging toiletries bag very useful. I have a four compartment bag from Mary Kay that has a little hanger on the top that I hung over the towel rack in the bathroom. There's not enough room on the shelf for all of my makeup, cleansers, deodorants, medicines (just in case), so it was really helpful. Plus, the compartments are clear, so I could just look and grab what I needed out of it.

More tomorrow... hope you enjoy!

We are Cruising on the Wonder 2/11! Can't wait, and love reading all about it!
I'm Cruising with my 4.5 yr old Son, so I'm really interested how your kids liked everything.
Are there any activities or anything you'd suggest for my DS?
Anything I should be sure not to miss?
How was the weather at Nassau & Castaway Cay? Was the water there warm enough to swim?
Thanks~
Amy

GReat report so far! My kids are the same age as yours and we reserved at cat 11 as well. I'm hoping to get a pull down bunk bed, what room were you in?

Thanks everyone... we truly did have an amazing time!

pierresgirl - We were in room 6555. It was perfect as it was right off of the stairway and elevators at midship.

Gavinsmom- My DS is 4.5 as well. He really enjoyed the kids club but most of all enjoyed the Mickey pool. He loved the curley slide into the pool and after the first few times watching him do it, I became really comfortable with letting him run up out of the pool and up the stairs himself. The slide doesn't land into the pool, but into a flat, safe contained area that slows him down nicely. The weather at Nassau was a bit windy and chilly - I think I recall it being around the 60s. But the day at CC was incredible. Very warm - just wonderful.

I'll write shortly.. DS is having a tantrum with DH... :scared1:

I forgot to mention that they had a Sail-Away party when we left the P.C. dock. It really pumped us all up for the trip - like we weren't already pumped. They played great music, the kids both were shown on the Jumbotron screen - we were all dancing and jumping. The CM come out to teach you dances and mingle into the crowd to get you all reved up. Mickey and other characters come out, too. It's really a blast - don't miss it!

Day two onboard brought us to Nassau in the morning. Seeing the Atlantis hotel on the skyline is quite a sight. It's enormous! We had decided well in advance (mostly due to the fact that we sped thru four parks prior to boarding) that we would remain on the ship at this port. So, we sat quietly aboard and watched the scurry of those that decided to depart. It was pretty chilly due to the wind - around 60 degrees - but it felt much colder. We ate breakfast at the Beach Blanket buffet and our head server was there to help DS scoot into the table. They are all so accomodating and seem to be working all of the time! We set up an appointment to have DD hair braided - not available until the afternoon, so we decided to check the kids into the Oceaneers club while we explore the ship. Check-in was very easy. They look at their bracelet to confirm their name and swipe our card to confirm we are the parents. Then they ask for our password and we're set. The kids loved sliding on the pirate ship slide. There was a tv with a Disney movie always running, a seperate room with about 8 computers with games set up, a video game (playstation or something), a stage for the girls to perform on and lots of organized events planned by the CM. So DH and I left to tour the ship. We started at the spa and one of the CM gave us a tour. It was quiet nice. Very quiet. The gym is right off of the spa looking out over the water. I did bring a workout outfit, but never even broke it out. There were several people there, however, doing the 'good for you thing'. The rainforest room was pretty interesting... by paying an add'l $15 / day, you can sit in warmed chairs and partake in three different sauna rooms (one really hot, one not so hot, and one that offered aromatherapy). Then we headed for the stores to find that they are not open until 6pm (kind of a bummer). They only had two stores - one your typical Disney store and the other also a Disney store, but had upper scale products. From there we checked out the adult bars. They each had their own theme (they were closed in the pre-noon hours, of course). I would have liked to check them out one evening, but I couldn't bring myself to check the kids into childcare at the late hours. I heard that one bar had a great showing for karoke.

We picked up the kiddies and DD had her hair braided. She braved out a 1/2 head of cornrows - it looked great! I even got one little dangly braid done. (We both still have them in... can't take it out for fear of admitting the vacation is really over :sad1: ). From there we jumped into the family pool which I believe was only a few feet deep - the kids didn't need their swimmies there either. And we were in the water with them anyway. It was pretty crowded - I suppose the other stay-on-board families had the same idea we did. The wind still made it pretty chilly, so we didn't stay in for long. We headed back to the room for a quick change and nap. Headed to see Hercules the Muse-ical before dinner. Don't miss that either. It's a top notch - Broadway level show. What a performance. I was laughing so hard from Hades' imps - they were just hilarious!!! They kept singing these popular songs to correspond to whatever was happening - reminded me of a SNL skit. Too funny! The kids couldn't take their eyes off the stage. From there we headed to dinner at Animators Palate. What a performance that was also! The walls change color throughout the evening and the servers change their attire as well. The food was delicious - the wine was superb - desert was scrumptious - no complaints here. At the end of the dinner they show clips from tons of different Disney movies - showing the princess , villians, heros... it was moving.

Back at the room, the beds were turned down and our towel was shaped into a little animal. The kids really enjoyed checking out what animal was left for us each night - not to mention the incredibly yummy chocolates! Our Navigator was there also to let us know what was planned for the next day. I broke out my highlighter and started to plan the next day!

More tomorrow!!! Hope you are enjoying it!

Hi,

I am new to posting here so bear with me please. We are cruising on the 4day Wonder on April 15th. We cruised the Wonder a couple of years ago and LOVED it. This time we are bringing our another family with us. They wanted to do the Dolphin Encounter but it seems that it is already booked. We then wanted to do the Blue Lagoon Beach Day but have discovered that is no longer offered. The family we are traveling with really wanted to a beach day in Nassau, but have already been to Atlantis. Has anyone done the Blackbeard Cay Beach & Stingray Adventure? Can you bypass the stingrays and just play on the beach? Any information would be so very helpful and appreciated!!! Thank you. I enjoy reading all of your posts and getting so much information......

thanks for the report so far...we're on the 4/22 Wonder and cannot wait!!!!

To Gavinsmom...I have a Gavin too..he and his twin sister will be 4 in march...

Dawn414~
Your twins are adorable!
Is your Gavin as full of Energy & Wild as my Gavin?

I'm starting to hear of more and more Gavin's. I think its become more popular.

We are Cruising on the Wonder next Sunday! We are going NUTS waiting these last few days!

Have a GREAT Cruise!
Amy

Thanks Amy...They're both really good (mostly). Gavin is a bit more whiny and needy than his sister, but on the whole, they're really quite good. Have an awesome time on your trip! We've been counting down and watching the Disney Cruise planning video (and WDW planning video too)...As you can see from my 'signature', this is the 'Year' of Disney for us. I'm VERY excited.

Look forward to reading the rest of you awesome report. My DD (6) and myself (single mom) are sailing 5/24/07. Can't wait. Hope I have as much fun as she does.

Day Three:

We woke with excitement knowing we'd be enjoying Castaway Cay today! Couldn't wait to get dressed. I had prepared the beach bag the night before (packed our passports (they didn't end up checking them, only needed the Key to the World card), sunscreen, hats, sunshirts, swimmies (didn't need them either). I did forget to bring along the pails that I had sent to the room, so we bought a few inexpensive ones once we got off the boat. We ate breakfast at Beach Blanket - we've found it's really easy, quick, and we get to sit outside to enjoy the warm sun (finally warm!! :cloud9: ). The view of the island was breathtaking - the water was crystal clear, the beach was so inviting... We pulled pretty close to the Flying Dutchman from POTC movie, too!

We had to wait for the cruise director, Brett, to announce that we could depart from the boat (they had to be cleared first, I believe). We had finished eating and were wandering around the boat taking pictures when he made the announcement. We headed down with our bag towards the 1st floor and expecting long lines we found that we were only the 2nd family off the boat! There were no long lines behind us either! I suppose that everyone was taking their time getting up . I couldn't wait to get to the beach, but I was trying to go slow to enjoy it all. They had beach towels available when you first get off the boat. There were photographers there to take our picture with the huge Disney boat as the background. There were tons of other photo ops on the way to the island as well. You could catch the trolley to the beach, but we didn't want to wait. Plus, there were so many cool things to see on the way - all in all, it was about a 7 minute walk.

We got the kids situated on the beach, DH rented inner tubes for the kids and a raft for me. We found that the first part of the beach filled up first and not too many people ventured over to the farther part of the family beach. So, there was lots of room for the kids to play with not to many people close by.

I caught the trolley over to the Adult only beach to get my cabana massage. I was early so I grabbed a frozen drink and sat in the hammock for a few minutes. There were only a few other adults there and a group of about 8 people farther over doing yoga. The Vista spa sponsors the yoga - it looked really relaxing. I went back over to sit in front of the cabanas to wait and struck up a conversation with one of the CM. (always looking for the one that is unhappy - never found one!). She informed me that the CM that work at the Vista spa also come off the boat to work at the cabanas. She was new - only had been there a month and was from Austria. Very happy to work for Disney. My masseuse was from Canada. She did a great job. It wasn't the cabin I pictured (with wispy white curtains blowing in the wind but open in the front so you could see the ocean). It was more rustic - it had big windows but they were closed. I could still hear the ocean, though. I was super relaxed when she finished - it was the first time I almost fell asleep while getting a massage. I had brought my card, so I paid up and headed out.

I returned via trolley to the beach to find that the kids had made an adorable sand castle - complete with little shell windows and a moat! The kids were braving the cold water. It was pretty bitter at first, but if you move around a bit, you get used to it. I had to try out my raft since DH rented it for me. It was tricky to get onto, but I did it! Shew! (After much squealing, though  ). The water was pretty shallow for a good 10' out, so the kids really didn't need their swimmies. We sat right in front of a water volleyball set, so I just told them they couldn't walk out past the net. The servers walk around on the beach serving drinks, so DH and I enjoyed several of their Konk Koolers (you must try one... it was really yummy - especially if you like coconut / pineapple drinks). DH even loved it - and he's a beer guy.

We headed up to check out the shops and grab some lunch. The Bahamian shops were kind of barren. I would have liked to have seen more of a variety. The Cookies BBQ was incredible, though. The ribs were tender, the Mahi Mahi sandwiches were flavorful and perfectly cooked. We all had soft serve ice cream afterwards - really hit the spot! Right across from Cookies BBQ they had a DJ playing great party / dance music - we all couldn't help but dance! They also played really fun games for the kids.

We decided to put the kids in the Oceaneers club for a bit (they have a dinosaur dig and played water games -had a blast), so I could show DH the adult beach. We actually forgot our childcare pager, so DH had to run back to the boat. Long trip back.. came back all sweaty from running - bless his heart! While I was waiting, I checked out the Disney shop and bought everyone a Castaway Cay t-shirt. Once he returned, we trolleyed over and grabbed a Konk Kooler while DH enjoyed the hammock (I'm starting to sound like a lush...we really didn't drink that much - this is over a whole day event :rolleyes1 ). Anyway.. the sun seemed to go behind some clouds so it really got a bit chilly. There were only about 25 other adults on the beach and it was so spread out it seemed pretty barren. Very quiet. We headed back and got the kids out for some more beach time. We met our tablemates at the beach as their DD 4yo really got along well with my DS 4yo. The kids had contests on who shivered the most. But they truly had a blast... the kids think that was one of the best parts of the trip. There were lots of excursions or activities you could do. Our tablemates snorkeled and saw huge fish and underwater Mickey. Lots of people rented bikes (they had all sizes - even some with training wheels). But, my kids would rather just chill out on the beach all day. They were really bummed to have to leave. They wanted to come back the next day.. me too.

We headed back to the boat around 4pm. Poor DS had sand burn between his legs so DH had to carry him. DD complained that her feet hurt, but I think she was just worn out. I was glad that I had applied and reapplied sunscreen as many people returning were bright red. Also, be sure to check to make sure kids go to potty before heading back to boat. It's a long walk back when you're tired, and you have to stand in the line to check back in. One little girl had to be ran in by a CM for a potty emergency.

We were soooo tired. We showered and decided to eat early at Beach Blanket again - at night it becomes a sit down restaurant. The service was incredible. The food was fantastic. I felt bad because the server we have that follows us around to all of the different assigned restaurants is assigned to get the tip at the end, so I wasn't sure how these people were compensated. I mean, we paid a tip on the drinks we purchased, but there was no way to tip the main server. We headed back to the room for a quick nap and awoke right in time for the Pirate party. It was tough to wake the kids, but once we got there they were ready to party! We all made Pirate T-shirts with iron on decals of POTC movie. DD had Elizabeth, I had Jack Sparrow , DH and DS both had a skeletons. The CM come out and teach dances, the characters come out and do their own dances. Mickey shuttled across the two stacks via a wire. Fireworks from the boat were really a sight - they are right above your heads! Afterwards they have a full buffet dinner and desert. We weren't hungry for dinner, but it looked really yummy. The desert buffet included lots of really amazing looking cakes and pies and cookies. I grabbed some icecream with baked pineapple topping. Yummy! We all sat down to watch POTC on deck on the big screen, but not to long after it started to rain. It was late and we were all tired, anyway. So we headed back to the room for some shut-eye around midnight.

Last day on board ship will come tomorrow... hope you are enjoying my report. Let me know if anyone has any questions! SueNFla - enjoy your trip with DD- and don't feel guilty about putting her in the Oceaneers Club for a bit while you enjoy the boat. My DD (6) really enjoyed the club - she did say she wished they let them have free play more, though. The place they play in is incredible. But, they do offer lots of scheduled events based on their age range. It seems they have to stay together - but they had stuff like fashion shows, drawing lessons, talent shows... she really enjoyed herself.

Will write more tomorrow! Take care!

Hi lweigard, I am enjoying your report very much. Your family did so much more than Glenn and I did. Your report made me want to go to the sailaway party and the pirate party and maybe we will on our next cruise. We have decided we will at least ride the tram around Castaway just to see it all.

We may have passed each other on the ship. Our cabins were even on the same deck. We were in 6076.

I worried that you were so concerned about not tipping at BBB. Still think it was okay. I only tipped Renato because he spent so much time with us and got 2 old folks off to a comfortable beginning for our first cruise. I may have been wrong to tip him and he did hesitate.

I see you haven't posted in a few days. Hope you will continue with your report. It's great to read a report from someone on the same cruise as we were on and from a completely different perspective.

AuntJo - Thanks for checking in with me on the tipping worry I had. I suppose you're right that their own guests would cover them, but I still felt like I was leaving them hanging. I'm so used to tipping when I receive wonderful service- it felt strange not to do it.

Sorry I've been away from the board for a while - the reality of it all hit me and I got stuck in the 'daily grind'. Great news, though, My family and I were asked to join a neighbor friend of mine in Disney the beginning of December! They purchased the Disney timeshare and invited us along. I can't wait to experience it again! Bummed that it won't be on the ship, but that'll happen again, I'm sure!

So, back to my log: Last day on the ship - a full day at sea. I wake feeling like I've really got to make the most of this final day. I feel somber and sad to think we'll be leaving this wonderful place the next day. :sad1: We start out with a Princess signing in the lobby at 8:30am There are already tons of guests waiting with their signature books. But all of the lovely ladies were there: Cinderella, Ariel, Snow White, Aurora and Belle - all in their best gowns. My son was even tickled to see Jack Sparrow upstairs! (I don't think that he was the best Jack I've ever seen, but DS loved it.) Found that we were rushing around a lot. Trying to get their final signatures, then rushing to breakfast (DH & I had reservations for brunch at Palo at 10am). We sat in a sunny spot outside at Beach Blanket - weather was a wonderful 70 degrees! From there we ran the kids upstairs to the Oceaneers club. Race down to Palo and wait in line - shew. But then, the maitre-de quietly comes over to us to find that he has an issue with us having shorts on. Now, we both had put on our collared shirts and we had on clean, non-torn tan shorts. It was Brunch for crying out loud! I knew the dress code for dinner was very fancy, but BRUNCH??!!! I was livid. So, we raced back towards our room and about 1/2 way there we decided we didn't feel like getting all fancied up - so we went to Parrot Cay for breakfast instead. It took me a while to come back down from my 'elevated place'. But breakfast was wonderful at Parrot Cay. We saw our server and he went out of his way to make me a Greek omlet. They have an omlet stand there, but if you want anything other than cheese you have to order thru your server. When he told me I could have anything, I ordered my fav, a Greek. They didn't have Feta there, so they ran over to another restaurant to get it. Now that's customer service! DH and I felt really sea sick there - I'm not sure if it was where the restaurant was, or how open it was inside...but we purchased those all natural drops that you dab behind your ears and it worked immediately. We decided to check out the adult pool to find that people had saved all the seats (and I know they all were not in the pool). So, we squatted on the edge of the pool - still just wonderful. We had a few of the Konk Koolers - I'll truly miss those! We had reservations at the spa at 12:30 for the Exotic Razul room. It was this very romantic looking private room with a steam room, shower, and lots of high end lotions. To be honest, the steam room was just too much for us. It was crazy hot. You're supposed to rub mud all over each other then sit in the steam room to let it detoxify your skin - I just couldn't handle it. Then the mud was crazy hard to get off of your skin in the shower. It ended up just being a laugh fest for us - not the romantic retreat we thought it would be. Oh well... We sat in the rainforest room for a bit. I really enjoyed the body temperature lounge chairs. I could have fallen asleep but DH was bored.

So, we headed back to pick up the kiddies for one last romp in the Mickey pool. It was packed. Every chair was taken, there were kids everywhere. I get nervous when I can't immediately spot my child - and I could tell there were other concerned mothers as well. So, our visit there was short - maybe an hour. DH & I enjoyed a pool side lunch. I loved the pannini sandwich at Goofys Grill - I remember it had pesto in it. It was delish!

The Disney Dreams show was that evening and we didn't want to miss it, so we took the kids back to the room for a shower and a quick nap. DS woke up grumpy but we pressed on... the show was OUTSTANDING. I cried so many times. They truly put on an amazing show - the Cinderella portion sounded and looked just like the original cartoon. The cruise director reported that it had been voted the best cruise show of all the cruise lines - I saw why. I loved it - if you are planning to go on the DCL, you cannot miss it. Both kids were enthralled with it!

Before dinner at Parrot Cay, we browsed thru Shutters to find our pictures from the previous days. We picked only the best as they were $10 per 5x7. The food at PC was wonderful - we had Banana bread, and French toast bread pudding. I was unsure which entree to order so our server brought me both! I ate the fish, but the chicken was sooo yummy, too. We enjoyed our last dinner with our North Carolina dining partners. Their daughter was soo cute and sooo nice to our children. We brought our tipping envelopes with us and passed them along to our servers for the WONDERFUL service we received. They earned every penny and more.

They had a Fairwell party in the lobby. All of the characters were there - even some from the shows! Bring your address book as they do a short autograph signing. My kids got their picture taken with Hades - he was a trip! We stood on the 4th balcony to get a great shot of everyone - they even turn for you to take pictures. I teared up (of course) when they sang the fairwell Mickey song. Stitch was a hoot holding onto the Ariel statue and picking his ears.

Before we left for the Disney show, I packed everything we wouldn't need the next day into suitcases so when we returned, we set them outside for pick up. They take your bags down to the terminal for you - so you don't have to lug them off the ship yourself. Definitely not looking forward to going to sleep as when I wake, the dream will be over ... :sad1: :sad1:

More tomorrow, I promise!

Pierresgirl - I believe it was $80-$90 ( I just threw away all my receipts, so I'm not exactly sure). It wasn't overly expensive - the other treatments were much more than that. I had a cabana massage while at Castaway that was $125. That was well worth it.
